I am curious how many people use wine fridges for storage of their smokes, and not for the cooling purpose. I was able to pick this fridge up for free. Its a 30 bottle, compressor fridge. And it is broke, it does not cool. I plan on using it for cigar storing its bigger then the cooler I have now, so once I get it to hold rh I will transfer the small amount I have into it. Later on down the line when I can it will give me some room to work with when building up sticks. That and it will help keep the temps down a bit.

I have a wine fridge but haven't plugged it in in over a year. My basement in my house stays cool enough, and that's where I keep it. In my last apartment it ran year-round, though.
nice free pick-up, and nice empty humi pix :sl
My fridge is compressor driven also and I don't have it plugged in either. Works great for me.

All I have to do is threaten those who dare with my LIST. And they will run in fear. Isn't that right Mike?

A broken fridge will probably not help you with temperature at all. How well this wine fridge does as a humidor really depends upon the ambient environment around the wine fridge.
If you are able to keep it in a basement or other "coolish" place as others have suggested -- it will do great. Otherwise, you will just have to find out...
Good luck!

I have 2 vino that's I don't plug in. I just like the looks of them and like how well they work when setup with drawers.

Well, I don't have a basement and the coolest place in my house would be my closet. But on a hot day the ambient temp is the same in the closet as it is in my room. I checked the temps in the fridge for a few days, on a day where the temp hits 80F, the fridge stays within 74-75. In my cooler the temps will reach anywhere from 77-79 and on the days it hits 82F my cooler hits around 80-81. I think the fridge is more metal, glass etc. so it stays a little cooler?

I've got an edgestar decked out with cedar drawers in the basement. I don't have to run power to it since my summer temps never get above 68. I think it's a much cleaner look than a cooler, but then again I've got a couple of those as well.

I use one, specifically for the cooling purposes. As it stands now, it has been a perfect alternative to a cooled cabinet and handles my paltry stash pretty well. With a llittle tetris every now and then.

Alright, I have seasoned some boxes in the empty fridge. I have noticed RH swings 61%-65%. And when the door opens it drops to around 57%. Is this normal with a Wine fridge? And does this mean the boxes are still pulling moisture from the air?
I don't plug my vinodor in...it is just a fancy cooler...

Heres Mine. Compressor based plugged into a lamp timer and runs for about 15-30 min every 1-2 Hours works good and holds humidity pretty well.
