Of the canned supermarket stuff, I think Eight O'clock coffee is fairly decent. I can't stand Folgers.

I love Folgers!

I dump out the coffee in the trash and use the can to pick up brass at the range.

Maxwell House or Folgers?

Thats like saying, "would you prefer jail rape or watching something with Debra Messing in it?"

LOL

Folgers gives me immediate and critical heartburn.
I drink Maxwell House Lite as a rule. Today Kerri made some kinda Starbucks African stuff. It was good, but I'd just as soon have Maxwell House. :tu

I drink Maxwell House on a daily/morning basis. I think most people make shitty drip coffee because of their coffee proportions, water and machine. I use good proportions, filtered water and a decent machine and get regular compliments on my coffee. It's just $5.99 Maxwell House. When I have time and am making coffee for ME, I grind fresh coffee and use one of my Moka Pots.

The Eight O'Clock Coffee is pretty good if you buy the whole beans and grind your own.

For a local brand in the south, some of the Community Coffee blends are decent and Luzianne makes a good medium roast.

If you're in the French Quarter though you have to go to Cafe du Monde and have some of their French Market Coffee.

Is the choice of these based on budget?
If so, check what coffee guru says are the top budget coffees (http://www.coffeereview.com/allreviews.cfm?cupdate=%7Bts%20%272008%2D10%2D06%2 000%3A00%3A00%27%7D)

Bunch of coffee snobs.

You want bad coffee? The worst coffee I ever had was anything every made on the icebreaker I was stationed on. The mess deck had these two huge coffee pots (5 gallons each, I think) and no matter how hard they tried to clean the pots or what coffee they used, it sucked and usually had like a 1/8 inch oil floating on top. I used to accuse the cooks of cleaning the pots with diesel fuel.

After drinking that stuff for two years, anything made in a clean pot tasted good. (With the exception of the perverse coffee/chickory crap they sell down here.)

If I must slum it, I go with CdM. I've been known to pack my own Bialetti and pre-ground coffee for long family trips where the expectation is Folgers, Maxwell, etc every morning. When I'm on vacation, I just can't do that to myself :r

Maxwell House or Folgers?

I'll take "What would I enjoy less than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick" for 500, Alex.

8 o'clock Columbian is OK for cheap coffee .. Yuban is better than either of those two noted above and can be had at WM reasonably priced although not as cheap as the other 2 noted above.

Why do you consider Yuban to be a good coffee. I might pick some up this weekend.

Oh, I didn't say it was good coffee, I said it was better than Folgers or Maxwell house :-). Lets put it this way, I can drink Yuban from a freshly opened can ... I find Folgers and Maxwell House to be terrible.

I like the old A&P Eight O'Clock whole bean coffee for a commercial roast but my favorite in a can coffee is without a doubt Hills Bros coffee. http://www.mzb-usa.com/store/images/thumbs/sm_hillsbros_decmediumroast.jpgI currently buy Cafe Don Pablo http://www.cafedonpablo.com/images/index_don_pablo_logo.jpgwhole bean coffee in a two pound bag at Costco Warehouse. :usa :D

I'll take either of those over the coffee at work. It's called McGregor's Gourmet Blend or somesuch. In other words, it's the Sav-A-Lot store brand. It's absolutely horrid. I watch security cameras in a dim, windowless room, so I drank it because the wretched stomach cramps it delivers almost instantly keep me awake. But it made me crap blood, so I decided drinking lots of water and holding my pee for hours was slightly preferrable. For a drink with over 500 carcinogens in every cup, I figure I might as well, at the very least, slightly enjoy it.

I can enjoy a cup of Folger's or Maxwell House purdy'd up with lots of cream n' sugar and made correctly in a fair-quality machine. McGregor taught me a valuable lesson in appreciating what you've got...

Of the canned supermarket stuff, I think Eight O'clock coffee is fairly decent. I can't stand Folgers.

I saw some show one time on PBS . . . "America's Test Kitchen" I believe was the name. They tested various coffees and 8 O'Clock came out on top I believe.

I saw that in the store the other day. I might need to try some

Awful just awful coffee when you buy it at the supermarket. For some reason, coffee in an actual Dunkin Donuts store is way better and has more flavor. The stuff at the supermarket is extremely bland and flavorless.

How ironic! I just picked up a pound of that today as it was coming out of the roaster. The bad was still warm and that was nice on this frigid day.

Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man" was on the radio as I pulled away....
