Been thinking about this for a while.

Consumer vs maker of these types of beverages so thinking automatic is the way for me to go.

Any reason not to go with this one?

I would get the one Allan had in KC, it reads you the paper and gives you an HJ too. ;)

Pricey.

BUT. A friend has one and it makes a very good drink. If you're not going to bury yourself in the details of grind size, tamp pressure and all the analosity that goes along with the manual side of espresso based drinks, this is an excellent fully automatic rig Dave:banger

Here is a machine that users of super auto have talked very highly of http://www.chriscoffee.com/products/home/espresso/monzasuperauto
Chris' is a great place to do business with and they stand behind their machines, it is worth a call to talk to Chris or Mary and see what they have to say.

The Jura machine are considered disposable, I have seen many post that they are on their third machine in 6 years.

Plus you'd have a hometown brother that could pick up parts for you;)

What do people think of Miele brand machines? One of my distributors carries them, and iirc retail for about 2500.

Totally shooting from the hip, as I never researched them. Just had a cup or 2 every time I go there, and it's always excellent.

Ok so which one is it???

I looked at the one Mr. Nee bought.

Breville BES860XL Barista Express

I Almost got it before he did, but didn't pull the trigger...don't ask....then saw it in action because Tristan was making them as fast as he could.

I still don't know it is a lot of money. My oldie made about 5 oz of expresso that I split between 2 cup with a little foam each and every day ..good stuff.

Mr. Nee swears his can make that much but I am kinda getting used to drinking plain coffee :sh

Jack has the Z5, I've always enjoyed the cups I've had from it (numerous!) & he's had it for quite some time now with no problems to my knowledge. Best of luck with yours & enjoy!

The trick is finding a good blend of local fresh roasted coffee. I have heard Maxwell House comes up short. As always, anyone with enough dough to burn a wet mule should order bi-monthly from UncleBeanz or Intelligensia.

I have also had a cup or two from Jacks place. Liked it... You should be pleased with your Jura. If I had not gotten the Nuova Simonelli Microbar this was going to be what I went with as well.

Stay wired my friend ;o)

I'd say you have many years of great coffee in your future.

To echo Moo's statement, the quality of the beans will be the deciding factor.

I have a friend with the same machine and it really does a nice job and I am always impressed with the ease in which he entertains guests with espresso that is quite nice.

I'm more of a hands on guy during the whole process, but realize in an office setting, that's not always practical.

Congratulations and all the best.

So fast forward a couple months...

Been loving this thing. It makes great beverages. Using the term beverages is appropriate because well... there are so many varieties of things you can expore.

My current favorite is:

Macciatto:

I put some sugar free syrup - Salted Caramel is current fav and 3 splendas into my cup.

Using the button I have programmed -

Machine foams milk into the cup for 16 seconds.
Have a 14 second pause programmed to let some milk settle out a bit.

Then it adds 4 oz of coffee.

I have been "topping" with a 2 oz expresso lately... requires pushing another button but seems to fit perfectly what I like.

You end up with this 4 layer cool looking beverage in the glass cup. The foam has some flavor from the syrup and Dave is a happily caffinated camper.

Sometimes I add a design on the foam using sugar free chocolate syrup. :D

I tried and failed miserably in latte art.
Some of the stuff the baristas do would really wow my occasional guests, but after many attempts only managed to make a mess on the counter.

(looks easy here, but I can't seem to nail it down..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6EuEygqB08 )

Thanks for the update and many happy macciatto's!

Where are you getting your beans, Dave? Are you only using espresso blends or are you mixing it up with all kinds?
