OK, basic idea of this thread is if you end up watching an offbeat movie not in the limelight that you think others will enjoy. Post the name, a imdb link maybe and quick overview and why you think others will like it.

I will start:

Movie: Kenny
IMDB Links: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0822389/
Brief Overview: Australian movie about a port-a-pottie technician/salesman. If you enjoy English humor, you will love this. If you dont understand the English the English speak and have no clue on some basic aussie/english/new zealand/south african slang, maybe skip it, but all in all, I think everyone would enjoy this. This movie had me :r

Being There

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078841/

In the right mood a truly funny movie. Ironic, metaphoric, sweet and silly.

Being There is a 1979 film directed by Hal Ashby, adapted from the 1971 novel written by Jerzy Kosiński. The film stars Peter Sellers, Shirley MacLaine, Melvyn Douglas, Jack Warden, Richard A. Dysart and Richard Basehart. Douglas won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor and Sellers was nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role. This was the last Peter Sellers film to be released while he was alive.

The screenplay was coauthored by Kosinski and the award winning screenwriter Robert C. Jones, winning the 1981 British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Film) Best Screenplay Award and the 1980 Writers Guild of America Award (Screen) for Best Comedy Adapted from Another Medium. It was also nominated for the 1980 Golden Globe Award for Best Screenplay.

I have two:

Windy City Heat

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0383053/

A slow show business want-a-be is given the lead role in a Bruce Willis type action movie. Very funny, but kind of sad, however the subject Perry, was well paid to be in this film.

Idiocracy

Most definitely. I caught this film the first time by accident on the Independent Film Channel while flipping channels several years ago. Since then, I've rented this film twice. I don't mind seeing it again. My kind of strangeness.....:D

In the documentary category: Vernon, Florida directed by Errol Morris

Summary from errolmorris.com:

"Vernon, Florida" is an odd-ball survey of the inhabitants of a remote swamp-town in the Florida panhandle. Henry Shipes, Albert Bitterling, Roscoe Collins and others discuss turkey-hunting, gator-grunting and the meaning of life. This second effort by Errol Morris, originally titled "Nub City," was about the inhabitants of a small Florida town who lop off their limbs for insurance money ("They literally became a fraction of themselves to become whole financially," Morris commented.) but had to be retooled when his subjects threatened to murder him. Forced to come up with a new concept Morris created "Vernon, Florida" (1981) about the eccentric residents of a Southern swamp town.

It makes no difference if your really into westerns or not, this is a great movie, very entertaining, although, not well known!

Purgatory

Between somewhere and nowhere in the untamed West is the small town of Refuge. There, neither the sheriff nor his deputy carry a sidearm. There's no jail either, because shooting, carousing and bad blood are not in the town's character. What folks live there? Wild Bill Hickok. Doc Holiday. Jesse James. Billy the Kid. All long dead. All mysteriously given a chance to undo their violent pasts in Purgatory. All put to a stern test when Blackjack and his ornery gang ride into town. Actors: Peter Stormare, Donnie Wahlberg, Eric Roberts, Randy Quaid, Sam Shepard.

Director Uli Edel helmed this tale of the Old West in 1999. Set in a town called Refuge, Wild Bill Hickok (Sam Shepard), Doc Holliday (Randy Quaid), and Jesse James (J.D. Souther) are among the inhabitants, even though they've long since passed away. The town is actually Purgatory, a middle ground for reckless outlaws who must prove themselves to be worthy of a place in Heaven, or face an eternity rotting in the pit of Hell. No one who resides in Refuge is allowed to carry a gun, nor is there any jail, or even swearing. So when a wild bunch of desperadoes turn up, led by Blackjack Britton (Eric Roberts), they are surprised at what they find. Britton and his men soon realize they are among some illustrious company, and set about taking the town for their own. The TNT channel originally aired this compelling sci-fi western that saddles up its horse and rides out of town to a satisfyingly explosive conclusion.

http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMTI2OTc1NDgzNl5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwMzg2MTIyMQ@@._ V1._SX97_SY140_.jpg

An odd little Japanese movie. It's a "foodie" movie in that, at the center of the major plotline, it has to do with a Noodle Shop. You could draw parallels to it being kind of a Japanese Western. (No cowboys, though.)

Here's a more standard description:
In this humorous paean to the joys of food, the main story is about trucker Goro who rides into town like a modern Shane to help Tampopo set up the perfect fast-food noodle restaurant. Woven into this main story are a number of smaller stories about the importance of food, ranging from a gangster who mixes hot sex with food to an old lady terrorizing a shopkeeper by compulsive squeezing of his wares.

Jacob's Ladder

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0099871/

One freaky movie starrring Tim Robbin's as a former Vietnam Vet who has trouble seperating what's reality and what's hallucination. One that must be watched more than once to truly appreciate.

Into the Wild

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0758758/

Sean Penn directed and wrote the screenplay for this biographical movie about Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch) about a guy who after graduating from college, gives away his entire savings account and hitchikes to Alaska to live only on his whits and the land. And in the process he meets many people and with that has many different life experiences. This movie explores what happens when man abandons his need for money and possessions and lives off what the land provides, which shows all of us how easy life really is in these modern times. A must see iimho.

Snatch

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0208092/

Directed by Guy Ritchie and with an all star cast that includes such notible actors as Brad Pitt, Jason Statham, Benicio Del Toro and Dennis Farina. This movie ties many stories into one and is very humorous and quirky, and incluse everthing from Boxers, bookmakers, Russian mobsters and many others all trying to track down a stolen diamond. Another very good off beat movie and a must watch.

Bubba Ho-Tep http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0281686/

Starring Bruce Campbell as Elvis Presley living in a nursing home, and Ossie Davis as John F. Kennedy, who says he was patched up after the assassination, dyed black and abandoned by Lyndon Johnson. Elvis and JFK have to fight against an Egyptian mummy who sucks the souls out of the other senior citizens in the home. Awesome movie.

Time to bump this thread. Bubba Ho-tep is awesome. I saw that movie in an indie film house in Portland Oregon. The entire room was into it, it was great. Also, In Bruges is VERY funny too, recommend that one. I have all the movies listed here I have not seen in my blockbuster queue. Looking forward to them.

I am going to chuck Death at a Funeral into the mix. Great british comedy. The one liners and situations in this film are rediculous!

Bigger, Faster, Stronger
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1151309/
In America, we define ourselves in the superlative: we are the biggest, strongest, fastest country in the world. Is it any wonder that so many of our heroes are on performance enhancing drugs? Director Christopher Bell explores America's win-at-all-cost culture by examining how his two brothers became members of the steroid-subculture in an effort to realize their American dream

Here are two of my favorite foreign films that I think everyone should watch:

Battle Royale
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266308/

Japanese film where every year, a high school class is randomly chosen to spend three days on a remote isolated island. There they must fight and kill each other off until only one student is left, who is then let free to go back home. The Battle Royale act was passed in Japan after a non stop rise in teenage defiance towards adults and organized society.

Oldboy
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0364569/

South Korean film in which a man is randomly kidnapped and placed in a room with nothing but a television and pad of paper. After 15 years of imprisonment, he is let go and is given 5 days to figure out who imprisoned him and why. This is part 2 of Chan-wook Park's loosely based revenge trilogy.

Oldboy is EXCELLENT. The ending is, well, it takes a lot to make me feel uncomfortable but this movie achieved it. One more of those movies which will make you feel uneasy is Man Botes Dog. This is ONLY for those with very very very thick skin. This is one of the most disturbing movies ever made:

Man bites dog ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103905/ )

This movie is about a documentary crew following a serial killer/rapist. It is a french film. I watched it and the violence of it captivated me it was so over the top. I know people who have felt ill after watching it. So weigh up your tolerance and consider renting this.
