Precisely my thoughts too Bill.

I don't mind a minor scratch here and there, but "severe cosmetic damage" to "all sides" and "we can not provide pictures".

Uh, yeah. Pass. I don't need a hangar queen.

But I do want to add that even if their disclaimer on this particular one makes me want to stay away, I really appreciate Forrest looking out for us on this, especially since I never received the automated email from compact appliance.

Oh definitely it's good he posts these all the time or I would have never gotten my first edgestar, I couldn't thank him enough. So I ordered shelves from him :D And every edgestar I get he'll find more Pm's for addition shelves.

I hear ya, cosmetically scratches don't bother me. Hell I'll end up putting a few on it in no time.

They are probably already there, but I don't notice :sh

S&D Edgestar from them 2 months ago. 129.00 delivered.
All the dents were around the back sides and rear caging.
A little scary to look at but it works like a charm.

Guys, it always says severe cosmetic damage.
Some have a few small dents, but if things are tight in the wallet,
this is the way to go if you have expensive cigars that deserve
a good home.
They wouldnt be listed if they didnt work like new.

Art, I'm curious how you seem to have such extensive inside knowledge of the exact condition of all the damaged products being sold by the vendor.
Are you offering a personal buyback guarantee since the vendor explicitly states "are not eligible for a "buyer’s remorse" return."?

Regardless, it's moot point for this particular sale anyway:

This "Scratch & Dent" product is in good working condition. Each unit is a fully functional
return item with severe external cosmetic damage to all panels of the unit

I wonder how many of you scrolled down??
Maybe 99 bucks is still too good a deal to pass up. But what if it won't even seal properly?
Ehh...I guess cosmetic is the key word.

I swear though, if I was not in a "let's get RID of all the chunky, clunky, over-sized crap in my life"
mode, I would def be picking up one of these. If for nothing more than my Cohibas and other first-
line items. I'd need a dozen of these damn things otherwise.

I took note of it, and it was pointed out on the first page. It will most likely be tucked away in the basement or a closet, so I don't need it to be pretty. They listed it as a fully functional, warranted item. That was my primary concern.

Yeah with all the bold it was hard to miss. They say the units still function with the factory warranty as well. I could care less how it looks as this is not for display just for storage. I have shipment confirmation so I will post pics when it comes in. The seal was my concern as well but for 99 bucks I felt safe in taking a chance as it seems that all the scratch and dent items had the same warning.

Compact Appliances tests all of the units for FULL functionality BEFORE they ship.

I bought an open box Edgestar 28 from them and when I didn't get it a week later, I called and inquired. They apologized and told me the unit that I was supposed to get failed their inspection and testing and they were just waiting for another open box unit to be available.

For my inconvenience, they offered me a brand spankin new unit for $130 ..... shipped. :noon:noon:noon Needless to say, I jumped on it. It took three days to reach my door. It now sits in the spare bedroom, filled with drawers, beads and sticks !

Compact Appliance rocks :banger:banger.

Well it showed up today. I was a little concerned when I saw a hole in the side of the box but once I opened it I was relieved. Here are the pictures of the obvious scratches and dents.
Here is the front pic.
10023

The first is the bottom left front door. Some deep scratching.
10021
This is the top left front door. Just surface scratches.
10022
This is the hinge side panel with small dent and scratch.
10024

The only pic of a dent that I did not include is on the back but I could not get it to show up. Hope this helps anyone who wanted to see it.

I just did the initial clean with some oxyclean and windex to get the inspection stamps off the glass. Let it sit outside for an hour to dry and then did a baking soda wipe down. I now have some baking soda sitting in the unit while it runs to test the mechanics of the unit. So far it seems to be cooling ok. Room temp is 74 and the inside temp on the coldest setting is now at 55 after 2 hours running.

Got my beads in yesterday and have them in a cooler now. Any more advice on setting this up is more than welcomed.

Yes, but you don't have to spend $300 on even that if you look about. Just depends if you really want drawers or not. I have one with 5 draws and a shelf and another with just a shelf. The latter is all boxes. Both do their job perfectly.

The only real requirement is the wine cooler and beads, the rest is fluff.

The back is slightly dented, the front door has very minor scratches. The handle, screws and racks were all included. I have it plugged in right now to see if it will hold the RH.

When you purchase drawers, get in touch with Forrest (GolfNut) here on the forums. I bought my drawers from him and they were fairly priced, perfectly made, and done quickly. I couldn't have been happier, and if I ever order more drawers or shelves it will be from him. Plus, he can work with you to make sure you get exactly what you want. You're guessing right, but even that is a scary thing for me. I have been doing fine with ice chests, but this is new

OK an update on my experience. I found enough issues with mine after further investigations I wrote and email complaining, to give a full picture here is the email I sent them Sat. night.

To whom it may concern:

I first would like to say several days ago I was made aware that you had your 28 bottle Edgestar Wine cooler for sale for $99 on compactappliance.com. I ordered it immediately. Since then I told 4 of my buddies about this new prized possession that I was very excited to receive. On the site I did take notice of the over zealous disclaimer about dents on all panels of the product but was assured it worked properly. I was glad that it did work appropriately, I also was relieved that it was not dented all that bad.

I did notice that the cooler was very poorly packaged which caused concerns at first but upon first glance once I got it out of the box it looked fine. Then I noticed that the handle for the door is missing altogether. Well that was not part of the plan, I should have all parts. Then I noticed the inside was scratched up a great deal on the bottom of the wine cooler, I assumed I would just cover that with a chilling rack that I have. The back panel, has a major dent so I thought I could remove it then I realized that was covering the thermoelectric unit and wiring, but I also noticed that this was not the original wiring. I found this frustrating because I ordered a scratched and dented unit not a refurbished unit. The last straw was when I saw that the wine cooler was not setting level so I tipped up one side to adjust the legs on the bottom, that's when I noticed it's missing one of it's legs.

Listen owning a small business selling environmental products, we often discount products when damaged. However, at this time I have a product that was packaged completely improperly, missing major parts, appears to be refurbished and poorly done so. At this time I would like to offer a solution that is fair for your company and me so that we may keep a positive relationship. First I would be willing to take another unit sent to me that is scratched and/or dented not refurbished and is packaged adequately. Or I would also accept my 99.00 payment going toward a deeply discounted new unit if a scratched and dented unit is not available. Please let me know immediately which one of these options would work best for your company.

GodOfFire
07-25-2011, 06:11 PM
I got a reply today saying, that they had no more scratched and dented units. They apologized and told me to feel free to dispose of my unit and they would promptly refund my 99 dollar immediately.

I may get a new edgestar but right now this puppy was FREE. Talk about turning a bad experience into a good one. Compact Appliance is first rate in my book.

They are great with costumer service. When I bought my "open box" unit I wrote them a email after a few days when I noticed that my status went from processing to backordered.

Not 45 minutes after I wrote a email I had a call from them explaining what happened. It turns out the unit I bought was the last one and while doing their testing prior to shipping they found out it wasn't cooling. To me it's nice to know that they actually did check it.

They quickly offered to either leave me on back order and the next unit is mine or they could discount a brand new one and shipp that same day. I said charge me the difference and call it a day.

Great people over there :tu

That would make for one very heavy cabinet!

:tu

But it would be sweet!!!! Think of it as a shell for the fridges.

You have the same issues as I am, minus the wiring. At least, I haven't checked the wiring on mine yet. But mine is missing the handle and one of the legs as well. And my door is busted to SH*t.

Looks like I may email them again.

haha, I KNEW I should have stayed on the sidelines....I was so happy there.
Then suddenly Sunday I was sitting there and my credit card just levitated out of my pocket
and flew through the air to the phone. I didn't want or need a S&D Edgestar28 and my weak mind
just cracked. But maybe my sitcho will be better than some of yours here. That's just sad, Peter. :(

I asked around and was told the excessive heat the past 2 weeks
is the cause to make it run a lot causing the water.
Needs to be kept in 77 degrees or less room temp.
Ive been shutting the AC off a lot.

Big f*cking plus one for CA coming through. They either were going to discount a new one (don't know how much) or just refund my money. Bravo to them for coming through :)

So my next step. Taking my credit and spending it on a solid wood door from waxingmoon for 100-150.

I cancelled my order today. I will take the backorder as a pseudo-buyer's remorse-return opportunity. There is no way
I needed another 'major appliance' in my pile of crap I call my life. I wanted one, but I was not going to wait for a
busted up one. Those scratches were one thing, but I saw those busted ones coming all the way down the road,
didn't I, lol. Pete, did you get a "free one', too??

That you did.

But, on a brighter note, I do get an edgestar 28 with solid wood framed door for $100.

yes you make a good point. But I think compactappliance.com did more than make it right. In fact I'm definitely better off for that experience and it will end up causing me to most likely purchase from them again.

Sounds like you guys actually got a better deal by getting refunds as you can make the modifications for the same price you got refunded and you have a nicer setup. :tu I can't wait until next year when I move as my girlfriend doesn't like my red cooler so I think I have talked her into letting me get one of these. :tu

Should be an easy sell. My GF LOVES the edgestar idea instead of the little cooler. Thoughshe does want another one for wine now too.

When I told my girlfriend she said "As long as it isn't too scratched and dented I think its a great idea. You mean we can actually use the cooler for parties and tailgating now instead of your damn cigars?" I just smiled and said "Yes baby". lol
