I was "Mr Mom" last night, so after the kids were in bed and with the wife gone for the evening, I decided to have a bonfire and try a new cigar. I had been to my local store a couple of weeks ago, and someone suggested a Gran Habano, Habano #3 Gran Robusto. It was a huge beast of a cigar, and I definitely needed a big bonfire to get through this one!

Per some suggestions, I decided to drink water as to not taint the flavors of the cigar, and I got all set to light the fire and the cigar! Honestly, I was very impressed at the cigar, and I liked drinking water to clean my mouth between draws. I could really taste more!

I really wish that I could give you all of the flavors that I was experiencing, but I'm just too inexperienced for that. It was just an awesome cigar...good medium body...even burn...medium draw....about 90 minutes of enjoyment time. Overall it was an awesome night! I might even look for a box of these in a smaller size to age in my humidor.

Thought that I'd share!
Nick

After you've done something like this hundreds of time, you realize why this is a great hobby. Never gets old.

Yup...it was a great night. I guess that I was happy that I'm learning how to enjoy my cigars more, too. A simple drink like water really was refreshing rather than a heavier drink masking the flavor. I've also learned to draw on my cigar slower, so it doesn't burn so hot. I'm just enjoying smoking more!

The flip side is that it's difficult to find that kind of time to smoke a beast of a cigar like that! Wow...

Congratulations!

On the cigar experience... and on living somewhere cool enough to have a bonfire. :cali

What a beautiful night, really doesn't matter how warm it is at night, if you got enough space you can enjoy the flame and the smoke!

I think perhaps the only thing that can make smoking a good cigar any better is a great outdoor fire at night. It just creates such a peaceful atmosphere. This is the perfect time in the mid-atlantic to enjoy a great outdoor smoke by the fire! Cool, crisp, autumn air and a good smoke!

Enjoy this time of year everyone!

Happy smoking to all!

Good to hear you had a great night nick.

Fall evenings on the east coast are a great time to enjoy a stick outside, I agree. I am gonna go out on the porch in a bit and fire something tasty up. Too bad it's pouring tonight can't go outside.

Nice relaxing time, good to hear. I might have to do that tonight. Only with beer instead of water.

I hate to admit this, but one of the biggest reasons for smoking cigars is to force myself to SLOW DOWN! Life moves too fast, fellas...

Great night indeed!!! Leigh and I did something similar ourselves. We went over to a friends house (they live on a lake) grilled some steaks, had a bonfire, smoked a cigar with margaritas!!!!! Gotta love nights like this.

Thanks for the great idea Nick! Your thread inspired a truly excellent evening by my fire pit with a Padron 1964 Aniversary maduro and some excellent brewskies!

That looks like a truly excellent night! I wish that I could have done the same, but it got cold pretty quickly last night.

This right here for me as well.

I'm even more of a Newbie than you, Nick, and I've still not quite had that moment that you described. I'm still working my way up to the finer cigars I guess.
