Thanks to markem for letting everyone know that yesterday was Penguin Awareness day. It got me to thinking about some of the obscure "holidays" that I celebrate. For example, International Talk Like A Pirate Day. It occurs every year in mid-September, but I often miss out because it falls off my radar. The same goes for Anything Covered in Chocolate Day and a handful of other random yet delightful days set aside to celebrate some of my favorite things.

So here it is... a thread to help us all remember those unknown and often forgotten holidays and observances. Need an "excuse" to light up a stick you've been saving for a "special day"? My hope is that this thread will give us a daily reason to celebrate being on the right side of the dirt.

I think I will go out and hug a squirrel that is wearing a hat.

Absolutely, Pete!!

Personally, I'm excited to have a reason to wear my new hat. It'll keep me warm while I chase the furry lil bastages down and give them their hugs.

Can it be considered appreciation if I relocate a few squirrels far far far away. Like a vaca.

How about making a squirrel into a hat so you can really appreciate both?:D

It has just been brought to my attention that today is also Cheese Appreciation Day. As if hats, squirrels, and hugs weren't mayhem enough, throw in a wheel of Brie or a slice of Cheddar to further bring joy to your heart.

I was a slacker over the weekend, so I missed National Blonde Brownie Day and National Measure Your Feet Day. :(

Today's holiday is:
Compliment Day!

Tell your boss you like their tie. Tell your significant other they're smelling particularly pleasant. Tell your mail carrier you liked the way they handled that snarky terrier 3 houses down. Get out there, my lovely sisters and brothers of the leaf, and spread it on thick.

Oh and before I forget to tell you....

Here's a few that I'm trying to get national funding for;

Feb 12 - Ask a question for which you do not want an answer day.

March 18 - Limp handshake day.

April 22 - Write false entries on a Wikepedia page day.

June 8 - Only use the heel of bread on a sandwich day.

October 13 - Pretend you are running from monsters day.

Feb 14th should just become "buy me flowers, jewelry, and candy day". March 14th just gets straight to the point. :lr:lr:lr

I'm not arguing that point, just that one is dependent on the other. ;)
