Sparky Anderson, Hall of Fame manager and the first to guide teams to World Series victories in both leagues, has passed away at 76. Anderson, whose 2,194 wins are sixth all-time, dies of complications from dementia.

Sad....great manager....he was baseball in the 1970's...

Should have seen this coming, wasn't it just yesterday that we heard he deteriorated badly?

He was placed in Hospice care yesterday. It was only a matter of time. Pete went to visit him recently while he was in poor health and they had a long chat. Pete apologized personally to Sparky for betting and some other things. They both had a lot of respect for each other.

Sad hearing about this. I was only a kid when our hometown Tigers won it all in '84, but I'll never forget watching with my dad. Sparky was Tiger's baseball for my entire childhood and well into my teens. We will miss him.

BTW, I still don't get why #11 isn't retired in Detroit. It's a shame. Especially if they do it after he has passed.
