I saw in the recent JR's catalog that "The government of Nicaragua has passed a mandatory wage increase that will raise the price of every brand made in that country by approximately 13 percent - maybe even more"

Nothing wrong with people willing to work being paid more.

Just as that doesn't translate to higher cigar prices...

I'm all for these people earning more. They deserve it for all the great smokes I've had from there.

Either way its a good thing IMHO. At the least its not a tax raise that goes to who knows where.

Yeah, I think it would be a bit greedy on our end to object to that. Hell, all we have to do is clip and toast.

By the way, i'm currently smoking a fine nicaraguan double maduro house blend from a local B&M. I would gladly pay an extra $.50 for this. Absolutely delicious!

Lew Rothman is well known for his Chicken Little marketing tactics, they've been working for him for many decades now, so why change?

This sounds like a minimum wage increase, which can have an affect on the economy as a whole, but most floor employees of the major cigar factories are already paid above minimum wage, some very significantly above minimum wage. Supervisors, managers, etc even more so.

Not sure yet how this will all reflect in the prices.

Just passing it along for discussion. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, just saying if this is true it looks like prices will go up.

I thought you were referring to "Nicks" sticks by Perdomo........ I just ordered a fiver of their Robusto Maduro's. I wouldn't mind a slight price increase to keep with inflation, just as long as quality doesn't suffer.

Ehhh, ok....

Take this with a grain of salt when it comes to cigar prices, especially if you expecting an "immediate" increase, or any increase when it comes to this.

Nicaragua has really stepped up its cigar reputation in the past quarter century. It would be a shame for the industry to pack up and move to another country that has cheaper production costs and less rules - Isn't this what happened in the Canary Islands?
