I've been asking around and a few people said you can smoke cigars in the casinos and others say no. Which is it. I am hoping I can or I will be a little disappointed.

Smoking is allowed only in certain sections of the casinos, bars, and lounges. Which hotel are you staying at?

I've heard no very recently. You can if you come to Northeast, PA.

Mount Airy and Mohegan Sun.

We aren't sure if we are staying the night because we will be staying in Ocean city which isn't too far. As of now we are planning on driving there and back.

Any recommendations on a hotel?

Nevermind. It was mis-reported in my local newspaper.

Can't go wrong with the Borgata though it's off the Boardwalk closer to the bay and$
Best spot on BW is Caesars IMO. Trop went thru a renovation a few years back and has an old Havana theme
there is also a sheraton across from the convention center, no casino tho only a 5 min walk and rates are reasonable
Stay away from Resorts Very Very dated

+1 for the Borgata, I've smoked cigars throughout and never had any issues.

IIRC smoking is no longer permitted in the casinos. There was
a big stink about it a year or two ago.
I smoked outside on the boardwalk when I was there last year.

Ocean City is so close to AC that you won't need a hotel.

The Borgata is the most popular casino, but it's not on the boardwalk.

The beach in AC is among the best. Go to Wildwood for a day, too.

I can say with reasonable certainty that smoking is permitted on portions of the casino floor only (only reasonable certainty as I haven't been for a month or two). No restaurants, bars, lounges, etc. allow smoking EXCEPT those that both 1) are on the casino floor and 2) have gambling in the bar itself (table games or video terminals). You don't have to play at those bars to smoke, but if you do play, the drinks are complimentary as they are on the floor. If I recall correctly, Borgata, Harrah's, and Tropicana all have these bars on the floor where you can smoke. Some of them are quite nice with HD TVs to catch whatever games are on the tube.

You can also smoke cigars while playing on the more traditional casino floor (in the smoking section of course), but if you play table games, expect some eyes being rolled your way. I've found the bars to be not only a more accepting spot, but actually a nice, relaxing, comfortable setting...almost catering to the cigar smoker...but not quite. They are quite accepting though. :) Oh..and the poker rooms that I've been to are all completely non-smoking. I'm sure other casinos have similar bar areas...I'm pretty sure Taj Majal has one.

Good luck!

And, IMHO AC's beach is okay, but OC's beach is better if you are toward the southern end of the island. Make sure you take your favorite adult beverages with you to OC, as they have a "blue law" outlawing all alcohol sales on the island. There's a B&M on 34th St (and West I think) called "Churchills". It's small and pricey, but the people are nice. There is a small coupon book available in most retail locations (about 3" x 6") that has a coupon for Churchills if you buy a certain amount (I think 10% or 20% off if you buy 4 sticks). Might want to check it out if you're looking for something HTF as I found ESGs there close to MSRP and with the coupon factored in below Holt's price. There's also a B&M near 9th St. (on Asbury maybe?) but I've never gone in.

If you have any questions, let me know...I know the casinos and the Jersey beaches south of AC pretty well. :)

I appreciate all the help. The reason I ask about this is because I'm not a huge gambler and I am sure I will be done with gambling before a few of my friends that I am going with.

I will bring one to the casino and hit up the bar to light it up. I am excited to go....I've never been to Ocean city or AC before!

Glad to help. :) Hopefully your friends choose a casino with an on-floor bar. :tu Have fun!
