I started looking for a decent small pipe rack for my pipe(s). I saw them from $30 and up... I thought to myself "thats crazy! I can build that for less." And so I did.
This is my first go at it and it turned out pretty good. Used no nails, holds 4 pipes, sturdy. I can/was going to use oak, but for my first try I figured to use clear pine. I will stain it tomorrow and add some felt for the stem holders.
I emailed a few friends, who smoke pipes, the pics, and they want one now.... looks like I have another few projects to add to the list. But I don't mind... keeps my wandering mind busy.

That's nice! I been thinking about building one. I am really tired of my pipes lying around on the desk. Thanks for the encouragement!

For clear pine...... I can do for about $20-30+shipping depending upon how many pipes you want to hold and if you want it stained or not.
For all Oak, itd be slightly higher.
These aren't "professional" made mind you (there are a few minor flaws). But they get the job done. Simply and effectively. And for way less than they are to buy online.
I made three racks today. Staining and finishing up tomorrow or the weekend.
I am in the process of trying out a double stack rack design for more storage.......

What's the length on say a 4 or 5 pipe holder be? I'd like to see some of the finished product.

A four pipe is about 9.5" and a 5 would be around 11" wide.
I am staining the three I got in progress, and then adding some felt to the stem rest. When I get them completed I'll post some pics.
A double decker rack is still in the works. Maybe down the line I will make one with a small drawer to hold accessories.
I am using a dark stain on the three for my friends, and personally, I like the natural wood tones, and will probly just put a clear coat on my personal one.

Looks great, and alot better than what I built. Are you going to use any kind of fabric to line where the pipes touch? Good glue to hold fabric or pig skin which is what I used is E6000. Elmers glue makes it.

Yes, I am going to venture into a craft store the next few days and find some felt or mybe something else that catches my eye.
Thanks for the tip in the glue.

Here are a few finished products
The rack I first showed was my first one and will be my personal rack. I have not done any finishing work to it. But I made three for fellow friends in trade of some cigars and here is what I came up with.
The E6000 glue worked great! Thanks cornbread556!
They are nothing all too fancy, but get the job done! I am happy with the outcome. There are a few rough edges here n there I missed, but overall pretty decent considering they are my first tries.

Yeh, these are made of clear pine. A cherry or oak would look nice.
I have one thats going to be mine that I am deciding upon the stain choice still.
