I absolutely love me some blues. Most other things I like, music-wise, stem right out of the blues, or are by heavily influenced artists.
If the songs are about water, it's all that much better.

Here's one of my favorites, Johnny Hooker - Waterfront (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUVw2MpnrLk).
Whatta you got?

Well done, brother. :tu Try the old one, Hugh. Mississippi John Hurt - Since I've Laid My Burden Down. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEPpLfBWWeQ) It sounds a lot more like gospel/bluegrass, even though John Hurt is a bluesman.

Been listening to a lot of Slim Harpo lately. I love "I'm a King Bee".

Slim Harpo, "King Bee" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWLvm11MAaM)

Someone told me he recorded this song in an old gas station gas tank that had been dug up. They set up the recording equipment at the back of the tank and he played toward the front. You can totally hear it in the song, especially when the harmonica comes in toward the end.

Hey, we could name 'em all day long: Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGee, Taj Mahal, Charlie Musselwhite, Koko Taylor . . . and that's not even a good start.

But if you like your blues hot and electric, it's hard to beat that whitest of white men, Johnny Winter.

What I find fascinating about most of the guys whom I linked, is their backstory's. Some of them went to jail regularlly. In the case of Skip James he never got his full pay for his songs. And the stories go on and on.

One of my favorite tunes They're Red Hot (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOXXh24HnmY) from Robert Johnson. Lots of people have heard Clapton cover it on "Me and Mr Johnson". I did some cool shows during that gig, Eric, and quite a few of them in the Blues category.

I did get to meet Mr. Dixon. I also was on stage for Ray Charles, and literally "ran into" him before the show. Some of the other blues artists included Koko Taylor and Buddy Guy.

The rock shows were mostly college circuit and semi-local. Cool part was always getting invited to the ater-parties. Some of the bands were R.E.M., Psychedelic Furs, Cheap trick, Charlie Daniels, and other mid-level bands.

I've been a huge blues fan for many years. As anyone can tell you who has been here... if you come to a herf here you are in for a dose of the blues!!

I love lots of old school blues, delta blues, Chicago blues, newer artists and everything in between. Gotta give it to my Jacksonville Beach homeboys though... Derek Trucks and Eric Steckel.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSbcpLLadX0

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zrMRhfz8K0Y&feature=related

The first time I say Derek he was 15 and the first time I saw Eric he was 14. I have seen both a bunch since and look forward to their futures. As somebody else said... if you get a chance to see the current Allman Bros with Derek and Warren Haynes you should do it!!

I also have to post one of a good friend of mine that many may not have heard of Albert Castiglia. He was Junior Wells guitarist for a while and is a great "Cuban" blues man. If you are ever in south Florida you should look him up.
