View Full Version : Pre Embargo Cuban?

I'm smoking one right now? One of the local B&Ms has a box full of "Pre Embargo Cubans", there is no band to identify what brand, just one at the foot that said 1959. I figured at $7.50 what the hell it would be cool to say I smoked a 50 year old cigar. . . . What do you think the odds that this is the real deal? I have some serious doubts.

Sounds too good to be true. But how was it, what did you think?

$7.50? None and none.

Are you sure it wasn't the old "cigar that contains pre-embargo tobacco" deal?

They sell Pinar 2000 or 3000s that are "full of pre-embargo tabacco" and go for about $10-15......... im thinking its more like a smidge or a crumb of pre-embargo..

If you had a 51 year old cigar that was authentic full blown pre-embargo would you sell it for $7.50??? Maybe $75 or $750.

If anything, it is a bit and I mean a tiny bit of tobacco dust. But folks fall for it everyday.

Yeah, that's kind of what I figured. It's not bad, pretty straight forward, but I'm in the wrong forum for reviews.

I thought I recalled a brand called "Pre-Embargo". I may be wrong though.

Your Pre-Embargo Cuban = an unbanded name brand 2nd most likely.

You may be right, it did have a band @ the foot that said"1959" which was my first flag.

I vaguely remember a company too. Called, wait for it...Pre-Embargo Cubans!

If you like it, smoke it, dosnt matter what it is or what it isn't but I can almost, without reservation, say it was definitly not a PEC.

I agree, but it wasn't anything to write home about. I didn't expect much but if there was a chance how could I pass it up.

Buyer beware. I've seen these in tourist traps also and some people actually buy them. I've tried telling them they are fakes but few listen.:r

what he said. and further - is the b&m seriously portraying these cigars as the real deal? if so, and i think we can all agree they are not, i'd question whether i'd continue patronizing them. just my two cents.

It's not the usual place I go to, it's a chain place that advertises cheap cigs. They have a pretty nice walk in with very good selection and as always before I buy I check the Hygrometer. The girl working the counter was about 16, so i didn't think she would be a good source of info.

I don't feel scammed, I saw the label and the price and said what the hell. I was kind of hoping for a decent smoke for $7.50. I kind of assumed it was not the real deal.

WOW
A 16yo sellling tabacco that she can't even smoke????
Like a 17yo selling Jack Daniels! I think there is laws against that... owell

I have a PE Camacho 1962.... I didn't drop the $25 they want on CI. But I will try it, doubt its any better than a regular 1962.

A true PreEmbargo Cuban (not a Clear Havana mind you) is very hard to come by...those that have them usually don't want to give them up...and when they do, they are NOT cheap (think over $100 each)...

I just did a review on one from the 1920's here, fwiw:

http://tinyurl.com/288ncfe

If it is a true Cuban rolled with cuban tobacco, they can still be quite good, despite the age...

As for the cigars that have "Pre Embargo Cuban Leaf" in them...I would not believe it, unless I had proof otherwise :)

Hope that helps!

I ran out to my B&M, Are these what you smoked?
They were on the shelf in a black box with no markings.
big enough to hold 100 or more. I'm assuming these are bundle sticks.
Oh and only $6.50 here. Jersey Rocks :banger

Believe it or not Brother, in my opinion, worse. I thought the regular Camacho 1962's were much better than their PE counterpart.

Not gonna get to it today either. I'm really dropping the ball on this but work has been to busy to smoke and concentrate. It's at work and the first one going down, as soon as I can.

The Four Seasons in Phoenix has a desert item, a 1950's partagas pre-embargo, and some high dollar scotch or whiskey (can't remember) for $500. I wouldnt drop the kind of cash on a cigar, but it was interesting.

FWIW, the three on the left are Pre Embargo Cubans. On the right is a "Clear Havanas", rolled in a bonded US factory with Cuban tobacco(1950's)

I still have a handful of the Robert Burns Clear Havanas, for extremely special occasions.

I love how the pre-embargo Cuban cigar makers would go so far as to include the name of the vitola on the band! It shows how much they cared for their product and reputation.

I just finished this bad boy. It wasn't that good.
I found it sweet and musky. Very thin smoke, and burned like notebook paper.
About 6X54 and took less then an hour.
For $6.50 you could do 100 times better. :2

I still have half of cab even after trying to sell them all off at the beginning of the year. Kinda done with my clear havana phase.
