View Full Version : The "Devil Site" Vs Cigarsatyourprice

Ok, I have not tried to win anything from either site, but it seems people really don't like the devil site (hence the name)....what is wrong with this site?

Is it really that easy to win?

I have practiced with cigarsatyourprice and I am fairly good at this site....if you can call it that.

I am not a big fan of auction sites, because I really don't know what I am doing be it Ebay or others.

So I am curious what is the difference good and bad of both sites?

You always win at cigarsatyourprice since you only bid against the lowest price they will sell it at.

People dislike Cbid because of the effect it has on their finances and credit balances. Like any auction site it is important to research prices and then set the max you want to bid as a reserve. Never go back and check, that will get you caught up in competitive bidding and going above your max.

Bid low on several lots, winning just a small percentage is a good thing. It means you are spending wisely. Winning a lot is conversely bad. You are paying too much for your purchases. Watch the selling prices on cigars you are interested in purchasing, maybe for a couple of weeks or month. Then you will have a sense of whether the selling price is something you are willing to pay.

Popular, new or "hot" cigars will always sell at a premium, so try to buy "off the curve"

Dont get caught up in the hype, nothing is limited on Cbid. The same lot will be back in the next week or two. Use the search to find your preferred lots.

Finally, set your preferences to ship once a week otherwise you will pay shipping for every winning bid. :2

Cbid makes you spend too much $$$

You end up in bidding wars and at that point it's all about winning.

I don't like to bid at all.

My vote goes to CAYP.

I went overboard my first few days on CBid, like many do. I got the hang of it after a while. Great advice up there... After you set the max you will pay, DON'T CHECK IT!!! They will email you if and when you win something.

:tpd: have to learn whats a deal and whats not.

Therein lies the rub. That's what I'm trying to learn now. I bring up Cigars Int'l in another browser window and I check the price at CI against what I'm interested in at CB. Then I decide on a percentage that I am willing to consider a "good" deal. I set that as my max bid.

I like the Free Fall section on cbid. I buy most of my sticks from cbid and Cigar Monster. Both are my favorites to buy. I use Famous-Smoke, Cigar.com, and Cigar International to research. Occasionally I find a deal that I can turn down on those too.

Slower shipping then most....

Mashups are great deals.

I use them for accessories though and not cigars.

Xikar MTX Scissors are like $27 shipped
Xikar 009's $19-$20 shipped

Those are regularly great deals. The Xikar lighters are priced right too.

I only buy from C-bid When the specials interest me. Deals of the past are now too much loot. I haven't used CAYP but I will in the near future. I only look at Monster on Friday night for the mash ups. I get good deals on Famous exclusives there.

Thanks Bill & Doug, will keep my eyes peeled for these "Fall specials" and accessories.

Tom, yeah I seen that, but I haven't ventured very far into that section.

In my short time on this site I have used them all. Just like was said above, the best thing to do is research. Just be smart and look for good deals. Right now my favorite is whichever has the Cigar I want at the best price!!

@Bill - I have been monitoring cigarmonster for that allusive 009 punch. One of these days fate will take over.

I don't understand the "bidding" wars that happen at cbid. I have only won 3 things on there and never was involved in a "war" of sort. I simply bid, and checked back later to see if I won.

Anyone who can't stop at their limit has a problem and should probably seek professional help... or delete their cbid account.

Bob is wise.

Regarding some of the other comments in this thread about the bidding wars at Cbid, one thing to keep in mind, that some people, if they have a large order already won for that week, due to combined shipping and savings from the other auctions, might be willing to bid a bit higher on one item or maybe even two, just to get it and have it ship with everything else. Sometimes it's an overall savings thing, sometimes its about just having it all show up in one box rather than boxes every week to avoid the dreaded "So you're buying cigars AGAIN?" speech from the SO.

I limit myself to $200-$250 per month weather it be CC's or NC's. As for where I buy my NC's, I have used Cbid in the past but lately I have found that cigarplace.biz and CAYP has very good prices on boxes I want. I might be able to get them for a few dollars cheaper on Cbid but I just don't like the hastle.

Ive used them a couple of times. The first time I ordered, the item was shown as in stock on their site but after placing my order I got an email stating that item was on backorder. Frustrating but their response time was quick. I will continue to use them. :tu

I have no experience on CAYP but Cbid I like. I don't get caught up in bid wars and try to always bid on auctions "closing today." I set my shipping preference to the following day instead of weekly and have my smokes in no time. Sometimes you can score some really great deals on Cbid.

There used to be a website where someone had gathered prices that every lot on cbid would go off for over a period of several months and found the average price. This was useful so you knew if you were going to get a good deal or not. I don't know what it is any more though

Do you mean c-h-i-m-p.com ?

IIRC, it wasn't really the average price over months, but rather the closing prices of the one particular day the site operator updated it.

Hasn't been updated in 2-1/2 years BTW.

CBID is definitely a Devil site as you can get caught up in buying way to much somehow.

Now Cigar At Your Price I have not ordered from yet but they have TONS of selection and surprisingly enough Very competitive pricing as compared to what you can say get a 5iver for on CBID you can get at CAYP about the same on many lots.

Plus if you maybe only want 2 or 3 they have singles at just as low of prices.

$7.95 shipping for your entire order or Free over 100 on CAYP... which is not bad cause CBID you end up paying no less than $4 and normally around 6-8 all depending on how much you buy (and that's if you do the weekly closing auction and not daily).

The 2 sites you brought up are 100% my go to sites for sure.

You can;t go wrong on either for pricing that's for sure.

Be careful with CAYP. They tend to let you purchase out of stock cigars and then tell you after the fact. Kind of a PITA. Other than that, the smokes I have actually received from them are great.

Only to add to the confusion...soon will be CigarSniper...which was fun, but I'm afraid of how much it will cost compared to what they put up there.

If they specialize in rare items, limited runs, etcs, then I think they will do well.

I prefer sites like CigarMonster and JoeCigar when looking for deals. Also, more likely to try the "make an offer" deals than auction sites. I try not to buy any boxes/bundles that I wouldn't smoke normally - although I have found it hard to pass up good deals on 5ers of cigars I've been meaning to try.

Hmmm I myself have not dealt with CI directly but CBID is the auction site for CI and I have had nothing but good things to say about my purchases and their customer service.

I had ordered a sampler and they sent me 3 of the Ave Marias in the long 7.5" Lancero size instead of the robusto size stated in the description. Their reply was that they were out of stock on the robusto at that moment so upgraded me to a larger size to fullfill the order.

I'm not much of a fan of long smokes so they said they would send me the correct ones.... they sent me a free return label to send the other back and then send out the correct ones that were now in stock.

I think some places I'm sure are hit and miss but CI is very highly rated from what I see and CBID has gone on without hitch other than this one issue that was perfectly taken care of.

Cigars At Your Price Shipping Info:

http://img714.imageshack.us/img714/5169/shippingprices.png

Its not bad considering you pay shipping just about anywhere really and even if you buy a couple singles at say Cigar.com you will still pay a minimum shipping charge of around 5 bucks.... and with what you save at this place over other sites like cigar.com and CI etc. the extra 2-3 bucks for shipping is nothing. Plus if you start using this site I'm sure you'll end up spending over 200 bucks anyway and the shipping will be free (which you dont get anywhere else that I have seen).

*Cigars at your price has consistent decent pricing and offers many of the harder to find boutique cigars.

*The Devil Site can be addicting and lead to making several small purchases that add up to big money before you realize it. You can find some absolutley amazing prices here but be careful, do you research and know what a good price is before bidding.

I recommend using both sites, Cbid is great for humidor stocking but they don't always have a lot of boutique cigars available like CAYP does.

Hope this helps.
