This whole project wouldn't be possible without the codes contributed by the members here. Every point donated, be it a single bottle cap code or a stack of box flaps, helps equally toward bringing a bit of comfort and relaxation to the troops.

A magazine doesn't sound like much, but things we take for granted, like a simple magazine, can mean so much to someone when they are 5000 miles away in the middle of nowhere and virtually cut off from media and the rest of the world. I'd never seen such well read magazines as those I saw during my time aboard ships.

The program has to be extended on a year by year basis, so we're good for the remainder of this year. Come October-November, they will decide if the program gets renewed for 2013.

Just a quick update on where we are at with this, we currently have 36 magazine subscriptions running plus any of the dozen or so "expired" that Hugh has chosen to renew or purchase through special offers.

Since we have so many subscriptions running now, in order to make management of these easier on Hugh and I, I'm currently stockpiling the points into the accounts, once the accounts hit max points in about another month, I'll be making a large number of subscription purchases all at once. Then repeating that pattern. This way we can have blocks of subscriptions expire at once, rather than 1-2-3 per month.

No problems with PM'ing codes, that's how almost everyone who donates does it. The worst that happens is that we get a misread of a letter or number and I can't use that one particular code. The occasional misread is a small price to pay because if everyone had to snail mail the codes to me, this really wouldn't be a feasible collection project. I don't have a problem with it though, basically whatever is simpler for people.

IIRC, the reason for the code pickup from you was that it was simpler for you to hand them to me at a herf or when I picked up my half of a box split from you, etc...

The rules for buying EW have changed a bit, I can no longer buy all 8-10 subscriptions at once, I have to spread them out over a few weeks, so we should have all 8 subs acquired by the end of the month.

And, while that might not sound like much, when you're out in the middle of nowhere, cut off from almost everyone, a simple magazine subscription linking you back to home can really be a big deal.

I just received an email from the program that states that it will be shutting down in the next few months. So no need to save or send any more codes, I have more back stocked than I can enter before the entry cutoff deadline.

I'd like to thank everyone who has helped out over the years. Your efforts were certainly appreciated by the troops.
