Carcillo is a loose cannon with decent 3rd line skills. The Hawks were missing that element when Burish and Eager left after the Cup win...I think he is a needed factor on this club.
Kruger has skills, but consistency and size will be the obstacles he has to overcome....he has potential, but so did Ken Yaremchuk. :r

Honestly this is bad and is really showing a serious issue within the sport. I just keep wondering if it will get worse before better. Think back in just over a year four guys who played the fighter and paid the price.
Potomski, Probert, Bougard, Rypien and I may be missing someone. All had apparent substance abuse problems and likely suffered repeated concussions which contributed to or caused death. I personally think the concussion depression link and substance abuse relation are all intertwined. Crosby is still having concussion symptoms. More needs to be done to protect the players brains. Clearly concussions are impacting the league like never before.
Sorry for being serious for a moment. Return to posting pictures of guys holding up the cup.

First of all, rest in peace Mr. Rypien, you were a worthy opponent. The concussion angle makes me think about Lucic as an enforcer and Bergeron and Savard as concussion victims. Kind of scares you that some very good players could be at risk because of hits in the head. Makes me glad that my daughter did not play the game. Thank you for the thoughtful post.:tu

Its funny my son is young and has averaged a violent collision that made me very concerned both of his first two years. He has thankfully gotten a lot better this summer about skating with his head up as I have hammered on him about it. Whats sad is we get so used to yelling at the kids to get up when they go down. Its just part of the culture and I and everyone else is guilty of doing it. Its generally the first response. Then its, crap he might be hurt. The sport makes you tough I have seen this first hand with my son. Watched him get hit pop back up start to skate then start to cry and head to the bench with the wind knocked out. Its part of the game and deeply engrained in the culture to be tough and play hurt and not say when somethings wrong. That dudes a nancy etc. Its odd I was proud of him last year when he had his big collision and wanted to go back out after I got done checking him out. I didnt let him skate anymore that day even though he seemed fine.
Its definitely something I worry about a lot. The other day he said he wanted to play in yhe nhl when he grew up. I laughed and said he should play baseball or golf. As of late I wouldnt want him to ever play at that level.

I guess not, with the flex could be up to 21 games :D
14 Bruins games will be broadcast nationally in the United States on VERSUS (games marked as "non-exclusive" will also be televised locally on NESN). Three games will be broadcast nationally on NBC, with an additional four marked as "flex" games by NBC, meaning they potentially could become nationally televised games on NBC if the network chooses.

I was very lucky due to my position that the only injuries that I had was a knee that had to have a cart removed and some back problems showing up now that I do not know if they were from sports or from military service. I think that my point is that now a days you need to keep an eye on your kids so that concussions and brain stem injuries are not missed in the tempo of getting them back on the ice. Are you talking about when he ran into Steckel at the Winter Classic or when the Penguins foolishly put him back in against Tampa Bay and Hedman finished his check?

Game happens fast at that level, I don't think there was intent on Steckel's part. Crosby's teammate Matt Cooke makes more questionable hits than that on a weekly basis. :2

I was talking about the winter classic hit. from what it looked like, and I saw it once, was that he he blind sided him with an eblow to the head. Like I said I saw it once and only once. That's what it looked like to me, just my :2 I agree 100% on your thoughts on mike Cooke. Hopefully Crosby will be good to go again by the start of the season, he had an amazing first half of the season last year, kind of a shame he got hurt for the second half of it.
I am slightly worried about the Flyers though this year, I think they made a lot of big moves to improve their teams depth. I expect them to do pretty well this year.

Felt bad for Mursak last night. Watched the Wings Hawks. The push was bad intentioned and watching his ankle twist up like that was ugly.
Yeah, and they said he was going to make the roster too. Sucks for him.
James Wiesnewski (sp?) got suspended the rest of the pre-season and first 8 games of the regular season for a head-shot. I like him, but he just doesn't learn. :2

Hey what do you know Nabokov is a Islander. Still over handling the puck and won't stay in his cage. Someone better chain that hamster to the crossbar. Have fun Islanders fans one minute you will love him, the next you will wonder if he is mildly retarded. Watch out he likes to wear skin tight jeans. Yeah that was an unpleasant conversation.;)

watched the Sharks Camarys last night. Lafloppier did his usual dive got the call. Boyle went to stand him up as he entered the zone. His elbow got near his face. You would have thought the guy got jumped by 3 guys the way he went down then laid there. Boyle started poking him with his stick as he laid on the ice. Feigned injury on the ice. Seconds later laughing it up on bench. Hate that team hate that floppier. Lot of fights in that game. Lot of bad blood. The announcers blew sweaty dog.

I couldn't help but think of this article I read:
http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/7116518/what-do-mean-we
What Do You Mean, 'We?'
The most overused term in sports
We really need to find a better rebounder.
I can't believe we won that game in the bottom of the ninth.
How do you think we're going to do on Sunday?
Here's the deal: If you don't play for, or you are not an employee of, the team in question, "we" is not the pronoun you're looking for.
"They" is the word you want.
...
Because we're talking about sports, there are certain gray areas, of course. I'm a reasonable man. If you're a resident of Green Bay, Wis., you might be able to say "we" when you're talking about the Packers, because you might very well own some small percentage of the team.
If you're a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, you can probably say "we," because your faithful devotion to that miserable team is the principal reason they will always be ****. You might as well accept your share of the blame.
College teams present the most interesting dilemma. If you're a student at a university, and you somehow help fund the team through your student fees — I'll freely admit that this might be a purely Canadian, socialist phenomenon — then "we" is appropriate.
But if you've never even attended the school? Then there's no "we" about it.
...
But wait, WAIT, the fans said to me the other night. Sports teams are different from all those other objects of affection. Teams are part of the social fabric of a community. They play in a stadium that we probably paid for. Their name includes the name of my hometown. I'll still love the team long after the current players are gone. How come they can say "we," and I can't? I was here before them, and I'll be here after them. I'm more part of this team than they are.
Tell that to Expos fans or Whalers fans or Browns fans or Grizzlies fans. There wasn't much they could do to change the direction of things, was there? "We" would have meant being able to do something about it. "We" means participant, not observer.
I'm not busting your chops Christos. I've been known to say it too. I just happened accross this article and throught of yours and Mike's recent posts. It's a pretty funny read, although I can't say I entirely agree. I think the author is being a little uptight about it but, it does make for a good laugh.

Don't jump just yet. You're very early into the hangover. About 20 games in you'll probably be writing death threats to the GM. By 50 games in the fog might start to clear and if you're lucky they'll make the playoffs.
They likely won't get crazy wanting to blow things up until the offseason. :D

Hopefully the Flyers can get back to some semblance of normalcy after the ridiculous performance on Thursday against the Jets. The team has to play tons better and help Bryzgalov get some confidence back.

No. The sky is falling. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh its the zombie apocalypse.
Hide yo kids hide yo husbands, cause they rapen everyone up in here.
Hope Sharks continue winning.
I like the Sharks but they play my Isles tonight so I will be watching on ceenter ice...Lets go ISLES!!!!!
Side note. It is pathetic the support the Stars are getting. They are playing well and that arena is a ghost town. It reminds me of Tampa and Florida in year past. Horrible.
Agreed, can you say Bienvenue au Québec???
Avs lost their second in a row & still have not won at Pepsi....
Outshot the Oil 41 to 19....

The Bulin Wall has been unreal so far this year for the Oilers. Just waiting for his groin to go, as usual.

Time to put that old dog down.
I kid. They have looked off though.
The Sharks on the other hand seem to be getting it together. The Burns Havlat trade for Seto and Heatley has definetly been a win so far. Burns has been nice to watch and Havlat is been nice also.
I think the real story is Edmonton. That team is going to be awesome in the near future and will win a cup in the next 5 years. Calling it.

Eberle - Hall - Nugent-Hopkins? Wow.
Ryan Smyth playing like he's 25 again, and Horcoff benefitting from it? Super.
Lots and lots of upside to this team, I have watched their last several games, and they are just getting better.
Their Achille's Heel this year will likely be Khabibulin. Though he has been awesome so far, recent history dictates that he will not stay healthy with a large work load.
I think if the Oilers find a good young goalie or trade for a starter who can play 55-60 games, they will be right in the mix in the next couple years as well.

If Dale Tallon works the magic there the way he did in Chicago, Panthers will be in the mix sooner than later. Smart feller, that Dale. ;)

We're a rare breed... Well, Miami fans that stick around during rebuilding periods are a rare breed period.
I really like how our offense is playing very much how you've described it. Our defense, on the other hand, shows glimpses of hope; but there shouldn't be as much pressure on our goalies as they've been getting lately.

Gutty performance tonight by the boys in teal. Niemi pisses his pants 2 minutes into the game and the team goes down 0-2. Niemi gets the hook and the boys battle back and win it in the shootout. That was also one of the best OT periods I have seen in a while.
Clowe is a beast.

That was a great game yesterday, although I knew once the shootout started that there was no way Markstrom could block both Toews and Kane, on top of that Corey wasn't phased at all at our rag tag shootout corps.

Anyone see the fight in Canucks/Wild game? Clutterbuck punches the ref in the face twice :r Here was the best video I could find that shows both punches, fast foward to 27 seconds.

Yes I did. Watching it last night with my son. He thought it was pretty bush league of the Canuck player trying to lift Clutterbuck into the Canuck's bench. Then when he swung, and hit the ref, he started laughing. I will say that the ref looked shocked, and then pretty ticked off!
The Wild are playing really good hockey right now!

No one was even talking about detroits losing streak. It's the 800lb gorilla in the corner. If your not worried good for you. If the Sharks were getting beat like that and the defense looked that bad I would be concearned. If there are no worries then the media must be lying. What's interesting is next year when the old man retires it could be a total disaster unless some big moves are made.

They will HAVE to bring in a big name or two. They will have the cap room. It's just a matter of who is available.
The local media is giving the streak some airtime. A few are asking the inevitible questions but overall the opinons are that the pucks just aren't going in for them. I admit I haven't watched yet this season. I've been way too busy. What I'm hearing is they are getting chances just none finding the back of the net. They you have those nights were Howard has stood on his head and yet no offense. Others where Howard or Conklin weren't as good as they needed to be. Not really sure myself. I need to DVR some games. At least I can watch them even if it's the next day.

Yea the D hasn't been great. Too many turnovers and getting caught too deep in the offensive zone. I think the bigger problem is the lack of goal scoring. Wings are just frustrated and you can tell. Franzen is hesitating on shooting big time. Once we start lighting the lamp things should get better. We are still taking a ton of shots, just not getting the 2nd, 3rd or 4th chances anymore which is also a problem. Homer IMO should have retired before the season started.

That's the same deal with the Bruins, they should have at least three more wins?
The guys could not put the puck in the ocean, missing empty net after empty net.
Last week at practice Julien brought four nets on the ice with no goalies and had the team just shoot pucks all practice.
Nice first for the Avs. Start the second on the pp(1:50ish)... Go Avs!!!

I actually got to watch part of the Wings/Ducks game. In a 5-0 win, they looked a lot better. I hope they can make it 2 wins straight against the Avs tomorrow.

I've been happy with the results in their games. Haven't been able to watch any though. I do know that following the scores online is a little scary. They seem to find themselves in a hole a lot or blowing multiple goal leads. Wish they played with a bit more consistency. Luckily it is a long season.

So I guess the sky isn't falling for now and you don't need to fire the coach and blow the team up for a few weeks.
Sharks doing well. Starting to look like the West winner like some are saying.

Julien has changed his coaching style during the Montreal series last season he was one loss from the hi-way and know will call a player out if he is not producing.
I am willing to bet you will see Krejic or Rask traded by the trading deadline?
All is well in New England at least this week :D
