Pete,
What also cracks me up is the failure by folks to see that ALL teams buy their wins. That is the case by virtue of the fact that NO player plays for free. They all earn a salary to play and to win.

Where did folks go wrong and lose sight that if you pay a player $1 and you win, you bought that win for $1.
If you pay $1 Million and win, it just cost you more to win.
If you are willing to pay more to win, and if you lose, you just go ahead and spend yet more to win next time, how is that so bad from the guy that still thinks he can win for $1 and is not?

Man, it is just such a great feeling to be a Yankees fan since the late 60's.
So much joy has been brought to my life for so many years.
So many years of not having to say, "NEXT YEAR".
So many years of not being upset of spending so much money to try to win again.

It's getting harder to argue that the smaller clubs don't have the coin to compete.
After the Marlins and Bucs had their $49 million and $30 Million in profits leaked this year,
one has to wonder what a little reinvestment in the clubs would have done for them, both in the standings and future earnings.

Wait a second Carlos.

So, what you're telling me is that the days of a professional athlete playing his entire career for the same team are over and it's all about money now!!!!????

I'll never get tired of being a Yankee fan and still get emotional this time of year remembering my Dad taking me from his office in Newark to see the Yankees in the 70's and watching guys like Thurman Munson taking batting practice and hoping the Son of Sam didn't get us on our way back to the car.

I miss my Dad every day but feel like he's on the couch with me every time I hear Sinatra playing and another trophy is hoisted.

Not many of the Yankees haters even know what I'm talking about due to the fact it's called a tradition of winning. I'd probably be the same if I had to watch a different team lose year after year. The Yankees could loan them a dozen rings and still have one left over for each finger of their own and a few leftovers.

I'm a bit sad that we're seeing the core guys like Posada, Mo, and even to a lesser extent Jeter, age before our eyes but know there's still plenty of money left over from George to keep "buying" enough championships for me to probable see #30 before I'm as old as Carlos is right now.:D

When you mention Thurman Munson, I get goose bumps.
I remember so vividly, as if yesterday, in the mid 70's when Yankee Stadium was being renovated and they were playing at Shea.
I would go over to the bullpen by right field, on the lower section, and talk to Thurman Munson as he caught some practice balls from the pitcher.
Gave me a ball and all. He was such a great human being and such a huge loss of life so early.

To this day, I still get chills when I see and walk into Yankee Stadium.
I visited the new stadium last year and was there again this year.
I think it is an annual trip must do for me now.

Now, all that said, although a die hard Yankees fan, I am glad for Texas and Nolan Ryan. I hope we beat him but if we lose, no hard feelings.

Heck, my season is a win win already. As long as Boston is not in the playoffs, I don't care if the Yankees win more than one game in the whole season.:r

BTW,
I too hope to be around for #30.

I get goosebumps every time I see my little brother's cast that Thurman Munson signed after my brother broke his arm when he was like 5.

However, I sure hope I get a chance to be pissed that this hat is obsolete.
I hope I get the chance to have to make a decision to either replace it with a new one or can find a person to stitch that 7 into an 8.
Only way I can assure that for myself is for Texas to fall.;s

Well, if you want to get technical, Theo Epstein had a shot at Tex and let A-Rod go for a total difference of about a million from what the Yankees got him for....

Quite painful indeed.

2nd on my "butt hurts" list is that seventh WS game against the Diamondbacks.
Man that one hurts almost as much, though not nearly.

3rd would be the Marlins. The freaking Marlins. Freaking fish that nobody goes to see other than in a World Series and they win. Freaking Beckett. Maricon!!!

I think I have some unresolved issues.:r:r:r

I'm actually enjoying baseball again for the first time since I was a kid. I'll freely admit this makes me a fair weather fan, but after the strike, the scandals, and factor in the time required to actually watch a freaking game, I had pretty much given up on baseball. Now, I'm excited about it again. And I think that's pretty cool. So I hope they don't blow it :)

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! And to quote Scotty from Search For Spock, "Yes. And if my grandmother had wheels, she'd be a wagon."

Yankees in 6 games. CC wins Game 1, Andy pitches a close one against Lee in Game 2 but loses, Hughes goes 6 great innings in Game 3 then lets the bullpen finish it, AJ gets hammered in Game 4, CC takes Game 5, then Pettitte does what he does and slams the door in Game 6. Mark it down. ;)

Not sure why a lot of yankee fans are so quick to place Cliff's balls firmly in their mouth?
Yes, he's pitching great, but the yanks can beat him!
There was some talk locally that people wanted Burnett to start gm 3 because we were going to lose any way.
This is a yankee team that has scored career high run totals of some of the best pitchers in the game
Santana - 9
Halladay - 7
Price - 6
They also scored 5 runs off Lee this year and came all the way back to beat him!
Plus we got Andy going, and he's a better pitcher now than at any point in his career.
He's much smarter and tougher, doesn't try to overpower hitters, and isn't afraid to lose.

Enough Rambling

Go Yankees!!!

MedicCook

Cliff Lee has always pitched great in NY. If the Yankees are clicking they can beat any pitcher in baseball. The problem is the offense is still not clicking the way it should be. Other than the 8th inning in game 1 they have not been getting the runner in from scoring position. This has been a problem since August. To win game 3 they really need Gardner to be able to get on and cause some disturbance on the bases. With Andy I just hope he pitches like he did against the Twins.

Texas hits the ball better late in games. And once they get a couple guys on base, they'll chew up Yankee relievers.

If anything, the Yankees will lose this series in New York. 4-1. That first game was literally a fluke. Texas is the better ballclub, pretty much all areas considered.

Kinda poetic. Texas comes into their house and sticks to the all the guys who left for greener pastures. And by greener pastures I mean, money. :D

Maybe A-Rod and Texeira can cry together after today.

And as I stated a few pages back, that late comeback in Game 1 was a devestating loss, but it was a fluke. The Rangers have hit better late in the game, pitched better, run bases better and overall outplayed the Yankees in this series.

I think it's pretty safe to the say that either NL team wouldn't beat the Rangers. The Phillies are hitting horribly at the moment.

Not so fast buddy! :)

And I just have to add a snippet from another thread...

As a Yankees fan, I am genuinely concerned.

I am concerned because last year, I bought a great Yankees hat while in NY that had all 27 championships on it.
Then, as I was leaving the hotel, I lost it.

This year, I go back to NY and I find the hat all over again and I buy it once again.

Why concerned? After seeking this hat out so much, what the hell will I do with it when the Yankees now win #28?

I guess I will have to plan another trip back for this updated version or stitch my own 2010 on it.

Carlos, good news!!! You can keep the hat in its original condition! ;) :=:

Truthfully, I was hoping for a rematch of last year's series. Hopefully the Phils can go on a three game win streak and meet the Rangers. A long road to hoe, but one game at a time. Tommorrow will hopefully be great, and I'll be there to "Let. Them. Have. It." :)
