Well I ordered my second round of cigars last week, looking for opinions and advice.

Man o' War Robusto (5)

This is just my personal opinion--but you asked for it!--but this seems like a very expensive way to "try a bit of everything." On this purchase alone you've got 60 cigars, which is a full month of smoking at two cigars per day. Plus, with all these five and ten packs (plus shipping) it seems like you're dropping a relatively large amount of money, especially if you find out you don't care for a particular cigar. Surely you must have even a halfway-decent B+M nearby where you can go in, talk to the employee about what you have and haven't like, and pick up a handful of sticks based on his personalized and (hopefully) knowledgeable recommendations. It seems like picking up a handful of personalized recommendations at a time will allow you to "grow" quicker without dropping quite as much money. Again, just my :2, if your method works for you then by all means run with it!

Jesse,
I do appreciate your comments, I did ask for it, your right.
I really MUST stop ordering off the devil site, clearly it takes control of my bid finger.
I do not intend to keep ordering in these quantities I just want to have a load of cigars resting for a bit before I smoke them. I currently buy cigars and smoke them too soon. I also have three neighbors who are BOTL I can share and trade with.
Also the local B&Ms around here don't seem very knowledgeable. I feel like when I talk to them, I know more about cigars than they do, and I am new at this. I have found the best info since I have been researching cigars right here at CA.
I just purchased a 100 count humidor and needed to get it stocked up.
I smoked three cigars last night, kinda wish I didn't but we had a last minute neighborhood herf.
One was a Cuba Libre that I didn't much enjoy.
I also smoked a Legends Copper Label, way too sweet.
And a Graycliff 1666, that was very good.

Justin,
I do still need a cutter, currently borrow my neighbors.
I prefer a punch when not smoking a torpedo though and I have several punches.

Oh Oh I get to be the first to say this this time. Head over to the NST. Let whoever you get to trading with that you are still exploring your tastes and I'm sure that they would be more than willing and able to help you with that.

What he said....

Also why not check out the monster between 11-12 every night on the mash up so you can see all the deals for the day. The almost always have a few different samplers priced out fairly cheap. Also they not only have brand samplers but they also have them by strengths. There fore if you like mild, medium or full body you can pick up a decent sampler and try a stick or 2 of maybe 7-10 brands/blends.

Also the Cain and MOW are :tu from what you got for me.

another thing to try is looking at the sampler deals on Thompson Cigar. For a very reasonable price, you can usually pick up a real kick-ass and varied sampler. You'll find stuff ya like....and stuff ya don't!

Not the best approach, IMHO. The list of people that WANT to do business with Thompson's is a lot shorter than the list of those who don't...

I had a doctoral student who wanted to give me a gift after I sat on her dissertation committee. This was 2008... Fast forward three years, and Thompson's STILL won't leave her alone.

P.S.... The cigars were terrible (unless on the incredibly rare chance she joins CA, in which case they were wonderful!)

Look at joecigar.com everyday and cigarmonster.com every hour lol. Seriously though in my personal opinion it is better to catch the monster deal before it gets to monster mash (11pm-12pm) because you get free shipping on most items during the day as they are offered.

You also can check out the auction sites, as I think you have already, but I would look up reviews for cigars before purchasing as well as looking up what their retail price is. They often list their retail price or msrp price as something ridiculous as it makes it seem like you are saving alot. In reality some guys pay more than they could have gotten them for from the online cigar retailers that own them. Famous-smoke.com owns Cigar Auctioneer while Cigars International owns Cigarbid.com. I would cross reference prices on both sites as well as google for what are good deals. I have been able to pay around $30 for boxes worth $70+ with patience and looking it all up. It would be better to buy 5 packs though as you don't know if you will like the cigars. The only plus side with boxes is if you don't like the cigar you can either sell the cigars or trade them. Just my two cents though.

Thanks for the advise guys!
Have any of you tried the John Bulls or the Devils Weed?
I am hoping they are a decent cheap smoke.

Since your ordering all these cigars and trying them all. You should give reviews on what you think. Just saying may help someone else out.

I was trying this but I am no good at describing the flavors.
I can update you guys on some of my opinions after I smoke them, but they may not be very insightfull.

good luck, there is plenty of good advice here. the only piece I would add is take your time. you have the rest of your days to figure out exactly what you like and your taste will change as you become more aware of the flavors and nuances that each cigar provides your palate, so relax, go to the nst thread and it will all come together for you.

I've had the DW nicot. Very good smoke for the price. Not that strong, but lots of flavor. I think you'll like it if you're just starting out.

Yah, I enjoyed the DW, a bit too mild but consistent. The John Bull was another story.
