While I was very skeptical when I ordered this (I own two Palios and love them both...original Burlwood and a new Black). I also own a Xikar X1 (first cutter I ever bought). While not a big fan of the X1, I can tell you that the X8is a damn fine cutter for $24.99. Nice clean cut and extremely sharp. Sliced and diced a dog rocket to hell and back playing with the X8. It is a lot lighter than I anticipated and not as sturdy as a Palio...but this is one fine cutter boys. I am very pleased to have bought this and would recommend this to my friends. :tu :tu

Just my :2

Just a heads up...Xikar does not have a sheath for the X8 yet.

As requested...see, they have the same contour as the Palio (though not as curved).

Hmmmm this one looks good! Come X-mas I see a shiny X8 and the new V-cut in my future. Anyone know a site with a good price on the X-8 and V-cut from Xikar?

If only somebody could make a cutter where it folds down to make a regular cigar stand...then you'd have something. Thanks Mac, you will have to let us know how it holds up over time....give it to TBone, see if he can break it :r

The ZX is nice as well, but the X8 is a better bang for the buck as the ZX is significantly more expensive.

Xikar lists the genuine carbon fiber cutter at $99; however, it actually lists for between $75 and $85 most places. I got a really good deal on mine. ;)

Got both of mine yesterday. Checked the shipping online and it said it was delivered. So I ran out to the mailbox, who gets the mail on a Saturday anyway? Anyway, they both shipped super fast, shipped out next day, 2 days to get here. Got one for me and one for a Christmas Gift. I haven't cut a cigar yet with one but I can say that this being my first "quality" cutter, I am very impressed with the build quality, the blades are super sharp and I don't notice any gaps between them through the whole motion of a cut. Seems to be top notch.

Can't wait to use mine.

What abouyt it was "not as sturdy as a Palio"? Just wondering. I have seen more then one Pailo come apart when opening it up. I have the Xikar XV V-cutter and am looking forward to this one as well.

I can't say the same since I don't own a Palio, but mine is pretty darn sturdy, I can't imagine the Palio is any sturdier... My Xikar seems solid as a rock.

I have used Mac's X8. I think when he commented on "sturdy" what he ment is that is is a lot lighter, no heft to it. The couple of cuts I made with it were good. But it is a new cutter, let's see how it cuts after a couple of months use.

The dip that appears to be able to hold a cigar is not as big as it seems. I tried it and if the table gets a small bump it rolls/bounces out. It is not a secure place to place the cigar. I do like the heavier Palio feel beater.

So, for the $25 versus a black Palio for $35, that's the question. Both are reputable companies with warranties that can't be beat. If the X8 can keep an edge like the Palio it's gonna be hard to recommend the Palio for an additional $10. And if you like the Carbon fiber look/camo look, the Palio runs $47 and up versus the $25. The Palio has a slight edge in the holding of a cigar but as I never set mine there it is a moot point to me.

One could argue the Palio comes with a case, $10 worth.... personal opinion time. As I have lost my Palio, I am holding off on a new cutter until I can see how Mac's works out.

-----------------

edit - just saw the Monster deal - pulled the trigger on 2. At $15 ea, that becomes a good deal.

It's a Xikar, I think the blade will hold and I'm guessing like their other cutters, you can send it in for a free sharpening and cleaning any time.

Also, I know on the others they sent you a free case if you registered it on their website, hopefully they do that with this new one.

Thanks for the review and comparison.

I carried my Palio for two weeks while my other Xikar was getting serviced. I found it cumbersome in my pocket with all my other crap. I work long hours and I don't have an office just a box in the middle of a container field. I use my Palio at home and Xikar at work. This arrangement has worked out well for me.

Ahh, ok. What's funny is I found the Xikar to feel "heavier" as it was seemed more weight over a smaller space in my dress slacks. The Palio being longer seemed to distibute the weight better. The X8 may be worth taking a look at for you then.

Got mine a few days ago and used it last night and had a few others at the herf test it out. It definitely looks and feels cheaper than a Palio and even compared to the Xi I used to have. But, the cut was fantastic, actually smoother than Palio's I've used, although those Palio's are years old compared to the first cut here. Definitely worth the $15 I paid and I'd have a hard time deciding between the cheapest Palio or this for the price difference.

I bought a Palio about 2 months ago and it came apart; just separated while pulling it open. I know it's under warranty and just sent it back. I really loved that while it worked! Bought the X8 with this great deal and it's not as heavy but cuts great, especially the larger ring cigars. My wife doesn't understand my hobby at all and really doesn't understand why I need all the tools. Oh well, I don't understand why she needs so many dam#$# nick-nacks.

I've been using mine for a week now. Do I like it better then my Palio? No, but as of right now I like it as much as my Palio. Palio and Xikar make great cigar products with warranties and customer service second to none, so you really can't lose which ever cutter you choose. If it can stay sharp for over 6 years like my first Palio, then I may like it better, only time will tell.
