View Full Version : anyone good at making logo's?
I have started a little side business repairing computers. I have a friend who has a screen printing business and she is willing to make me some t-shirts in trade for some work I did for her. I need a logo in .gif or .eps format, and don't know jack about making logos. I have looked on the internet at the free creators and they all suck. Not asking for something outrageous and willing to send some cigars if you like. let me know and we can work something out.
Meant to also add that the size should be big enough or either high res enough that it doesn't have to be stretched too much to make a logo on a t-shirt. Actually the logo will go on the left chest so it doesn't have to humongous, but once again I am challenged in this area, so what do I know.:r

I might be able to help but I am no expert by any means. I don't know how professional it would be. I have some friends who are graphic design majors but they would more than likely charge you a fee rather than doing it for cigars.

Any ideas of what you would like to see Greg? Company name? Photo of a computer? etc,etc...

If I had my Graphic Design program on my computer I would deffinately help ya out. But, hurricane Katrina took those from me and dont have the money to buy them back.
But if you need a graphic designer's opinion, advice, etc... I'll be glad to help out.
I got a degree in graphic design, its almost sad I don't use it much.

Greg, what do you invision it looking like, what kind of aspects to it, colors, etc. I'll try to throw something together when I have time. Also the name might help :p
Well I know I am picky and that prolly aint gonna get me far when I am begging. I would like some kinda pic of a puter in there, or if not then something techy looking that would transfer on a shirt well. The name is; GG's Computers and the catch phrase is: If I don't fix it, you don't pay
Prolly go broke trying to hold up my end of that bargain but what the heck huh?

Sounds like an idea for a contest. :D
Shoulda made this a contest. :r
I was kinda scared that if I made it a contest someone would think I was a schmuck.:tu
And the shirt will probably be grey.
And oh yeah, I suck. I spent two hours on google images and couldn't even find an image that I liked. Well actually that's not true, they were just in jpg and that won't work.

nobody around here would think that greg. u should know that.:)
Well then maybe I will make it into a contest then.:tu
If no one posts that I am a schmuck for doing it by tomorrow then I will make it a contest and the winner gets a ten pack from my humi. That sound OK?
Plus the next time I get stuck at a job, I am calling Shilala for tech support.:r
And that's only cause I have worn out my freebies with Dunng.

Greg, what would help DRAMATICALLY is if you'd just do a hand sketch of something you can see in your mind's eye.
Once someone sees that, they can throw some ideas out.
Realize it takes a lot of time to make logos, beggars can't be choosers, and simple is always best.

I know it bro, hence the schmuck comment. Simple is the way I imagined it. I'll try to post something similar and see if that helps.

Throw a couple big G's together and rock on. Like one G hanging on the other.
That would prolly be good Scott. Here are a couple of things that caught my eye:

Prolly something like the middle one would be simpler and cleaner.
I kinda like the idea of the two Gs though, so that would prolly work well.:tu

That would look absolutely badass if it was embroidered on. Maybe underneath just put "Fixed or Free."
Get it? GG, fixed or free? Easy to remember, easy to call. Or not. I just like rhymes. :D
edit:
I just looked through the rest, and I like all the logos. I don't think you can miss here, Gainey.

I threw this together, since you were kinda digging the double G thing. Im not entirely satisfied with it, but its a start. I just dabble so don't expect perfection :p
edit: wow the attachment feature strips some quality off of it.. I had put a light pattern on it to so you could kind of see what it'd look like on a shirt and all.

Do not mean to butt in here but I think I can help you.
www.lisarotenberg.com
And I will trade you for a handful of decent cigars.
I just finished designing the logo for a fellow forum member's cigar lounge and he sent me $250 worth of really nice cigars:

I am like you, Lisa, there are things that are fun, and there are things that are work. My work is FUN,
at least to me. But it wouldn't be work of I didn't expect it to put food on the table. SOMETIMES I give
stuff away, but we have to be so close enough as to blur that line between work and SHITZENGIGGLES.
No offense is taken I am sure. I can't eat cigars or thank you notes, lol. And times are tough all around.

How was it not appropriate? Greg seems to be looking at any help he can get.
I thought I tried to assure you that everything was cool, Lisa. Maybe I used too many words again and
confused my point. This kind of thing is an 'all-comers' endeavor. If he gets no takers, or doesn't like any of the
ideas, he might be lucky to get it done for $250, you never know. The asylum is loaded to the top with
people who always try to network something free before putting it out on the open market. I needed a sound card
for a dino-puter last month, a guy stepped up and was kind enough to ship it to me the same day, cost me 3 cigars
and a pint glass.

Thank you for your reply. I charge $1000 for a corporate logo.
But if the discussion is looking for work for free, that is fine.
I was looking for a BOTL trade of $250 worth of stogies. I put a lot of effort into my work.
Carry on, fellow smokers and I am available if anyone needs me.

Lisa I wasn't offended, and actually was kinda timid about posting this myself. I was somewhat afraid that it would be viewed as me asking for something free, however at this time I don't have $250.00 worth of cigars I could trade. I am sure it would be well worth it as that is what you do professionally. I did know that several of the members are good at doing stuff like that and was kinda willing to trade it for ten cigars, and wasn't really expecting a professional design, not that the others are not awesome. That's whats so great about this place though, is the brothers and sisters will come through for ya, usually way above what you might have exptected.
Also in the beginning of this thread I stated if anyone thought I was a schmuck for posting this let me know and I would bow out. :tu
And if ten cigars aint enough let me know that too and I'll see what I could do.
Brad, those are awesome, and I kinda like Earl's too cause of it's simplicity. Is there a way to get those in Gif format. I only ask cause the silk screener said that would work better on her end. And just so you know, I did some work for her and we are going to trade out the work for 5 or 6 t-shirts so it's not like I'm getting 200 of them and selling them or nothing. I actually just thought it would be cool and look a lot better if I had something with the name on it when I go to do jobs.:tu
Thanks for all the ideas and I like them all.
Also I know that I could convert the jpegs to gif using irfanview but according to the silk screener you would still lose quality, but once again I don't know much about this kinda stuff, so if you need to educate me.

Yeah I can save as a GIF. I currently have the photoshop file saved and I can send you that, but I designed it at a really high res and its 19.0MB. I'll save to a gif at full res and see how it does. send me your email address and I can mail it over. Sometimes GIF's dont save properly as far as the background, it looses it quality, what was teh other extenstion you said your printer can take?

Well teh full size gif saved fine. I took the pattern filters off just so it would be smooth since i was trying to imitate how it'd look on fabric.
i'll still need to email the full size since its like half a meg.
Heck send em both and she can pick which one is better. Gif and jpeg that is. The other format was .eps whatever that is. I'll send a pm for the addy. And get yours as well. Thanks buddy.
