They are very 'valid' and many corporations (which I assume you found from) have Toastmaster's club. I have thought about attended many-a-times, but at the end of the day, I want to go home.

That's pretty much it, it's a public speaking club. Alot of people join to try and overcome their fear of speaking in public, others to hone their presentation and leadership skills, others just to meet new people. It's been around for decades.

I worked with a co-worker who was a member. She worked for a Future 500 company and she said it helped her a lot!

I can highly recommend Toastmaster's! Their purpose is to teach people how to speak in a number of different environments. They also teach you how to provide constructive feedback. At the meetings usuallt you are expected to speak. There will be practiced speeches, and there will be improvisational speeches. After the speeches everyone will then be asked to provide feedback.
Coaching is provided on both the speaking and the providing of feedback.
Definitely a good thing!
