View Full Version : I'm not a strong person . . .
. . . when it comes to my dogs. Losing TJ last year so suddenly and now, after taking Rusty (16 year old beagle) to the vets - we know this will be his last Christmas with us.
His kidneys are failing. He has a tumor around the artery that leads to the brain and another tumor that is dislocating his front leg. The vet has put him on pain pills and also treated an ear infection so he won't be in any pain now. The time has been scheduled for after the holidays but I haven't told my daughters the date yet - they just know after New Years.
Rusty was never the brightest apple in the bin - but he has always been loyal and loved.

That is the thing about dogs, there are hear for a short while but are good right from the start. They help us learn love, loyalty, and trust. When they leave we learn how to deal with loss and it helps us with what we experience in the future. Good luck with your dog and I hope he can remain happy and comfortable as long as possible.
I just wish we could take that lesson and apply it to our own elder human family members.
Take care brother and have a good Christmas tomorrow.

Never an easy thing to have to do, but the right thing. Prayers for healing the hurt.

Very sorry to hear this.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

So sorry, Ron... I understand your pain.
I also know you provided a good and loving home for a faithful companion who enjoyed a long life. You gave Rusty everything he could ever want. He was happy to be there with you. You did what was best for your furry friend.
Praying for peace and comfort for your home. It hurts so much, because you loved so much. That is always a good trade.
