I was watching the tower style humidors over on cbid and I came across a deal I couldn't refuse... I ended up with this (http://www.cigarsinternational.com/proddisp.asp?item=M-VH3000-DS) humidor delivered cheaper than it costs to purchase it... so its being delivered tomorrow, while I won't be home, my wife will (yes she's ok with it... she even suggested it be put in our dining room as it matches the furniture). My question becomes, does anyone else have anything similar and what tips or tricks for humidity are you using (i.e. oust fans... 2 lbs of beads...etc, weatherstrip the doors....) Thanks for the help in advance!

I have the Tower of Power off CBid. I originally had the Humicare XL (Hydra LG copy) humidification device which I used to season it and then had in for the first couple of months. It wouldn't keep a steady humidity level. Since I've moved it to the basement and switched to 2lbs of Shilala's beads, no other humdifier device has been needed. Rock solid at 67%. I have 1/2lb bags spread through the shelves and drawers. I may have to put the Humicare back in once winter hits and the furnace is kicked on. We'll see.

Steve. Where you been Brother? Great looking tower. Only tip, don rush the seasoning. Give it some time, be patient. In that time figure out what your gonna store and where.

Then fill her up and take some pics!

Hiding... busy as hell with work and my wife's grandparents both passed away within 10 days of each other.... The filling her up will be a marathon not a sprint... it'll just be nice not to have dig everything out of the cooler to find a stick :D

That's terrible about your wifes grandparents. I hope everything went as smooth as possible for your family and hers.

I hear ya on the cooler. That is my biggest and most annoying problem, digging something out of one of the coolers.

I wish you the best of luck with your latest purchase!

Hey dom, I see that the LG has the ability to add additional fans... does it have a plug for more than one additional fan... (I'm also into computers so I have some fans lying around the house)?

jonumberone

You need the kit which comes with one fan
You can add 2 additional fans (for 3 total) after the kit
They use the 3 pin molex motherboard connection not the 4 pin PS type

Right now, $249 from CBid, which is up from the $189 I paid last year.

Yeah $249, but make sure to specifically state you need a liftgate when conversing with the seller b/c they wanted my wife to help unload it when it arrived on a semi.... I simply laughed and told them no way and that if they didnt deliver it where the only involvement my wife had was to make sure it wasnt damaged, I would tell her to refuse delivery.

Yup, they didn't even say anything.. the shipper said something about with their account discount it would only cost them an extra dollar for it. What happened to the walk-in eric? When are we starting that ;)

Well they would have lost the sale if they hadn't delivered it with a lift gate b/c there is nothing that states that I would have to help them off-load a 235 lb humidor off a semi-trailer in the $249 delivery charge! C'mon for that much the LEAST they could do is get it to my garage... I'll have some buddies over this weekend to man handle into the dining room, if the delivery guy won't... told my wife to slip him a $20 if he does.

Don't get it...So was the total $500? or did you not have to pay shipping? Not sure the walk-in will work where I want to put it...may end up doing something else.

Its not as heavy as they claim it to be. I moved mine by myself and Ian and I had no problems moving his quite swiftly. If it isn't already there, make sure your wife opens the box and checks the glass before its off the truck, once she signs for it, no recourse for you. :tu

I think I only paid $125 for shipping on mine, although that was quite some time ago.

24 hour rule. If she doesn't notice the purchase within 24 hours, she can't be mad about it.

So the wifey called me and told me this has been delivered... all is well in the glass front world and it doesnt appear to have any nicks/scratches/dings on it. When I get home from Jungle, I'll get some pics of this in my dining room... she told me a nice old man delivered into my hallway and that her and I will position it when I get home... she did say that I misled her as to the size of the humidor... she expected knee high, not taller than her, and I simply laughed and said, welp we can return it but its cheaper to keep it at the return shipping cost :D!

After starting to get it seasoned I realized that I tend to keep my house rather warm and the humi is at about 73-75 rather than the 70 i normally aim for...should I be concerned and if so I'll just move it into the basement which is keeping the other humis at just about 70... Any guidance would be appreciated.

I'm hoping the other Brothers will chime in but without temperature controls, your humi should take to your room temp, Steve. So unless you want to lower the temp in the house, I think your destined to stay acclimated to the room.

If you are keeping NC's then 73-75 should be fine. For CC's you are safe as long as it does not get any warmer. Otherwise you might consider freezing your CC's to make sure that any beetle eggs are destroyed.

I have a large half-empty freezer and I may just take to freezing. I really like the ability to have it sitting out as an actual piece of nice furniture... It never even occurred to me that I keep my house warm in the summer and cold in the winter... I'm mainly worried about the summer months because I tend to keep the a/c pretty high to cut back on the 350/month electric bill... I'll have to go freshen up on the freezing techniques.
