Got bored again today.. So, I pulled out the boxes of bands that I have collected and took this clock the misses got for me for my birthday.

Took some bands, with some archival glue stick, a little organization, and I came up with this:

There is an arts and crafts festival every year in my town in the fall. I think I will make a handful of these along with some other crafts I've done and see if I can make a few extra bucks. :noidea:

Very cool. I have been thinking of doing this sometime with my old bands. The only thing I would change if you are going to try to sell them is make them all run the same way. Instead of doing different angled ones at the top to take up space just cut them all so they all are going horizontal and look more uniformly set. Great job though as it looks really cool. :tu

Yeh, I was thinking of that... I tried to get the face out of the holder, but couldn't figure it out. I think it was glued in. So then, I tried to cut the bands. It worked ok.
Hopefully I can get another style clock that the face can be easily removed to "wrap" the bands. I wasn't too pleased with the angled bands, but owell, its a first attempt.

I can see how it would be hard if the face didn't come out. I didn't mean to knock your design at all. It looks great bro. I think I may try this on a clock I have from Ikea. Or let my girlfriend do it haha. She loves arts and crafts type things.

Very Nice Shawn! May I suggest cutting out some kind of border and covering it with cut bands and setting it in there to cover up the white on the border of the clock?

Made another one for a brother who wanted me to make him one up.
This one turned out a little better than the first.

Wow, those Ave Maria bands are awesome looking. I'm going to have to get some of them and some San Miguel (I think thats what they are) just for the bands.

Question: Does the glass just pop off of these and did you put the glass back on after?

Mainstays ... I think that's a Target brand correct?

I wonder if a black background would look better and not have all the white showing around the edges and in between the bands. Just a thought..... what do you think?

I am really excited to find a clock to do this too down the road..... I dont have enough yet to fill the clock..... DAMN I have to start smoking more! :-)

Great looking project. I've been saving bands with the thought of doing a table top, but I may have to try the clock thing.

Nice simple little project. I too, like everybody else, am saving my bands for something. I like the clock idea. I was thinking I might use the bands to make a matt to go around a picture or cigar art.

what type of glue did you use?

Archival glue. Make sure the glue you use is acid free or it will yellow over time and ruin your work. It dries clear and it forgiving til it dries.
I get mine from Michaels craft store.

Question: Does the glass just pop off of these and did you put the glass back on after?

There are a few small screws on the back of the clock that releases the frame off the back and the glass stays with the frame.

Mainstays ... I think that's a Target brand correct?

Walmart. Lowe's has some nice clocks too. But thy can get expensive if you look at them. The only thing you will see once done is the frame and hands, so keep that in mind.

I wonder if a black background would look better and not have all the white showing around the edges and in between the bands. Just a thought..... what do you think?

Yeh, thats an idea I thought of doing, gettin a white face and painting it another color to have the bands pop out more.

I am really excited to find a clock to do this too down the road..... I dont have enough yet to fill the clock..... DAMN I have to start smoking more! :-)

Keep on smoking, they will pile up quick!

If anyone would like some cigar labels for this or a similar project,
feel free to PM me. I've got 6-7 months' worth of bands saved up.
That's about two stuffed no. 10 envelopes, BTW. :D

Shawn thank you for coming up with such a great idea on how to use some cigar bands to create a very cool clock.... I went ahead and took the time and put one together for myself. I went a little larger on this one then Shawn did.... I used a 12.5" internal round (14" Round on the outside) clock to get many more bands in there and make it look nice and clean. I to also got the Paper glue from Michaels as Shawn originally stated (Acid free archival glue). I used every cigar band at the edge and cut to fit flush with the round edges all the way around so there was zero background showing.

Thanks to the few bands I currently had and the amazing donation of cigar bands from smokin5 I was able to create a killer cigar band clock for my man cave!

I cant thank you enough Eric for the large envelope of cigar bands so I can complete my project.... and to top it off not only did he hook me up with a huge pile of bands he shot me over a sampler pack of some damn amazing sticks!!!

A True BOTL.... Thanks again Eric.v:)

The finished product..... Whad'ya Think???

All thanks to Skokin5 for this amazing package that my clock is complete and I have a few more killer stick to enjoy in the near future.....

Glad I could help out for your project.
It turned out very well - smart lookin clock.

And I told you, those aren't cigars,
they're "do it yourself" cigar band removal kits. :ss
