View Full Version : CAO..?

How do you guys pronounce that?

I find myself saying "chao" in my head, like French(?) for good-bye, but at the same time I want to think it is just "C-A-O", just curious what you guys think. The prior doesn't seem right, and the latter is too many syllables.

Bingo - it's just the letters "C - A - O". The company's official name is C.A.O. International Inc., after the initials of the founder, Cano A. Ozgener.

CAO is the founders initials, Cano A Ozgener, so C-A-O is correct.

Oops T.G beat me to it.

I pronounce it bye the letters, C A O, since it's an acronym for the founder Cano A. Ozgener. If somebody came up and asked me about the chow or k-oh I would have no idea what they were talking about :D lol

Edit: Got distracted by a user dropping by my cube and by the time I pressed post everybody else had already answered this, rofl.

Yeah, it's convoluted enough that I had to go double check the dates.

So, insert theme to The Brady Bunch tv show here...

2005: Swedish Match finishes acquisition of General Cigar.
2007: Henri Wintermans, a subsidiary of Scandinavian Tobacco Group A/S (STG), acquires CAO & Torano.
2007: Swedish Match acquires Cigars International and associated holdings.
2010: Swedish Match merges with STG. STG retains controlling interest so company name remains Scandinavian Tobacco Group.

Thanks Adam. I missed the whole STG merger, never heard word one. I'm less confused now, but I'm not sure what the odds of retaining any of it are. :D

Welcome Scott. For some reason, the STG merger didn't gather that much publicity or buzz, seems like it was just kind of mentioned a few places and then promptly forgotten about. Everyone knew about CAO, but a couple industry giants merge and no one notices. I might have missed it myself if it weren't for having a friend who works for one of the Swedish Match acquisitions.

And I sure as heck don't remember the exact dates or order myself - every time this conversation comes up, I have to go look up the order too.:r
