I've been working on a batch of four small humis for awhile now. Three are all from conventional cherry, they aren't done yet, but this one is made from old cherry flooring.
It turned out really cool, I just wanted to show you guys before I give it to Scott (sofaman). He doesn't have a travel humi and usually borrows mine. This one will hold a good 30 torps, something like a million robustos, so it'll be good.
I finished it with a satin poly, and it looks great. I finally got my poly thing down, figured out how to get the last coat on so it doesn't look awful, and this is the first subject I've finished that isn't screwed up, sanded a hundred times, and refinished.
I've had that flooring an a milk crate forever. I kept it just to do something like this. I couldn't be more happy with how it turned out.
I purposely didn't cover the inside with cedar so that it'd deliver the feel of "what it is". The bottom has a big thick slab of cedar on it that's super aromatic. It's more than enough.
Guys don't realize that what they get in most humis is cedar veneer and it doesn't give off much of a smell, if at all. A good Spanish Cedar is heavily aromatic and it doesn't take much before it's "too much".

Anyways, here she is...

Wish I could build things.

You could build stuff, Carlos. You have mechanic in you, I've seen your work. :tu
I've always wanted to build birdhouses and sh!t in the shop, just never took the time to learn. I've been learning the last few years. There's SOOOOOOooooo much to learn and so many tools to buy that it's pretty daunting at first. I just build what I can with what I have.
Wait till you see the zebrawood/ebony jewelry drawer thing I built Lisa. It's sick. I'll post pics if I ever find them.
I'm going to build her a shoe whatever they're called as soon as I clear projects off the bench. It's an oak book shelf with compartments for all her shoes. More realistically, for SOME of her shoes. :D

Yup. I thought about handles. Scott wasn't feeling it.
I'm doing a surprise one for one of the brothers here, it's gonna have handles. I like handles. :)
This one is pretty utilitarian. The next one will be more dressy.

Gorgeous work as always, Scott. I really like the character that comes through from the salvaged flooring.

Beautiful work Scott. Everytime I put something together or try to build it, I have extra pieces left over. :r :r

You should see all the pieces left over when I build a humidor. You'd puke. Either that, or you'd feel a lot better about the pieces you have left. :D

Really nice work! I always feel good when I can make something out of leftover stuff. :tu

I've got some leftover flooring, but it's a laminate. One of these days I may have to play around with it and see how badly I can screw it up. :D

Sounds like me, brother. Measure twice, cut six or eight times. :r

Is it just me or when Scott says something like this; I just kind of cringe in fear. Having been on the receiving end of a Scott gift....it hurts so good!:D

Looking good Scotty!:tu

Call you soon Pal.
