Ok, I get the salt test for a Hygrometer...and I get the cool biz about shilila or other ceramic beads being preset to a given humidity...
So My question is this... If I have a fiven pack of beads set to a specific RH, why can't I use that and a ziploc bag to calibrate my hygrometer? or Can I?
Keep in mind, I identified this as a no0b question...I R No0B.

It should work if the beads are maintaining the advertised humidity.

The salt will be a more reliable indicator. Beads fluctuate a bit--at least mine do.

I'd agree.
I have beads in my totes, but used Salt to verify my Hygro.

Use the salt test to verify/calibrate your hygrometer. Then use the hygrometer to verify your beads :)

:tpd: Can't put it any better than that.

BTW, if you don't want to mess with the salt test Boveda makes a Hygrometer Calibration pack (salt test in a packet) that you can buy.

Here's a link to Famous-Smoke's (http://www.famous-smoke.com/boveda+75+humidity+12+pack/item+30044) 75% testers... if you get to $50 you can use the promo code "ronandfez" for $10 off your purchase as well.

The link to the Calibration packs is here: http://www.famous-smoke.com/boveda+one+step+calibration+pk/item+23350.
The Boveda packs are designed for a specific RH, but can fluctuate a bit. The Calibration kits are not supposed to fluctuate.
It probably does not make a lot of difference, but just wanted to make sure that the information posted here was accurate.
I actually sell the calibration kits for a $1 with the purchase of a hygrometer just to encourage people to get and use the calibration kits.
