This is awesome news. I heard earlier today that this was going to be announced, and here it is. :D

******************************

2.7.11
February 7th, 2011 Thanks to you, our Surly fans, weíre celebrating five years of Surly Brewing. Weíve expanded our Brooklyn Center brewery as much as we can and brewed almost three million pints of beer in 2010, but youíre still thirsty, and we canít keep up. So, weíre excited to announce our plans for a new brewery. But this ainít just any brewery, it will be a destination brewery, worthy of our fans.

The new $20 million destination brewery will be a two-story, 60,000 square-foot building, complete with a roof deck beer garden, a 250-seat restaurant with mouth-watering view of our brewery, and a 30-foot bar.

The brewery is good for us, and great for Surly fans, but itíll also benefit our state by creating as many as 85 construction jobs to build it over nine months and 150 permanent Minnesota jobs, and offer a complete event center, for concerts, parties, business events, weddings, and more. Now thereís a reason to renew your vows.

Itís a big idea but itís not a done deal yet. We canít be licensed as a brewpub because we brew too much beer so Minnesota law currently says we canít sell beer in the new brewery. We are working with legislators right now in hopes of getting the law changed because a restaurant, bar and beer garden have to be a part of the new brewery. We may need your help soon, please keep checking our web page and our Twitter and Facebook pages for updates.

With the support of our fans and the great state of Minnesota, we can build this destination brewery and start cranking out 100,000 more barrels of Surly beer every yearómore than 850 percent more beer brewed than last year. Getting thirsty yet? Hell yeah you are!

Letís get more Surly!

Sweet Baby Jesus, this is good news. For those not fortunate enough to know what Surly is, you will have to trust me.
Now... put it in a cool place with a view. Down on the river, so we can herf it up, drink it up, and know that God loves us because he gave us good beer and tobacco.

That's awesome, hopefully they get wider distribution. I've yet to see a Surly brew anywhere near here.

Maybe they could use a chemist there, too. :D

Get on it.
As your "brother" I expect a family discount.

No openings as of right now. I'll keep watching the site. :) I've got ~10 months left here anyways. Timing might be good. LOL

Same here, not sure they ship east. When I put in any Virginia city on their webfinder, the map just brings up MN locations :D

At this time they are unable to meet demand within MN. They only distribute to the Twin Cities and parts of outstate MN. I've been told there is a three year waiting list for bars here in MN that want kegs. I think it will be a while before they sell to the east coast.

We get it at quite a few bars in Duluth.

I think the only Surly I've had so far is the Furious. On tap. I either drink that or Bell's Two Hearted when out down there.

Hopefully they expand distribution to Arizona.

I've heard tons of really good things about Surly, but have never tried one myself. With all the new beers coming south lately, maybe we see some Surly in the (hopefully near) future.

Any word on if they are planning to expand their distribution to other states?

Seeing as how I cannot find any list of where it is available besides Minnesota any chance they hit anywhere near the south yet? Been wanting to try Darkness and Abrasive Ale for quite a while.

Is it going to be just Chicago, or all of Illinois?

I am not sure, I recall that they deliver kegs to some Chicago bars, but perhaps they don't distribute cans there.
