I got this cigar in a sampler from Cuban Stock ( http://www.crowndavid.com/), one of the sponsors of my blog (http://www.cigarguide.org). The Chubby ultimate is a Dominican puro with tobacco from Cuban seed. The torpe grande measures 7x60 and has a nice retro band that reminds me of the 1950's.

This cigar is impressive, big, dark, shiny, oily and lots of veins. If this cigar was a man in ancient Rome, it would have been a gladiator with scars from previous battles. The cigar has a strong aroma of moist straw. The top of the torpedo is quite pointy. The predraw is good and I taste a bit of pepper.

I taste leather and earth, which sounds Cubanesque but it tastes a bit different. After half an inch I can also taste some chocolate. An inch later the wrapper tears and I taste herbs with the earth, leather and chocolate.

Halfway the leather and herbs are the strongest flavors with the earthy flavor and the very mild chocolate as support and aftertaste. The flavors change to a dry walnut flavor with herbs, mild chocolate and mild toast. Close to the end the herbal flavors are dominant with walnut as support and aftertaste. The earth and chocolate have disappeared.

The cigar produced a lot of smoke. The draw is fine and the burn is fine too, although I had some problems in the beginning, the burn was a bit crooked then. The smoke has a peppery smell to it, a flavor I won't find in the cigar itself. The light colored ash is frayed but firm. I purged the cigar and got a huge flame. This cigar is full bodied and full flavored. This cigar lasted me 2 full hours.

Would I buy this cigar again? Yes, I will have to find me some more

Great review Ferdie...that is a BEAST of smoke.

Thanks for the review Ferdie..not sure I would enjoy this, not a fan of walnuts.

Funny...it was actually the walnuts that made me think I might like it. That's one of the things I've really come to love about cigars...the fact that they replicate different nuts, herbs, coffee/cocoa beans, etc. I've really noticed that my cigars often replicate the foods I enjoy most.
