This is where I tend to hibernate when the wind somes sweeping down the plains and the temps. get too cool to enjoy a beer and a cigar on the patio! I call it my 'Gar Den Shed!
I'm in the process of putting up some paneling over the insulated walls, installing some electrical outlets, and building a bar, I mean, a "storage shelf" that is L shaped on two walls and merges into some shelving on the other wall.
It is only 10 x 12 but I have had as many as 4 guys in here and although it gets a bit smokey it's better than sitting out in the cold!

Thanks! I started building this this thing over two years ago but just couldn't bear to put junk in it! It has finally started to realize it's true calling!
It's got a couple of soffit vents, and the window can be opened a crack even when it is cold, so it is not too smokey. Maybe when I'm installing the fireplace and hot tub I can also add a new vent!! For now I'm on the lookout for some small leather rocker/recliners, or some comfortable bar stools!

LOL! I've got a good sized back yard. The slab/patio that the shed is on one corner of is 26' x 50', it was built as a sport court, but I converted it into a large patio, built some decking on part of it and had fake tile work sprayed into it with some kinda spray vinyl/cement concotion like they put around pools. I spend alot of time out there!

Are you going to install anything for heat? My garage is unheated, and although it beats a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, it can still get pretty chilly when the temp bottoms out. Something like your Gar Bar might be worth looking into. I'll loose some space but at least I could feel my toes.

I have a small electric heater in there and it takes off most of the chill. I still need a coat and my Harley blanket when it is really cold though! I was thinking about one of those table top propane heaters but I'd rather not worry about CO poisoning or burning the shed down!

I'm jealous. I use my garage in winter too, with an electric space heater. Problem is, I have to keep the garage door open or the aroma seeps into the adjacent family room. The aroma ain't welcome in there. :(

Nice... For a propane heater ,, look into the Mr. Heater Big Buddy,,runs off a BBQ tank and puts out 18,000 BTUs. It has a CO alarm,,if you open your window you shouldn't have any problems. People use these things in fish houses and they work great..

Extremely nice.
+1 on Jerry's idea for the Mr Heater. They can get a canvas fish house up to t-shirt weather on the inside even when it falls well below 0.

I got the "bar" roughed in this weekend, just have to decide what kind of material I want to top and finish it with. Also need to get some more paneling for one wall, thinking of using peg board. Here are some pics:

I am weighing my options ;)
I think I'll have better luck getting about 75% of the garage space to myself - then I'll just have to run a bit of the heater ducting (the heater is already out in the garage) and throw an ashtray on the workbench - done. No extra work needed.
If the weather was worse here I'd try to conquer the shack, but I think I'm gonna let the wife have it and I'll take the garage.

OK! Did some more work on the interior of the shed the last couple of weeks. I'm almost totally finished but still need to complete the wiring for the outlets and then finish up that last bit of paneling. But I finished my "bar" and got some decorations up and even have a small TV in there now! I had five guys in there last Sunday, for cigars, chili, and homebrew! Except for being a bit smokey it was pretty comfortable! Here are the latest pics!

great "shacks" I want to see more pics. It gives me ideas.
My garage is where I spend close to 90% of my time when I am at home.
It is my "Smoke Shack".
Actually I like to call it the last bar you can still smoke in in New Jersey and that smoking is actually promoted. 5 ashtrays, 30+ lighters, dart board, 42" flatscreen LCD HD, 21" monitor/Laptop, motorcycles, tools, Pub table and stools, chairs and 33,000 BTU's of heat when I need it (and when I have propane), and a state of the art security system.
and
The Bar is opened. all you have to do is stop by.

Very nice indeed! Do you not keep your humis in there? Does it simply get too cold/dry and you only heat it up when you go there to smoke?
okbrewer
12-02-2008, 10:41 AM
Yeah I only go out there to smoke when it is too cold or windy to sit comfortably out in the patio. I keep my cigars in the house in my converted wine coolers.
