New York Yankees 2012
The Yankees look to bring the Championship back to it's home in the Bronx.
Cashman is back with a new contract, CC was given an extension to his contract and today the Yankees signed Freddy Garcia for $5M 1 year deal. Reports are that the Red Sox offered him a 2 year deal but he wanted to stay in NY. The Yankees front office have stated that the team is pretty much set other than shoring up the back of the rotation.

Or maybe they are too sad since the Red Pigeons dropped them to Buffalo Bills status.

So far the Yankees have not met with CJ Wilson in person. It is reported he is seeking a $100M contract. I think the Yankees have enought $100M contracts that choke in the postseason.

It's has been a very quiet off-season for the Yankees. Sounds like the Yankees are out of the bidding for Japan star pitcher Darvish. The winning bidder to negotiate with him looks to be either the Jays or Rangers with a bid over $50M. Way too much to spend on a player just to get the rights to try and sign him.

So far the Yankees big free agent moves have been bringing back Freddy Garcia and Andruw Jones. The Japanese infielder the Yankees won the bidding right to appears to be staying in Japan. He is a started SS and the best the Yankees can give him is a bench role and they will not meet his $ demands. Good chance that Eric Chavez will be signed for the bench. He has said he will return to the Yankees or retire. On the Garza trade talks the Yankees look to be out of the running. The Cubs want the Yankees 3 top prospects which is not going to happen.

I like the move.
Wish it was king Felix coming back, but this definitely makes them younger in the rotation.
I feel like it was a good trade.
Montero didn't have anywhere to play, and Pineda has a huge upside.
The 4 man race for the last 2 rotation spots will be fun to watch!

Who's gonna catch? Cervelli? Montero has the better bat.
Russel Martin!
Montero wasn't much of a catcher.
If Cervelli isn't the backup, Austin Romine will be.
He is the best "catching" prospect the yanks have.

Who's gonna catch? Cervelli? Montero has the better bat.
Martin, if he stays healthy. Romine if he's not. Cervelli will back up until Gary Sanchez is ready. Yankees are stacked deep with catching talent, Montero has an awesome bat and I think will be a great hitter for Seattle, but he isn't that good behind the plate.
kelmac07

I wonder where Seattle will play Montero?
I don't think they will catch him.
Does he go to the outfield or first base?
I heard during the season they were unhappy with Justin Smoak and wished they traded Lee to the Yanks instead.
I wonder if they will keep Smoak and use Montero to push him?
Either way they still have a long road to catch Texas and now the Angels

I'm not so sure I like this trade, and likely won't be for years. Pitching is fragile, while I can see Montero being a 40/100 guy for the next 15 years. And remember, Posada was once denigrated for his lack of ability behind the dish, yet did better than OK IMHO. True, he was never Pudge, but he was never the Pizza man either.

It's much easier to find a bat than a strong arm. Pineda has a lot of upside to him, personally I think it's a great trade. MArtin, Cervelli, Romine and Garcia are all far better catchers than Montero, the Yanks need the DH spot for some of their aging players, he couldn't play outfield because of his lack of speed, there really was just no good place to play him.

Now that Spring Training is here and the last of the Yankees have been signed to contract here is the opening day roster minus and injuries that may happen during the spring.

The only opening on the 25 man roster is in the bullpen which they have a few different pitchers that will be fighting for that spot. The 5th spot in the rotation will be between Hughes and Garcia with the loser going to the bullpen. The primary DH's will be a platoon between Jones & Ibanez.

For me the most positive thing to come out of spring has been Phil Hughes
I think he's the key to a successful season.
It's time for him to become the pitcher we all hoped he would be.
I expect Nova to take a step back, so Phil needs to stay off the DL, in the rotation, and stay consistent all season long!

Something's going on with Phil behind the scenes I think. He was Phil the Franchise, the guy they wouldn't trade for Johan Santana and then wasn't he injured during a no-hitter and now he's fighting for a rotation spot with Freddy Garcia? I would really like to see him succeed.
I wonder if there is still left over animosity to him from when he and Ian Kennedy and Joba were all acting like punks when they first came up.
Keys for me are Texiera figuring out how to overcome the shift and Swisher staying healthy. I can't wait for the season to start!

Girardi owned by Madden again. What a joke. The team is going to have to work really hard to constantly dig themselves out of the messes he puts them in.
Game one - Jeter leads off with a base hit (of course). Granderson comes up against a shift. If the call is to lay down a bunt to the empty left side everything changes but no - he bounces right into a shift-aided DP.
Let's DH regulars, have your horse IBB a guy in the first inning of the first game and screw Gardner and leave in the wrong reliever because you don't want to burn people out - on day two. It's Day Two.
Fire him.

Well, looks like the starting rotation is no longer a problem. Pineda and Kuroda in the same night? Cue the march (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yys5iioLUNw&feature=related) ;)
OK, you decide . . . did I predict this, or jinx it?

I was at the game that Andy pitched in Trenton
He didn't get tagged....very poor fielding that was scored as a hit vs. an error....that one allowed 2 of the runs.
Another error in the 3rd led to another run.
The Thunders' 3rd baseman made both blunders...he needs a lot of work defensively.

Mo out for the year with torn ACL???....
Mariano Rivera's season -- and perhaps his career -- may have ended during batting practice on Thursday. The initial diagnosis on Rivera's right knee is a torn anterior cruciate ligament, Yankees manager Joe Girardi told reporters after Thursday's game in Kansas City. Rivera is expected to get a second opinion.
"If that's what it is, that's about as bad as it gets," Girardi told reporters.
The 42-year-old had hinted before the season that the 2012 season may be his last.
Rivera injured his right knee during batting practice before Thursday's game at Kauffman Stadium. Rivera was examined by Royals doctor Joe Noland and Yankees trainers before being sent to KU MedWest for an MRI.
Girardi and bullpen coach Mike Harkey picked Rivera up off the ground and carried Rivera to a cart to be taken off the field.
MLB Network showed live footage of Rivera being taken off the field. Rivera was slumped against the center-field fence during Yankees batting practice before Girardi and Harkey helped him to the cart.
YES Network had video footage of Rivera shagging fly balls that showed a ball hit by Jayson Nix that went over Rivera's head and he jumped to try to catch it, but it appeared his right knee buckled and he fell to the ground.
They also showed the reaction of Nix and Alex Rodriguez. Rodriguez, who was behind the batting cage could be seen saying, "Oh, my God. Oh, my God."
Rivera has shagged foul balls throughout his career in the big leagues. Considered one of the team's best athletes, Rivera has often joked that he'd like to come back as a centerfielder after retiring as a pitcher.

UGh, Mo going down is a killer.
While it sucks for the team and the fans, I really feel for Mo.
You got the feeling this was going to be his last year, but he was going to go away on his terms and on top!
It will be sad if this injury ends his career, but will be sadder if he tries to come back and isn't the same. :(
I think Hughes needs to stay in the rotation.
If Tex and Cano don't start hitting, might as well call this a rebuilding year and it won't matter who's pitching or closing for that matter.
In happier news,
did anyone catch AJ Burnett's line from the other night?

I feel terrible for Mo. Honestly one of the best guys in sports. I've had the opportunity to meet him once and he was just the nicest guy. I do hope he can come back from this, because no player deserves to go out like that, specifically one of his caliber.
That being said, if a Met closer tore his ACL shagging fly balls, the jokes made at his expense would be limitless. So while I do feel terrible for Mo, I have absolutely zero sympathy for Yankee fans.

Yes, Yankee fans did Boo Rivera.

Rivera's first 2 save opportunities, he blew to the Sox.
That's when he was booed.
While I don't agree with that, I am willing to say the fans had a little bit of pent up frustration, and the boos weren't 100% directed at him.

How was Bernie dissed? I had to sit through him playing take me out to the ballgame twice in the outfield on opening day.

You have to go by the performance of both pitchers from last year and this year so far. Robertson was the best reliever in baseball last year and this year until the blown save. I think what you will end up seeing is both guys get save opportunities. Keep them rotating and the arms fresh since they both like to throw a lot of pitches.

A-rod, is not popular, ask him if he cares.

CC to the DL, and now Andy's out 6 weeks with a broken ankle.
Welcome back Freddy Garcia! :fp2
what a bad day. Andy convinced Joe and Donahue to give him a chance and then almost fell down on the next pitch. I'm just hoping for a .500 record over the next 40 games to be honest.

Injuries are never good, but at the very least it happened before the trading deadline, and now you can go get Matt Garza.

Awfully grim outlook to have considering they have the best record in baseball. :sh
The Yanks don't need dominant starting pitching to win.
They just need their starters to keep them in the game until they can get into the other team's pen. :2

I don't think we will need him.
CC is only missing 2 starts and was shut down as a precaution.
Honestly, as it stands now, I don't think anyone in the East will catch them.
Tampa will probably make a run, but they don't have the sticks to keep up.
Toronto is decimated with injuries, and Baltimore just isn't ready yet.
Boston still has a long way to go, I think trading Youk is the beginning of a complete overhaul, I think they will be sellers.

I wouldn't rule Boston out. They are going to get Ellsbury back in about a month, Crawford in a couple weeks. If A. Gonz can get going they are going to have a scary lineup.

I agree, just when it looked like a lock, something goes haywire.
Never seen so many pitching snafus in my life.
The Sox are not done yet, we just havnt been cooperating, they`ve been winning lately, and when they get the other 2/3 of the outfield back.

All that being said the only way the Yankees don't win the east is they totally just stop hitting homeruns, or the pitching completely falls off.

Our pitching has been amazing, keeping us in it till the bats wake up in some inning.
Pitching is key, watch.

The Red Sux are not done yet, and they still are
missing Justin and now Poppy.
But they looked great yesterday, with Ells and Craws
back in the outfield and reaching for hits.
Still a valid threat imo.

Kick this back up..... I'd liek to see some stability in the lineup - is balancing lefty-righties really that important? How much more data do you need before putting Curtis in a different spot?

Curtis GranderK is really killing things lately. It is time for K-Long to work with him on strike zone recognition.

It's August, and they couldn't hit Price or Verlander. Not good at all in the playoffs when you can't take advantage of small ball situations.

Yeah, you're right. Nobody gets tired in the dog days of August, and everybody else seems to hammer those two journeymen all over the ballpark.

Is there a Bravo Smiley?
All this talk about the Yanks not being able to win with the long ball is silly!
First off, none of the Rotations of the playoff contenders is deep this year!
They may have an ace, but after that, they all get shaky.
The two teams everyone is worried about, Detroit and the Angels, haven't been able to get out of their own way this year.
Why? Because their pitching isn't as good as it has been.
People forget, both those teams are now Slugging teams.
The small ball Angels are gone!!!
And Detroit didn't bring Prince Fielder in to bunt!
Typically, the're going to have to out slug the Yanks to win!
Also, remember this year the wildcards play a 1 game playoff, to see who gets in.
Which means if it's those two teams, one will be eliminated.
That also means, If its one of those teams and the Orioles, well its a 1 game playoff, anything can happen!!
Just relax, you are all but guaranteed October baseball!!!
How many Met fans would give their left nut to say that?
