Anybody else anticipating the Skyrim release in November? I haven't played the other Elder Scrolls games, but watched a trailer for this one and it looks pretty amazing. I'm not much of a "gamer", but got hooked on the RPG's after Fallout 3. Hopefully this one has similar gameplay to Fallout.

Elder Scrolls is a DEEP DEEP game and I think Skyrim will be as well. I have heard that it could take 150+ hours to beat the game and see EVERYTHING in it.

I am looking forward to it, I was not really a fan of the Elder Scrol series, but I am liking the way this looks.

I used to love RPG games, but it was too much of a time sinc for me. I need to work on the house and other things before I can play games.

Unless I lose my job...that gave me plenty of time to play games then.

I'll be playing this for sure. I doubt 150+ hours though.

I beat oblivion in like ~35-45 I believe. I hope there is much less redundancy and a better difficulty adjustment though.

Better combat would be nice.

I think I had about 60 hours into Oblivion and saw just about everything. This is one of the games I have a deposit on... sadly they all come out around the same time

I hear ya man. I am finishing my last semester of University, so I might have to wait to December before I can actually play it. However, nothing like an RPG to aid in procrastination. Not that I need any help with that or anything. :D

I spent a what seemed like a lifetime playing and modding Morrowind and Oblivion. I see no reason to change that now. Bring on Skyrim! It is after all one of the reasons I bought this laptop.

I never could really get into Oblivion. Then again - I had to have gone to the wrong place. I started up and ended up somewhere that I got killed over and over.

I'll probably pick up Skyrim anyway.

With Oblivion I discovered late that leveling up my Major class also leveled up the monsters. I got pretty far in and had my arse handed to me. Some reward for leveling up. I checked out the Gamespot primer and learned that I should make my minor class what I wanted my major class to be, and seldom level up the skills from my major class. I redid everything this way and ended up with a light armor wearing, invisible character. I haven't finished since.

Skyrim is already ordered and payed for. IDK when I'll play it, though.

I put over 200 hours into Oblivion. Once I leveled up I had no problem killing pretty much anything. Sneak mode and hit them with an arrow. Pretty much dropped anything.

Looking forward to Skyrim, but probably be a year or two before I'll play it. Need a new computer to run it. :(

If you already have/played Oblivion, here's a mod game that I actually enjoyed better than Oblivion. Not as much content but still got almost a hundred hours in. All the voice acting is in German but the subtitles and menus are all in English. HIGHLY recommend, especially since it's free. :D http://nehrim.wikia.com/wiki/Nehrim_Wiki

Strange you guys had a problem with Oblivion, I beat the game with a level 52 Redguard and had zero problems.

I just stacked all the best gear I could, did a lot of gates and I believe I had around 900-1000 life.

There was a trick, save right before you finish a gate, and you can load till you get the exact item you want :D

http://www.gamespot.com/features/6147085/the-elder-scrolls-iv-oblivion-game-guide/index.html I believe in the "leveling up" portion of this guide it talks about the problem. I don't consult guides unless I need to or something just gets redundant. I did most of the side quests before finishing the main quests. When I returned to the main quest toward the end everything was ridiculously more difficult. I'm glad you didn't find any issues with it, but apparently Gamespot thinks there were.

Playing an assassin I just got squashed with reckless abandon. After a while it was just too deep and got boring. Fallout 3 was almost too big, New Vegas I just dropped after 10 hours or so.

I used to be a die-hard one sitting 24 hour RPGer. Just can't work up the energy.

So yeah, I'm looking forward to Skyrim :-)

What?

This one and the new Assassin's Creed will be awesome.

I have it already paid for with trade in credit at Game Stop. I'm leaning toward not picking it up, though, because I won't have time to play it for at least a month. By then I could just buy a used copy. I got the call earlier about arriving at 10PM and leaving with the game at midnight. Very tempting...

Going to wait on buying this game, bought Oblivion when it was GOTY with all the expansions. By then all the little bugs were fixed.

Plus, I don't want to spend the thousand or so dollars to upgrade my mid quarter 2010 rig.

I'm going to wait at least a couple months for bug-fixes, too. Besides, still more to do in Oblivion, in the meantime.

It'll probably be a good year before we see bargain-bin pricing on this one, though.

Shouldn't cost thousands, I upgraded at almost that EXACT same time. I only need a new video card which will be $250-$700 depends on what I go with. I'll probably spend $350-$400 (middle of the range) and that should be good for 2-3 years (not playing everything on MAX).

Great game. In 7 hours of playing I've only run into one bug - it crashed on me. I have only done a couple of quests. I've spent most of that time exploring and crawling through dungeons. Gorgeous game and the controls are spot on. :tu

EDIT: I am playing on High on my computer.

That card SLI'd will run it on high. Two of them in tandem :)

Really - the 16 gigs is over kill on ram. 8 gigs would be more than enough. But I figure if something is worth doing it is worth overdoing.

Interesting, I was told (by some stupid site I will no longer trust) that I couldn't play it.

I installed it, it told me I could indeed play it on medium quality. Fine by me for now.

WOW are the graphics stunning. I might have problems later in the game, who knows but I'll look into snagging a pair of those video cards or maybe some other one(s) sometime soon.

Thanks though :tu

DAMMIT! I did what I always do and outsmarted myself yet again.

I trained up sneak early and gimped myself. I think I can recover if I can figure out how to train up archery and 1h just a little more, to hit a couple of those perks.

quick question though: Any of you guys have trouble with the "Find the redguard woman" quest line? Without spoiling anything: The pickpocketed jail cell key won't open the cell. I'm stumped.

I was just noodling around after the first couple main quests (got to High Hrothgar and that's about it.) I did the Companions line up to... a point, then stopped. Then I started "Walkin da erf" (in the immortal words of Jules Winfield) and came across the mage's guild. Their quest line is just awesome. So I sorta got sucked in to that.

I... I don't think I have any depth perception left.

(figured I'd move Skyrim convo from the Games thread.)

My biggest problem now is really cash for materials. A fully loaded loot run at L26/27 (or wherever I am) generally only brings in a thou or two at most, and that's only if I spend time agonizing about what to drop. It kills me to leave goodies behind. But I really don't want to console mode my encumberance limits.

Alchemy has been good to me as far as cash goes. Components weigh 0.1 generally and potions sell pretty good. But I just pick them up as I go. Wandering around in the woods looking for unmolested bushes would make me tear my eyes out.

4WheelVFR

I make money by smithing. I'm a level 81 or so smith now. Any weapons or armor that I loot, I improve before selling. I've got my cash up to 12k.....which isn't a lot, but not bad.

Last night I noodled around a bit and found that iron daggers enchanted with drain health sold for several hundred gold. So I made... I dunno 40-50 of them.

Now my biggest concern is running out of soul gems.

So, what level and how many hours is everyone at? I'm at level 42 with my smithing up to 100. I have no idea how many hours of gameplay.....way too many. Also, the lag on the PS3 is annoying. Hoping the update next week helps that issue.

Bill86

I went ahead and created a new character. Both of mine are 100 smithing

Level 37 Orc Sword/Shield
Level 33 Khajiit Sneak/Bow, working on daggers soon but I haven't found a need for them yet.

Really digging the sneaky Khajiit. I never die. Arrows do HUGE damage.

madwilliamflint
11-26-2011, 07:00 AM
Early 30s, Stealth/Bow/1H Imperial.

Stealth pinned, lock picking and pickpocketing in the 50s (but those are a headache to level.)

Smithing I think is in the 70s someplace. Enchantment and Alchemy are finally starting to come up pretty quickly.

I really want to crank up the magic skills but I'll never have enough perk points to do the uber build (if only I knew what level cap really was) so I'll probably build another toon.

Do the Dark Brotherhood quests, Theives guild. Many caves in that line make you TONS of gold.

My Khajiit has 40,000 gold and a house in White Run with all the furnishings. I find that no matter how much I spend I keep gaining gold. Spent 8,000 last level training.

Thieves guild was way too easy to go through. Just started on the Dark Brotherhood quests and it may be a better challenge for me, since I'm inclined towards heavy armor and 2 handed weapons......although my sneak, lockpick, and archery are pretty good too.
I will say that I liked the quest lines from the previous two games better. I miss the fighters and mages guilds, and they definitely took more time and effort to master. I've already effed up the college quests because the guy I need to talk to is locked in a ruin with no way to get to him lol.

Yup, that's the sort of thing that's hurting this game for me. No game is perfect though and this one is still awesome.

I hit level 48 last night. I finally realized that you unlock the new shouts by actually spending the souls. I thought that they unlocked when you hit a certain # automagically (it says something like "Renew: 30" - turns out that is 30 SECONDS until you can use it again. I'm a moron.). Been having lots of fun with my new found abilities :)

I'm at 96 archery, maxed out sneak, maxed out pickpocket, maxed out smithing, 85 light armor, and I just hit the 100,000 gold achievement.

I play this game way too much. :banger

ya know I'm actually having trouble raising weapon and armor skills. 1h, Archery and Light armor are all in the mid-late 50s.

Things just keep dying too fast :p

After getting trounced by a couple giants early on (right outside Whiterun) I've been avoiding them like the plague. Last night I finally decided to knock off a couple of the giant bounty tasks I had. Snuck up, THWAP, dead. Orcish dagger with flame dmg on it. I just stood there and blinked a couple times, then spent an hour or so giant hunting.

Ok, it was time. I backed up my save game directory and started the Imperial Legion line. So far so good. But the AI of having a 'team' drives me nuts. Can't swing around a pair of swords very well with companions yelling at me to watch it.

Went through the Imperial questline. Fun stuff, but like I think we've found out about all the faction quests, it was a little too easy. Now that it's done, I'm surprised how little it really affects the world. I suppose it makes sense though.

In the meantime I tagged smithing 100, so I've got my dragon scale armor and have made a couple daedric daggers (with daedra hearts courtesy of the Mehrune's Razor line. Where do I get more?)

Now I just need to get enchanting pinned so I can double-enchant stuff.

I am not a big gamer, especially RPG's, but I wanted to get a new game and this one was calling my name. I haven't played any of the other Elder Scrolls games, to compare, but I really love this game. Got it after the first of the year, believe I'm at level 8-9 now, and really love playing it. I'm about to install it and check it out. We'll see.

I've been playing Skyrim on my PS3 since Christmas. This is my first RPG (I usually play FPS') and I'm really impressed. Gotta like the unbound environment! I've already completed the main quest line, College of Winterhold, Dark Brotherhood, Companion and most of the Thieves Guild (I don't want to give up my skeleton key yet :)) I guess I'll have to pick a side in the civil war now. My save file is over 11MB and am starting to have frame rate issues. I hope they patch it soon. Besides that, solid game!

First RPG!?! Boy are you spoiled :-) I liked Imperial for the civil war. Ulfric's a racist ass.

See I never used the Skeleton Key.

I dumped my MMOs last weekend and went back to skyrim to start a pure mage. it's.. TOUGH, but fun :). I'm still not sure why I shouldn't be using heavy armor as a mage, once I can enchant it with all those juicy robe enchantments and all.

I was leaning toward the Storm Cloaks until I started down that line and realized Ulfric's an a-hole. Definitely reconsidering now.

I'm playing as a Nord right now. Going the pure mage route sounds fun for a second go around.

I was tempted to make the second roll a full heavy armor 2-hander. But I realized that with my primary at L54, I can just do that on the original toon.

I've tended towards Imperials. Just like the look of 'em the most. I figure on the pure mage the trick is going to be Conjuration/Alchemy/Enchanting. Some of those Conj perks look juicy.

I got a pure mage at level 17....it's rough. You run out of magicka VERY quickly.

I'll make a heavy armor two hander next for sure. Still rolling with the Khajit at level 53. Sneak and bow is easily the best combo in Skyrim. I planned for back up daggers but never used them. Most everything is quickly dispatched with the bow. Dragons take maybe 6-8 arrows. Should be able to cut that in half by level 60-65.

See that's cool. I do an awful lot of one-shot dagger kills. With the 2x backstab gloves that makes for a 30x backstab with daggers, which is phenomenal. Now that I've got enchant at 100 and the dual-enchant perk I've got a pair of Daedrics, one with health stealing and fire, and the other with soul trapping and frost. If you can get close, it's devestating.

I noodled around with 2h a bit and man do you blow through stamina fast. It's crazy.

I saw that as well, although my bow Khajiit is like 700+ life / a mere 190 Stamina, 2 attacks is all I get with a 2 hander. Seems like that build would be rough.

I enchanted all my gear with +% bow damage. Sneak attack 3x puts me at about 1K per shot.
