Do we have any players here?
I am in my second year playing. I played all 4 season last year, Summer/Spring, Fall, Holiday and Winter! Loved them all
I am running a coed for the first time. Some how I always get roped into running the team.
Team name has always been, The Sons of Pitches
I wish I could. We have a department team. But my knees wont allow it!!!

Playing for my command, we are 4-0 right now. It's a lot more fun than I had expected and is a team builder at work. Now if I could only get out of my hitting slump:D

I tried to play with co-workers in a tourney against other local companies. I had never ever played and couldn't hang. Some were seasoned softball league players.
It was slow pitch softball and my batting was weak. I had the bad habit of getting anxious seeing the ball hang in the air so long, I would swing too early.
I had fun trying out though and would like to practice and try again next year.

Hitting was the hardest adjustment for me. I was 8 for 9, the last two games I have gone 0 for 4 with 3 walks.
I was on a hitting streak.. now, I fear I am in the slump.
This coed team.. we are 0-5 with a 9 game regular season.. I say we are practicing for the playoffs. All teams make the playoffs. That is when we will click and take it ALL!!

Played for about 12 years, but gave it up 5 years ago. 10 years was with a mens league with some solid hitters. I agree with Alan, that high-hanging pitch is my downfall - I couldn't wait to hit it. The last 2 years was coed with folks here at work. It was most for funsies and got me out of the house on Sunday afternoons. Funny how having kids helps fill your days back up. I play basketball at lunch on Tuesdays now for about an hour. Several games of full court is all the knee-pounding exercise I can stand. I'm lucky to make it to 10 p.m. on Tuesday nights before I fall out.

MWR GTMO has a ton of sports leagues available. I played Kickball when I first got here. Just stayed on the team (Juice Box) for the softball season. Unfortunately in the beginning of the season I messed myself up on a dive and had to sit out. I am still on the team and I think the next season is going to start next month.

I have been playing for the last 10 years. I am on two leagues in the summer and two during the fall. I mostly play first, second and left center. I am just happy to be out playing so I will play anywhere. So far, one league we are 4-1 and the other one we are 2-2. Got a double header tomorrow night.

I gave up playing full time three seasons ago, but will fill in on a buddy's team from time to time if he's in a bind. Played on two highly competitive traveling teams (not at the same time; in different points in my life) and played in several national tournaments. Used to love it, but got burnt out on it. That, and when ASA kept changing their bat guidelines every year it seemed to make your season old bat, "illegal", it got stupidly expensive replacing now worthless equipment.

Our city has a wooden bat league, but it's insanely expensive. $450 for ten games, per player. Ouch. I played one year because I missed it so much, but I can't justify paying $45 a game.

One league is $450 for like 10 weeks and playoffs and my other league is $750 per team for like 12 weeks and playoffs. We tend to get sponsors for our teams so we play for free.

The field isn't bad by any stretch, but it's far from a cathedral. When the closest competition is over an hour away, I guess you can name your own price. People pay it (or more specifically teams get sponsors who pay the fees) so it's maintainable. Huge cash cow for the city's parks & recreation department.

As an aside, I HATE having to pay entrance fees to get into a park when I've already paid fees to play in the league. It's like buying tickets to a concert, only being charged once you get there to get into the venue.

I play 3 nights a week here in Miami. I play C, and D ball, which are very competitive leagues and tournaments. Shaved bats are a big problem down, to the point where if you arent using them, you arent competing! Our league fees for 10 games and playoffs are usually $500-$550. Tournaments are $250-$300, but most upper level teams have sponsors.

Shaved bats, heh. There's a team that we played several times that was sponsored by an auto body collision repair shop. Anyways, the team had a collection of Miken Ultra II's, Miken Freaks, Easton Z-Core Titanium Senior League, etc. and they'd give them to this shop and have them strip them down to the metal and repaint them to replicate Miken Freak 98's and Easton Synergy's, complete with authentic decals.
I had a teammate who acquired a shaved Miken Recoil that I tried out once just to see what the big deal was. I didn't like it, but probably had a lot to do with the flex handle.
Myself, I rolled my bats. When I quit playing I had three bats in my bag; the original Rip-It Reaper ASA (could drop serious bombs with this bat), Easton Synergy Extended SCX3 and a Easton SCN9 Stealth. Got the Stealth by trading a Worth JH Mutant 98, cause I just couldn't stand the flex handle.

Softball bat collecting is a crazy subculture. Just like cigar smoking, if one finds a particular smoke you especially enjoy AND it's a limited run, it's not unheard of for someone to track down a dozen boxes for future use. Same thing with softball bats. There's guys that I know that still to this day have half a dozen brand new SCN3's, and those were released five, six years ago? These older bats are in higher demand because they're still ASA compliant, yet have a lot more pop in them due to the ASA a couple of years ago forcing manufacturers to comply with the 98 MPH regulation after a bat is, "broken in", not prior. Really can't speak for bats from this year, but I know the ones I hit that were made in '09 & '10 felt like logs compared to their predecessors.

I played last night. Man my coed team sucks! Got 20 run ruled again, Making us 0-7. I am in a slump. Through the first 4 games, I was 8 for 9,the next 4 games I am 1 for 9 with 3 walks though. I am hitting dead center, To the warning track on a 300ft field. Just a little to much air under them. I can't seem to get out of the hitting slump.
On the other hand, My fielding has been great. I pitch and play first. Last night, at first, People were pulling my way.. Lots of action and a dive to stop it. The other team thought I was 'real good' so I heard them say. I told them, I'm not that good, I am just having a good game.

Started the season on Sunday. We were up, then down, then we put our rally caps on. Ended up losing by one but it is all good. It was great to get out there again and get the rust off.
Played for years - nearly always infield. Something clicked in my early 40's and a little fear started to set in. No idea why, but it was rather sudden. Tentative fielding didn't work at all and I gave it up. Miss it sometimes....and still wonder why after playing since a toddler, my mind quit before my body. Maybe just a recognition that my reactions weren't up to the task...idk.

There are teams from all over NV,ID, and some I'm sure from OR. It is a double elimination tourney, your team keeps playing until you lose two games. In the slack time people hangout in their campers which take up most of the parking lots, drinking and pitching bean bags! I'm pretty lame though, I normally just go home and sleep if I have a few hours between games. Oh yea, the games go on for 44straight hours, so you might end up with a 2:00am game, or you might end up hungover playing in 90* heat. Needless to say if your team progresses, your quality of play will be severely compromised, so it can end up being a death march toward the end. Still good fun though!
