The fine print of the Blackberry Storm NYC Giveaway states the following:

"A BlackBerry® Storm™ 9500 Smartphone and a $50 Verizon Wireless gift card Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”): *$549 each."

So my guess is that if you want to buy the phone with no contract it will cost you $500.
With a contract is would be considerably less than that.

Yup... the current buzz is that it will be around $149 or $99 with a contract. Vodafone in england is giving them away with a contract and vodafone is verizon's European partner. So there is some speculation about them being free...

As long as they are $149 or less, I will sign with Verizon, ditch tmobile and have a new storm to play with! :D

The only thing I cant STAND about Vzw is how they lock down their phones. Thats a huge mark against them for me. I know that on some phones there are workarounds, but I'd rather go with something that doesn't mind giving me some freedom.

I just picked up the new G1 after years with Blackberry. I was using it as my backup phone, but after 12 hours, I called up Tmo and told them to drop my Blackberry as I was convinved the G1 was good enough for me. It gets better and better every day and best of all the apps are free.

I remember those days where I thought I needed the most current piece of gadgetry of communication and would be glued to it like it was a colostomy bag, which it felt like after a couple of weeks. There was nowhere I could go to get peace and quiet and now you can be buzzed, tickled, beeped, emailed anytime of the night or day and your whole life revolves around these things. Glad I am retired and not having to deal with being in communication at all waking hours of the day. I wonder if anyone knows what it's like to relax and not have to be texting, calling, surfing all the time?

official date and official pricing:

Available November 21st everywhere (online and in stores)
199.00 after a $50.00 mail-in rebate with a 2 year contract

great pricing, but i decided to go with the bold and ATT this weekend. i think Verizon is just as good, but my experience with ATT and the service i get in the VA/DC area is fantastic. plus the Bold is just gorgeous and i wanna play around with it for awhile. but once the Storm comes to AT&T i'll definitely get it :tu

i hear ya, hopefully my free storm shows up in the next few days and i will be able to give an opinion of it. i generally stick to PDA's on our system as they are usually the least controlled by VZW. soon it won't matter though as they will be doing any compatible device on our system.

I used to work at RIM and still have many friends that work there. I've used the Storm and have a Bold right now. I like the large screen and slick interface of the storm, but I type often and fast with my Blackberry, and the storms screen just doesn't allow of the kind of email volume I have. I typically type about 50-100 emails a day from my BB and I found the click screen difficult to type on at speed. Better than an iPhone, but not the same as a dedicated keyboard.

Bottom line, if I didn't type lots of email I'd get the Storm. The screen is sexy and interface slick, but because I'm an email fiend, I need a keyboard and the Bold works great.

Keep me posted too please! I've had a Treo 700p (actually my 2nd) after going through 4 sh!tty Treo 650p's, all in a 2-year span. So many problems with the Treo but I like the funcionality a lot so I've stayed with it. My current 700p is 'okay' but it often sticks & I have to wait for long period of times to get it to unfreeze (happens a lot when texting, I've noticed).

I'm with Dustin (LasciviousXXX)....VZ coverage is great near me and I abhore AT&T. I almost pulled the trigger on the Blackberry Pearl but have heard mixed reviews.

Yeah it does suck as I've wanted an Iphone badly since they came out.

And I too wanted an iPhone but I hear there are some things about it (like the inability to cut & paste) that would drive me nuts.

So, I'd love to find out how the Storm stacks up against the iPhone....

As long as they are $149 or less, I will sign with Verizon, ditch tmobile and have a new storm to play with! :D

Yeah, Vodafone are giving it away free on a £35/month contract... for 2 years, or a minimum of £40/month over 18 months.... so that's a minimum commitment of.... £840 over 2 years or £760 over 18 months. And that gives you 600 minutes and unlimited texts.

Both very good reviews....I'm not a crackberry addict, kinda a casual user so it's still somewhat appealing to me. I'll have to check it out in the store. We've got to go and upgrade mrsreindeer today anyway.

Hey barbourjay - If I do end up pickin' up a Storm through you, can I transfer all my data I currently have on my Treo 700p over?

From reading only my perception is the software is crapola. Add a few patches and things might be substantially better.

Any impressions yet Jeremy?

it's taking them forever to activate my dealer line on it. they said monday because of all the stupid orders waiting in que. we get the shaft and you guys get it done instantly.

Interesting. My friend was in Miami, using his Blackberry Pearl on verizon network and had 4 dropped calls! He switched immediately to AT&T with his new I-Phone and had no further problems.

I am betting that it is that crappy gay pearl and not Verizon... I am not saying it couldn't have happened on Verizon's network... but I am saying that the pearl is the biggest piece of ever loving crap!!! I have one and I get dropped calls constantly in areas with Tmobile that I shouldn't be getting dropped...

Yep.

Well....we went to our local store yesterday and they didn't have any Storm's. They never got any in the first place supposedly. And I picked up an EnV for mrsreindeer and I'm kicking myself already because I realized after the fact that I could have possibly ordered through you Jay...can we?

For the enV, they charged $169 with a $50 mail-in rebate for signing up for another 2 years...I come home to find a Verizon ad saying that after rebate, the enV is $79. WTF!:fl:mad:

in all fairness VZW ordering said we would have as many as we wanted. then they all the sudden cut our orders in half.

BTW, after playing with this phone it's not worth it. a curve will do the same stuff 100X better. if you still want one i should have more coming in way before the 15th. we had to take care of locals fist though and then i can start sending them out. i can do 50$ off the price generally.

So i've had the phone for about a day now. Its pretty damn cool. Had to cut up some paper to put behind the battery to improve the clicking. The contacts list is pretty plain looking but thats a blackberry thing. Its a fingerprint magnet too, but I put a screen protector on it, but everything else just wipes off with a microfiber cloth. Its also pretty slow and laggy, but that will hopefully be fixed with the updates.

I listed all the bad thing s about it haha but i like it.

I actually returned mine today. The update did help though. It was alot faster and 10 times better then when I bought it. But I had some hardware problems and from what I read online it would take more then 1 return to find one that works perfectly. This was mainly the click screen and not clicking properly the whole way around the screen. I'm eligible for and official upgrade in august and will most likely buy the Storm again. By then all the bugs should be worked out. I really did love the phone and if you get one thats perfect then it would be a great phone.

Me too.
With my Verizon credits, the Storm will run me $50 v. $300 for the iPhone.
iPhone just seems so much nicer but AT&T is my cell company for my business cell phone and they are inferior next to Verizon for service/reception.

No WiFi on the Storm.
No text message with photo on the iPhone but with my MacBook, it only makes sense to get the iPhone.
No speaker on the iPhone but one on the Storm.
For iTunes, the iPhone is better.
For iPhoto, the iPhone also takes the prize.
For gadgets, I think the iPhone is also the winner.
Just sucks that one is stuck with AT&T and the major price difference that can be enough for a nice box of Cuban Churchills.:D

I would get the storm as well... Using it for your mp3 player is easy... when you open the blackberry updates you see a section to sync your BB with itunes and then magically all your music appears on your BB... I just added all my music to the BB and will probably sell my ipod soon as it has become obsolete... :D

Yes but it is a bit slower. I was up in a semi-remote area this weekend and was down to 1 or 2 bars at best... their coverage map shows it covering that area, but my signal was weak at best... I still managed to get internet and was checking the weather for the drive back down the mountains. It was nice to check it, but it was a bit slower.

True, but I bet the iphone is a touch faster as far as menu selection and things like that. My Storm has a slight delay every now and then and it seems to be a bit sluggish. I am sure future patches should fix it or at least help a bit.

As for speed on the internet both phones should be the same. But the edge might go to the storm since the iphone has to deal with ATT being a bad carrier...
