I know some of use used it in the past, but it looks like most of the threads, especially the skype name thread, are a year or so old. Just wondering before I finally create an account (yea, I'm a little behind the times).

Thanks

I did use it for long distance at my house for a couple years, but recently changed my phone package to include unlimited long distance so I don't use it now.

My parents use it. Sound quality is OK.

I have Vonage and MagicJack and would recommend MagicJack if you are in need of low priced telephony.

lots of regular skype herfs have formed and since they are relatively stable for membership, I think that people have quit putting out the call. If you want to get one going, pick a time (specify timezone) and what skype name the person hosting will use and then go for it. Lots and lots of fun.

That's what I was wondering about...thanks!

I use it mostly for business, especially when traveling (it was great in Denmark). :tu

That is what I use the Vonage and MagicJack for. I send to Europe so I have a local tele and fax number. MagicJack requires a PC, Vonage does not. Sykpe I can hear the compression the most out of the three.

A skeeter once told me there are weekly skype herfs on Fridays. Not sure if that is still going.

I still use Skype and Google Voice, but I use Skype more. Unfortunately the last few times that I was on the only people I could chat with were Laura and Ferdie.

I'm sure if a few more people got on, it would become more active! :D

My wife and I use it all the time to talk to her sibs in NZ and parents Vanuatu. Long distance rates to Vanuatu are BRUTUAL ($1.50/min) and the video conf over Skype is the only way our nieces in NZ know who we are and recognize us. Try having long extended regular phone calls with toddlers without video, doesn't work well at all. We always expect them to be very confused when we show up without picture frames around our faces when we fly down to visit them.
