Its developer, Claudio Torghele, says the machine has proved popular in trials in two Italian regions, but gourmets say it is an affront to traditional methods of cooking the classic dish.

At present it offers four toppings -- cheese and tomato, bacon, ham and fresh vegetables -- at an average cost of 4 euros. Torghele thinks "Let's Pizza" will appeal to Europeans looking for cheap options as a recession hits their pockets. "If I want to eat a great pizza, I go to a pizzeria. But our product is satisfactory, low cost and available 24-hours a day," he said. "This is crisis proof ... McDonald's is increasing its sales. Low cost, fast food is in demand."

I found "If I want to eat a great pizza, I go to a pizzeria. But our product is satisfactory," to be kind of humorous.

If the choice is a gas station roller dog or a pizza machine, what do you do?
At least you know the zit faced cashier kid hasn't sneezed on your pizza, right?
Okay, so maybe the ingredients he/she/it loaded into the machine were slimed...

Not really sure that's a fair comparison. McDonald's or one of the refrigerated vending machines loaded with sandwiches and/or things you toss in the microwave next to it might be a better comparison.

Regardless, I never panned the machine, in fact, from a mechanical automation standpoint, it's genius. I just found the inventor's comments funny in a pragmatic way. And yes, I would drop the 4-5 Euros to try a pizza out of one of these machines, even if just to say that I had.

This was my exact thought as well. But at $32,000 for the machine not to mention all the red tape of providing a product you eat to the masses in the USA, it might take a while to re-coup that money.

I have seen a few sites with homemade backyard pizza ovens..... and they look AWESOME.
I would like to build one here, if I ever decide to make my generic damn ugly ass backyard and patio a usable space.

I did a double take when I was TDY at Ramstein one year, I walked by a soda machine and saw
Budweiser's logo. I thought, now I have seen everything, as I put 50 cents into the machine.

Growing up in Japan, beer and cigarette vending machines were virtually at every street corner.

Budweiser? If that's the case you should hit the button and it should give you your beer and at least $2 for your trouble.:r
