View Full Version : Your fallback cigar

I was curious as to what everyones fall back cigar is. The cigar that is always on for you, that you can always rely on to deliver. This would be the cigar that you would reach for if you are just looking for a good smoke. $1.00 a piece or $100 a piece it doesn't matter.

Personally, I am a fan of Perdomo Lot 23 maduros. Not alot of complexity, but good flavors, great for a morning smoke with a coffee and a good book to get lost in. I am also big on the Sancho Panza Double Maduro La Mancha. Really no complexity, but in the 5 years I have been smoking I have never had a bad one. At $1.50 a piece they can even fall into the mulcher if you brush it with a branch and you won't be too disappointed. (oops) And one that I am sure is on alot of peoples lists is the JdN Antano 1970, lanceros for me are the jackpot.

So what do you grab when you know you just want a good cigar?

Hard to determine from fall back and one that people like so much they smoke alot. I wouldn't consider a RASS a fallback for me, becuase I don't stock them regularly. So ones I can keep stocked at a low price are what a fallback is to me.

Everything else is just naming consistent cigars that I would always smoke.

My tastes are always evolving, so that's a tough question to answer. Often find what I thought was a fallback isn't as enjoyable anymore. Then I smoke a cheap-ass Fuente Curly Head Maduro that tastes great. Rather than looking back, I really enjoy moving forward.

Lately I've been craving some of the first cigars from when I started smoking 20 years ago. One of the first boxes I had bought then was some AF Cuban Coronas. I remember being mad when they broke 24 bucks with shipping. Now about a C-note. Still yummy after all these years. I love these for a walk down memory lane.
These days when I need to rush out of the house I reach for an El Triunfador #4. Not really a fall back, but I know it will be great and won't make me smell a restroom at NY Port Authority.

A real fallback for me is a Te-Amo robusto. Oh that barnyard stink. Not allowed to smoke it in the truck if the bride is with me.-(P

The cigar that I rely on every single time would be an Oliva 'O' robusto. Starts mild, develops a smooth transition to medium/full body with creamy textures and tones ranging from soily woods to some light sweetness. I think it is a beautiful cigar for a very good price point.
