View Full Version : Seems like Pete did a good job with getting the Face out this year

They seem to be pretty easy to find and seems to have made most of the consumers who havent been able to get them in the years past able to find them pretty easy this year:tu

Yeah I have a few gripes but all in all....not bad. I can't speak for the previous years but to get my boxes I didn't go through too much of a hassle. Few phone calls and a list.... There was some BS with certain retailers jacking their prices up. Uptowns in Nashville did me right though. The next day after the event they called in the order of the list and didn't charge me more. :tu

I have nothing negative to say. I think for a limited release many people got a chance to get at least one. And the 10 count boxes are still flowing in. Pete really does his best to remember us and still not become jaded by flooding the market with sub-par product:tu

Are there places selling 5ers? Don't want a box, just a few...a new week is coming up and cigar funds are about to be replenished :)

Just keep watching the boards in the next week or so, I'm sure you will have no problem getting some from other BOTLs :tu

Wonder if the waste of skin from last year will be back. Forget the username, but he was asking triple retail for the Dracs (IIRC) because that was a reasonable price for the "secondary market."

:tpd: Hard to cough up the cash when I don't even know if I would enjoy it at all. Waiting to get my hands on 1 or 2.
Though I will agree that there seem to be plenty available this year.

seems to have gone much smoother than last year, and the dress boxes not being full of paint fumes was a plus for people too

Whats wrong with someone charging what they feel a product they own is worth? If you don't like capitalism, I'm sure there's a country in Europe you could move to.
Someone will only pay what they feel a product is worth. If someone bought one at triple the retail price, then that's what they felt the product was worth. In a capitalistic economic situation, it is impossible for someone to be "ripped off".

I agree with this point, but that doesn't make someone less of a douche for trying to triple-key a retail product :)

Errrr.... nope? We might have socialism, but it's Capitalist socialism. Even Russia got rid of the communists. I'll let you off this time, but I'll remind you that over here in Europe, when someone makes a stupid comment, we ask them when they're moving to the US. :tu

Got any stocks that you'll sell me at your cost even though it's going for 2-3X that? Or do you pull the trigger at what the going market rate is?

There's no price policing here. If you don't like something at a particular price, don't buy. It's that simple.

Well, you can call it whatever you want, that doesn't make it true. You can keep your cradle to grave welfare state and associated riots, and I'll enjoy being responsible for my own decisions in life.

True, but most members aren't jacking up prices either. Quite the contrary, most WTS threads are at or in some cases well below retail.

Cool story bro.
But we're talking about OUR community and cigars, not the stock market. I see what you're getting it, but you are looking at this as cigars for profit. We all go to whatever retailer we want for that in order to take care of that end of this market
When it comes to OUR community, there is the unwritten law of the Brotherhood. It's why we call each other BOTLs. Generally speaking we don't buy up supplies of cigars and then come here to try and Gordon Gecko our Brothers.
So selling cigars to our Brothers and selling stocks is Apples to Oranges.

In a lot of cases, people price below retail because that's what it takes to sell something. I don't know about you, but it's very rare for me to pay retail on any cigars. I can buy a lot of cigars for 20-30% below retail on virtually any regular production cigar out there. On the other hand, items of limited quantities will have higher demand, thus the price goes up.
I'm not going to play this game with all of these limited edition cigars. I'm not convinced these cigars are necessarily any better than any regular production cigars and refuse to participate in the whole waiting list or 1 cigar per person type of limit. Thus, whether it's Pete Johnson or anyone else, they can use their marketing to sucker in a lot of other people just because they make something of limited quantities with a cool looking box.

I'm not looking at it from just a profit standpoint. I'm just commenting that there are people (not saying this applies to anyone here) who like to sit on the sidelines and are only interested in something once demand is high and supply is gone. They just want to complain that they can't get in the game at the original price when everyone else went through the hassle trying to find their own stash.
I don't begrudge anyone for making a buck. If it's not a price I'm willing to pay, I just move on. What about the fools who participate in the black Friday sales and stand in line all night long to get some door buster price? Should I complain that I don't get the same price when I slept in until noon?
It's all about perceived value as well. If I buy a box of these cigars for $150 or whatever, maybe I really want to keep them, but for the right price, I might let them go. Remember-EVERYTHING is for sale.

I should have complained when I was at Corona last month and saw the pre-embargo habanos for $150-$200. There's no way they paid that much for them 50 years ago. :r

Agreed, but in my case it's because I'd rather not find a cigar I love, then not be able to get my hands on any more.
Having said that, it does seem like PJ did a good job of addressing issues from the last two years. The Faces seem to be much more readily available than the previous sticks.

Exactly. When people complain about seeing a higher price, sometimes they fail to understand that the person listing the cigars paid more than MSRP and may live in a state with much higher taxes than where they live. All of those things need to be considered.

Ok gents lets bring it back on topic of why I started the thread once again I think Pete made enough to go around this time and fairly easy to get and that was the intent of the thread not what others will do with it once they get it. I know he caught a lot of crap over the last two years and it is great to see he did listen to all the BOTL and I think came up with a good solution.

So I didn't actually read through the thread but last nigt I smoked a Face thanks to Matt N GA and I have to say I enjoyed it, a lot. Is it worth the hassle, not sure, but if I had staked a place out and spent the cash I would not have regretted it due to the fact that they were tasty. Were they the best cigar ever, no. Were they better than some other special releases, yes.

They have them for a lot more than that too.
I remember a bunch of home builders on a convention a few years ago buying rounds of pre-embargos for clients on their company's coin. That was pre-recession 2008 though and you don't see that as often with home builders.
I walked right past the Face last week and grabbed a maduro Cabaiguan instead probably because I'm afraid of the Face and I know I love Cabaiguans.
Does that make me a capitalist socialist?
