A buddy and I were talking aboutt he cars we drove throughout high school. It was funny the odd cars that we remembered. This was triggered by driving by the high school and seeing beemers and hummers.....kinda sad. So lets here about or see what you drove through high school(or for you old guys, the name of the mule you rode). :r

I drove a 1972 Chrylser New Yorker. Yes, it was f'in huge. We fit 10 people in there comfortably.......and two in the back VERY comfortably. It had a 440ci v-3 with a 3 speed auto tranny. For weighing the size of a third world country, it would getup and go. Sadly, I am selling it due to no time to work on it.

Growing up in Europe, I didn't have my first car until I was out of college! In fact, I didn't have a DL until I was out of college- and only got it then because my job was as a traveling salesman! Boy, having a car sure gives you freedom! That's probably why all the leftists want to make it so difficult to own/drive one!

I drove a 1977 Datsun 280Z, that I had to push start to get off campus at lunch time. Here is a pic of one similar. It had an in-line 6 cylinder engine, and rear wheel drive. This car was a blast! Mine was the same color, but not as nice...

1969 RS Camaro

350 ci, 3 speed automatic transmission, 3:31 rearend
Grey/silver in color with black houndstooth cloth interior.

My dad kept it for me when he bought it in 1974. I was born in 69 so it always had a special link to me. I drove it from 15 years old to 19, when I finally gave it up during college. The 8 mpg was hard ot afford. It still sits under the barn at my parents. It needs some work. For a cool $8-10K, I could have a dream car. One day!

Oh the good times in that ride!

My dad and I had a 72 Impala drop top. Was a blast to rebuild. Blew the engine at a drag strip when I was 10. We did some research and found a 454 out of an old trooper car. Put it in drove it for a month.......two tickets later my dad sold it. :(

My first car was a brown 67 VW bug that I bought for $75.00 bucks from the neighbor accross the street. It came with a second engine and I could change that sucker out in about 3 hours.I ran that car home from school one day about 12 miles on 3 spark plugs no problem at all except for not being able to drive over 40 mph. I kept that car for 2 years and sold it for $250.00 bucks to a guy from school. He drove it for another 3 years and sold it again. Best darn car I ever owned

My high school ride was a silver 1994 Mazda B4000. Rear wheel drive with 4x4 and a 6-cylinder on a 4-cylinder platform. Thing rocks in the snow.

My college ride is the same sturdy little truck.

This, but silver and minus the man-cab and the chrome on the front bumper:

Sweet!! My dad got a 79 Royal Knight brand new off the lot. It had the smallest V8 Chevy made, a 257 ci. That little light car would flat out haul ass! It's still parked in the edge of the field with probably 800 spiders growing under it.

I drove some real beauties during high school.

First was a 1976 Dodge Aspen my Grandma had bought new. I got my driver's license in 1996. The head liner sagged down and had some funky stains where my grandma's cat crawled in and had babies. The chicks loved it. :hn I drove it for about six months without reverse gear, too, which made parking a pain.

Next was a 1978 Chrysler Newport, green.
Then, a 1984 Chrysler New Yorker.
Finally, a 1980 Ford LTD, green. Drove that through my first two years of college until it crapped out.

1985 Chevy Celebrity...Came silver but I 99.95 painted it dark grey, and very quickly it became silver and grey. Though it did have and 18 inch bass tube wedged in the trunk... And the tailights had to be duct taped on because they would rattle themselves off.

I had a no-name 10-speed bike I made from misc. parts in high school. My first car was when I finally saved up enough money at my first real job. A '69 Triumph Spitfire. Little go-cart car that got 35 MPG but couldn't get out of it's own way. I then got a '78 full sized Ford Bronco. Lots of good times in that one.

A '67 Mustang coupe, which I still have, with the fancy turn signal lights in the hood and a not so stock 289.

I still get a laugh when I think about the time a buddy of mine and I were dragging stop light to stop light and we get polled over by his dad. The first question out of his mouth was "have ya been drinking" and we replied with an emphatic 'not yet'.

bench seat for all the good times. 2.8L 4 cylinder 5 speed. pretty quick on the get up for a little truck. my dad bought it new off the lot in 1988, I was playing in the sandbox in the yard when he brought it home. it had 270K miles on it when I got it in 2001, and had 320K miles when I left for Italy. My brother drove it to 350K and my dad just sold it for 1 thousand dollars at 360K miles on it. The valves were starting to leak and the suspension needed an overhaul but it was a damn good truck. My dad really regrets selling it. The guy who bought it, dropped a new 4 banger in it and still drives it around our little town. Dad said he's thought about going and buying it back... lot of good memories of that truck.

I had a 1978 Mercury Grand Marquis, nicknamed "The Beast" (of course).

It was turd brown and gigantic. Had some power though, thanks to the 460 under the hood. I got voted "junkiest car" in my senior class. :D

Once my friends stole my car out of my driveway (I always left the keys in it). They took it to a garage and went nuts with paint. They painted one of the doors orange and put a black "01" on it like the Dukes of Hazard car, taped off the hood and painted it 2 different colors, stenciled "THE BEAST" in huge letters on the trunk, wrote MISFITS on the driver's side door and GARTH BROOKS SUCKS on the passenger's side door...

For some reason I got pulled over by the cops way more after that.

Puke green 1978 Pontiac LeMans, two door with the Landau vinyl top. It looked like something your grandpa would drive, but there were lots of good times in that car.

I had a 1979 Ford F150 Ranger, regular cab, short box, 351. Loud as H#ll, blue botle exhaust and a 15" sub. Man I loved that truck. I sold it in 1993 when I went to college, tried to find it last tyear to buy it back but found out some kid bought it and wrote it off on the drag strip. What a bummer.:(

1981 Ford Thunderbird

Two tone, black on top and silver on bottom.

Had the pop on wheel covers. Everytime you slammed the breaks, four hubcabs would go rolling past you down the street.

Wish I still owned this one. After I sold it I saw it a year later and the guy had absolutly destroyed it. Wrecked on both sides, broken stering wheel, and huge rips up and down the back seat. I would have been happier if I never saw it again.

What a shame.

'70 Ford Maverick. Puke green with black vinyl seats. Man could that thing fly! It had so much torque that the front of the car would yaw whenever you floored it. The heater was busted (which sucked in Michigan), there was no AC (which sucked in Michigan), there was no radio, and the battery drained every time it rained but I don't think I ever lost in a street race in that beast. Sadly it was lost in a flood only to be replaced by, ta-da!, a '72 Maverick.

And, yes, it's strange to see all the shiny new cars kids drive these days. I don't think I've ever seen a teenager working on a car in my neighborhood whereas when I was a kid that's all anybody did.

I wish I still had pictures of mine. I drove a 1977 Chevrolet C/K 10 pickup with the Bonanza package. It was one of the very limited released numbers (less than 10,000 made) that included a four bolt main 350ci V8 and an oversized heavy duty automatic transmission (these were standard on a basic 1-ton truck, and nearly unheard of for a mere 1/2 ton). Factory A/C, cruise control, manual locks and windows, and upright rectangular towing mirrors (the tall kind that attatched at three points on the door side). Two-tone rust and tan (color rust, not actual rust :)) with the gold stripe trim and oversized bumper fenders. Aluminum hubcaps, whitewalls to the outside. Disc/drum (front/rear) brakes, and

The only things that we changed were new upholstery and carpet (old was pretty ratty) in 2004, an AM/FM/Cassette and back corner speakers that were from the '79 model, and shoulder seat belts, also from the '79 model which were all added in '80.

In 2004, with 600K miles, the engine finally gave out. After some cracked seals led to oil leakage, the number 1 & 2 rods stripped the camshaft and threw, causing the piston heads to sink and collect oil in the chamber above. Amazingly there was NO lip formed on the cylinder walls, so to fix it we only had to do a standard 30/1000ths re-bore. The hard part was a new camshaft which had to be custom ordered for the heavier engine.

Was a helluva good truck too.

1st car at 14 was a 1960 Rambler Ambassador.....push button auto and full fold down seats. Soph year finished 1st build on '69 Charger R/T. Hit 10.95 sec on street tires once, then racing for pinks hit a deer at 110....so much for that.

Hey! I had one of those - 3rd car I bought, used of course, in dark green. Bought it right after college when I enlisted in the Army.

High School car was a 65 Rambler 660 Classic Station Wagon - see below (not actual car).

After High School - starting college I got a 65 Chevy Impala, black lacquer finish - real ghetto cruiser! Again, picture not of actual car.
