View Full Version : My Cruise Sucks!!

My favorite ships cigar lounge "Churchills Cigar Lounge" on the Island Princess is infested with hoards of cigarette smokers. Never use to be this way, sucks big time!! Hell they have plently of places to smoke but they have decided they have found their own private smoking den. The old bags troop in en mass every couple of hours and hold court. I kid you not one of them told me she did not understand why they allowed cigars and pipes in the place.

What use to be a class cigar lounge has turned into Princess Cruiselines minimart of lounges, cig after cig paired with the folks who come in for their quick fix of 5 or 6 drags and then fly out the door. Ashtrays overflowing with lipstick covered butts.

After complaining to deaf ears it's adios to Princess, 11 cruises with them but no more. Can't wait to exit the ship in a couple of days.

We sail on Carnival and like it just fine. We're sailing on the Carnival Legend this September 4-11. Going to some nice cigar stops; Coz, Roatan, and Grand Cayment, all with LCDH's! Come on over and try Carnival if you haven't already.

Sorry to hear about all the cigarette smokers. That seems to be the case lately because of the limited places to smoke anything. I've seen them in the Carnival cigar lounges before too.

How dare you smoke Cigars in a Cigar Lounge!!!

Sorry to hear that, you would think that the ship would have standards.

Sorry to hear!

I have yet to read of a positive cigar experience on a cruise ship, in the past few years.:sh

Very disappointing to hear, I've heard great things about Princess before. After both my wife and I came down with some kind of plague on our last Carnival cruise, we vowed to find another cruise line for our next trip

I have been on the Island Princess twice and I am less than impressed with that lounge. You are right about the cig smokers holding court. I finally found a spot on the aft of D-Deck that overlooked the wake and had very little wind while underway.

We just returned on the Carnival Splendor and I couldn't have been happier. Instead of a small, cramped "lounge" where cigarette and cigar smokes are crammed in on top of each other, the cigar bar was spacious. Plenty of room for everyone, with live entertainment to boot.

This is the first cruise ship I've seen that provided a decent indoor space for smokers. I just booked us again on the same ship next year. The cruise line that treats me like a human being gets my $$.

Wasn't planning on doing a cruise anytime soon...this salted it for me. Sorry you had a bad experience.

The Disney Cruise lines treat cigar smokers pretty well. The two older ships (Magic and Wonder) allow you to smoke on your verandeh or in the smoking areas on decks 9 and 10. On the longer cruises the staff have arranged cigar events in the evenings when there is enough interest. The two newest ships (Dream and Fantasy) also have a cigar lounge.

Don;t feel too bad. My wife and I cruised on Celebrity this past summer and everything was great except for the fact that cigar smokers were treated like lepers and forced to smoke on the back of the ship on the top deck which wasn't too bad when docked but most nights while sailing it was like trying to smoke a cigar in a hurricane while cigarette smokers also had designated areas by the pool area and a couple other spot on the ship. No bueno as far as I am concerned.

I ran into the same thing on NCL's Dawn. The cigar smokers were in the minority in the lounge. On this ship, they put the cigar lounge right next to one of the biggest bars. I guess it's hard to avoid when they do that.

My first cruise was on a Carnival and it was set apart from other "nighttime" activities.

Carnival miracle had a great cigar lounge and you could smoke on the lido deck! Sorry you had a bad experience!

Last january I was on Princess Ruby, it had a nice longe and not a lot of cigarette smokers because it was attached to the casino and you could smoke in there. Going on the the Royal Caribben next year hope its as nice.

I'm going on a cruise with Princess (Ruby Princess) early next year. It was my understanding that you could smoke on your veranda? Can anyone let me know if this has changed?

We have a suite that is on the rear of the ship. Can anyone advise if this will cause me any issues as well? Thanks in advance, Dan

And to the OP I'm sorry things are going so poorly for you. Hope it gets better!

You sure can Dan, smoke on the veranda.
as for the rear suite if the seas get rough you might get bounced around a little more comparied to if you where at the center of the ship. I wouldn't worry to much about that though you'll have a great time:tu

Island Princess cigar lounge while small use to be a great place to enjoy cigars. Not so many years ago it had a full time steward from 6PM on.....now days it is but a shell of what it once was.

Currently their are a half a dozen people in the lounge all smoking their cigs + a women crocheting.

As far as smoking on one's balconey it all depends upon if your next door cabin puts up a stink.

I'm looking forward to getting back home to my own cigar room and spending time down at our Seattle cigar club, www.thevertigoclub.com

Some bars use to have signs posted that said "Please no cigar smoke".
Cigar bars should have signs that say "Please no cigarette smoke"

Sorry to hear it John, that is non-Giggity for sure. I am a fairly tolerate guy, but the ouster of Cigar and Pipe smokers in what are now defined as "cigarette only" areas baffles me to this day.

I will cut my rant though and wish you a speedy return from your vacation. Maybe you can slip a No Cigarette sign outside the entry on your way in, can at least buy you some time for a quickie.
