Hello everyone. I just came in from smoking the first cigar from the gift pack I was sent. It was a 5 Vegas Gold. I will say this up front, so feel free to laugh....I feel high. It took me an hour to smoke it while listening to my audiobook. I used the Ronson Jetlite to ignite it. Now I do not have depth perception and to me it seems that with the lighter a couple of inches away you have like the "beam of heat" that it shoots out at the cigar. I toasted the wrapper while turning the cigar and I saw it glow, then I lit the filler and lightly blew on the end and I had a perfect round and lite cigar. I tok my first puff once it was lit. I enjoyed it very much. I am not sure why I feel a bit high from it. I do not smoke cigs and I have never been drunk, so maybe I am not use to this? :) It was very nice and relaxing. My wife took two pics with her cell phone, so here they are. Thanks for breaking me in. My goal is to enjoy this hobby, not to become a "chain cigar smoker. :)

As it should be, for many of us a great cigar is a cathartic experience, it's an awesome way to relax and escape

My goal is to enjoy this hobby
And I think that should be everyone's goal :tu Enjoy your ride down the slippery slope!

Brother you look green as hell in the first pic. You didn't :pu did you?

Congrats! Cigar chain smokers still enjoy their cigars, they just enjoy a lot more than most!

No, I did not hurl, I just was not aware wifey was taking a pic. That is my eyesite, did not know she was where she was, nope no hurling, that was a "lost in thought" look. :) I have college tomorrow and I have not been there in 10 years, plus I am helping my cousin who was in the hospital so my mind was running. :)

LOL on the propane tank, I forgot it was there. Too funny. :) Sugar you say? Interesting. So that is the "smokers high" you hear about? It kinda sucks to be honest, take that away and the experience was very nice. I already have poor eyesite so I do not need to make it worse by being buzzed too. LOL :) WEEEEE I enjoyed the flavor and the (to me) large ring size. I found myself with my mind wandering and getting a little bored near the end, so maybe a shorter smoke with that large ring gauge?

That was out back of the bedroom on a small porch. That propane tank is the one for the kitchen stove. I will add that I sat there for the light, but I moved to the other end of the porch while smoking the cigar to get that light from my eyes and sit in the dark while listening to my audiobook. I did not smoke that cigar long sitting there and did not remove any ash. :)

Don't feel bad about "gettin' high" lol. I'm smoking what I would normally consider a pretty light cigar and I feel a bit light myself. Of course, this is only my second cigar in I dunno how long, it's hot, and I've had a couple choice beverages.....:D

Sugar you say? Interesting. So that is the "smokers high" you hear about?

dark chocolate, straight sugar or sugar water helps. I like to have a coke when I notice it starting to hit me

You learn something new every day. Sugar, who'da thunk it. I can not smoke indoors because I live with others, so that is out. Smoking that cigar in an 11x14 size room would be interesting because with the amount of smoke that thing puts off you would end up setting off the alarm system fire alarm. LOL :) So that was a medium-ish bodied cigar then?

4WheelVFR
08-18-2010, 09:47 PM
I would say that is definitely a medium bodied cigar.....at least based on the few that I've smoked.

Maybe I will try something in a mild next time and work up to a medium, you know start slow. :) It was an enjoyable smoke.

To help with the buzz I find that having a can of soda like Coke or 7up can help make you feel better if you think you feel sick from it.

I haven't had to have one in awhile, but when I first started smoking cigars, a big churchill or a 6"x60 would do me in pretty badly lol.

Jelly beans are good with the Erin go Bragh irish whiskey. I'm not fond of flavored cigars, the the jelly beans made it palateable.

Congrats on your first cigar! If you find yourself getting bored, smoke with a friend, read a book or magazine (a little more interactive than listening to one), or watch tv/play video games. There are people whom setup the garage with tvs, laptops, game counsels, and whatnot to entertain themselfs while smoking.

Great idea, I will try some of that. I listen to an audiobook because of my eyes, they do not allow me to read normal print. I can not smoke in the house because I live with others. So I just will make the best of what I have and still have fun. :)

Good advice. When I smoke, I sit outside with my laptop and surf the web, play flash games, ect.. Smoking alone can be very boring without a friend, so finding ways to entertain yourself is key.

Nice! I'm glad you found this place so early in your hobby, it's a source of information I wish I had had starting out. These guys will have you smoking the good stuff in no time;)
And don't worry about the nicotine "high," as long as you gradually ease into the fuller bodied smokes and smoke every couple of weeks your body get's used to processing the nicotine. Just smoke slowyl, on a full stomach, stay hydrated and keep a snack nearby and you'll be fine!

Light, mediem, strong - spice or no spice, nis or no nic, etc. It's all relative to the individual. Stuff that I find "strong", others find to be a light "snack". When someone is making a recommendation to you as to strength (nic), spice, light or full bodied, you have to know their smoking profile for the most part.

Some people report on a cigars characteristics based on their exp versus the cigar against the rest of the field. It helps to know from what basis they are starting from. My :2.

I personally love to smoke with friends, whether they smoke as well or not. If the other people you live with don't mind the smoke, see if they will sit out there with you, have a drink or two, to me theres nothing like having good company and a good smoke at the same time :)
