Cigarettes are the perverse opposite of cigars:
Cigars are long, cigarettes are short;
Cigars are dark, cigarettes are white;
Cigars are thick, cigarettes are slim;
Cigars smell strongly, cigarettes are perfumed;
Cigarettes are for the lips while
Cigars are for both mouth and teeth;
Cigarettes never go out but burn up quickly,
While cigars seem to last forever;
Cigars are big brutes, cigarettes are as feminine as jewels.
Cigarettes are for chain-smoking,
Cigars must be smoked one at a time,
Peaceably, with all the leisure in the world.
Cigarettes are of the instant,
Cigars are for eternity.

Cigarettes are the perverse opposite of cigars: (true)
Cigars are long, cigarettes are short; (not exactly true)
Cigars are dark, cigarettes are white; (true)
Cigars are thick, cigarettes are slim; (not exactly true)
Cigars smell strongly, cigarettes are perfumed; (perfumed? Not to me.)
Cigarettes are for the lips while (lips? lungs more like it)
Cigars are for both mouth and teeth; (teeth? how about the nose)
Cigarettes never go out but burn up quickly, (not true now that cigarette paper is laced with carpet glue so they will go out if unattended)
While cigars seem to last forever; (I wish)
Cigars are big brutes, cigarettes are as feminine as jewels. (somewhat)
Cigarettes are for chain-smoking, (true)
Cigars must be smoked one at a time,
Peaceably, with all the leisure in the world. (true unless you smoke a full culebra)
Cigarettes are of the instant, (true)
Cigars are for eternity. (again, I wish lol)

I wonder if cigarettes were different back in the day before chemical additives & manufactured processing--when it was just a cowboy, some cured tobacco, and something to roll them in. Wonder if they were more akin to what we would think of as mini-cigars.

Yes, absolutely. They still can be that way if you roll your own with quality baccy. You can make your own carton for less than $20. I am firmly convinced that the tobacco doesn't kill like they say it does. It's all the crap (300+ chemicals and known carcinogens to manipulate the nicotine content) added to it that will do you in.
And as I mentioned in my other post, the carpet glue (fsc) added to the paper is mind boggling to me. There have been no studies or research on the effects of it. I get people in the store all the time complaining of massive headaches since they started it and now that they roll their own, no headaches, less coughing and less overall smoking while being more satisfied.

im a very safe driver. had my bouts and seen to much happen to people from not paying attention. smoking a cigarette, changing the radio, looking at the gps and drinking(water or juice) are the only things i will do other then actually driving. I cant touch up my cigar while i drive, i cant relax and enjoy the flavors. for me a cigar needs to much attention for for driving.
but then again i see people reading the newspaper or applying makeup while they drive. so maybe im just over cautious.

I smoke cigars in the car a good bit and don't have many issues. I do tend to loosely follow this:

Just cracking the windows is the biggest help, it reduces the burn issues and need for touch ups.

Folks, we have enough problems here in Mass. where the powers that be want to eliminate all tobacco products that I wonder if it is wise to slam one product while supporting another. For the record, I have not smoked a cigarette since I was 18 and I am now 59. It just seems that we need to unite to protect ourselves. Just my :2.

You're right, Paul. Those who would ban all tobacco will have a much easier time of it if they pit us against each other. They sure as hell don't need our help doing it.

I wasn't bashing tobacco, I was bashing BIG tobacco. It's because of them, solely, that we are in the predicament we are in these days.

I don't believe that. We are in this predicament because the various governments have found that they can generate heinous tax revenue with no negative (for them) consequences when they demonize a product. None of it has ever been about health, it has always been about tax revenue, pork barrel politics and re-election. The busy-bodies and the do-gooders will never see a distinction between the different tobacco products because there's no money, or petty political power in that. Anti-tobacco organizations, like all organizations, are organic systems and will behave like any other organism. They must follow the biological imperative of survive, grow and multiply. They will never see an end to their "mission", because that would spell their "death". As Ben Franklin once said: "Gentlemen, we must all hang together, or most assuredly we shall all hang separately".

Hear, hear! Actually, I didn't mean to start a massive discussion when I posted the "vs" ramblings; it seemed like a good overview of the difference between the two- especially since many if not most people lump all tobacco together-- all the way to "third hand" smoke nowadays! Nonetheless, bottom line is "nanny" govt that "knows best" for all of us from tobacco to Happy Meals. I love my country, I fear my government!

Or... as Thomas Paine wrote in Common Sense:
"Society in every state is a blessing, but Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one: for when we suffer, or are exposed to the same miseries BY A GOVERNMENT, which we might expect in a country WITHOUT GOVERNMENT, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer."

I've smoked cigarettes a half-dozen times over the course of my life; but I always quit, liking these smokes but not their effects on my body. Although I can't smoke a cigar or pipe on demand, like a cigarette, it's worth the wait.
And I don't get chest pains.
