Just pre-ordered Day By Day Armageddon. After the brilliant writing of JL Borne on the first book, i highly recommend it for any zombie apocalypse fan.

Some info on the upcoming book:

-It's finished.
-It begins right where the first novel left off.
-It's much longer than the first.
-It took a lot of time and research.
-Remnants of the U.S. military apparatus remain.
-There is advanced military technology to include UCAVs.
-There are more weapons.
-There are more characters.
-The probable nature/source of the anomaly may be revealed.
-There is much death and destruction.
-There are billions of undead walking worldwide.
-Many creatures have absorbed millions of mrems of radiation when nuclear weapons airburst detonated over major population centers. The creatures have been reported to have interesting side effects attributed to the unusually high doses of radiation.

Bit of background on the Author:

J.L. Bourne is an active duty military officer and currently resides in the Washington D.C. area. He has completed numerous tours of duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, logging more than sixty combat missions over Iraq, earning three Air Medal Strike/Flight awards. Despite the ongoing war efforts, he somehow finds the time to put pen to paper in order to bring to you the fall of humanity in the Day by Day Armageddon universe.

Oh man, I read the first one when it was just postings on a website. It's been well over five years I've been waiting (and many others) for the sequel. Hmmm, may have to preorder, though I really didn't believe it was going to finally come.

yeah, the first chapters were absolutely fantastic... read it a bunch of times on the site then bought the book, then bought the electronic book, then got the audiobook... yeah, i do like it ;)

After reading the first one last summer, I cannot WAIT for this! I haven't preordered it yet, plan on it before it ships.

Andy, do you know if this one is written blog-style? Or is it more like a normal novel?

I find it funny that there can be a "Zombie Armageddon" fan group... This thing is bigger than I thought...Do they have a special section in Barnes and Noble? Is it next to the "Syrupy Teen Vampire Romance" section? ;)

JK, Andy, I would read it for sure, sounds like a great summer on the deck with a cigar read.

OK, I gotta ask.. What is the facination with the unreal Zombies taking over the world? There is a local chick on the radio and that's all she talks about.

And the fact that they're the one "unbeatable" ghoul. Every other has such an easy weakness. Ware wolves have silver bullets, vampires have stake to the heart and steal all their right socks... they hate chaos, apparently.

Zombies are the one that there is no easy way to defeat them. Each and every human that they kill, our side gets weaker and their side gets stronger. It's the battle of mankind where we really have to watch our back constantly.

Shooting them in the head is pretty easy. And fun for the whole family.
Plus you get to say "Headshot" like in Unreal Tournament.
They're really stupid, too. All a guy has to do is build a corral and lure them into the wood chipper gate.
Ya just gotta think outside the box a bit. You don't go hand to hand with braineaters, that's like trying to stick a wet noodle up a wildcat's ass. It's just gonna get you hurt and annoy the wildcat.

as an individual they're stupid but as a whole they act like a hive mind. Driven by the scent of blood. Headshots are all find and dandy but what about the first shot that skirts around the edge of the skull and misses the brain? I understand that this is America but what happens when you're out of ammo? What next? Hand to hand combat may come as a final option but it would be necessary.

I've really thought too much about this. :\

You're getting them confused with the Borg. Zombies are about as smart as cats.
You gotta lose this singular mentality. There's gonna be lots. Think giant flaming fireballs and large explosives and Oprah Winfrey. I'm old and I'll tire out fast, so I'm definately gonna have to rely on heros with handguns to thin the herd and get ate. Lob a grenade in there while they're eating a brain and you're gonna get 40 or 50 at a time. That's good numbers.
That's where Tim Tebow comes in. He might not last long, but he's gonna look real good. Plus he's fast. That'll buy time. And style points. :tu

Just pre-ordered Day By Day Armageddon. After the brilliant writing of JL Borne on the first book, i highly recommend it for any zombie apocalypse fan.

i read most of the first one when he had it up online (4, 5 years ago?) before he took it down to publish. i wouldn't go so far as to say he's a brilliant writer, by any means. it was a fun read, and i'm a huge zombie nut, but i wasn't tempted to purchase.

much better read, i'd say, is max brooks' world war Z - really well done, thought out and hopefully coming to a theater near us, at some point (brad pitt's production company bought the rights, but it's kinda floundering). also, there's an ongoing comic/graphc novel called the walking dead - also well done. and will be a six part mini-series on AMC this fall.

don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to deter anyone from buying the day by day book, i just wasn't totally enamored with it.

and wtf? tebow with the 25th pick? does mcdaniels just do stuff for shock value?

Just finished the Zombie Survival Guide, also by Max Brooks. Good stuff, and I feel more prepared for when the walking dead inhabit the earth feeding on the flesh of the living.

I got the Zombie Survival Guide, too. I seem to remember leafing through that one at a bookstore long ago, thinking I might enjoy it. Bought something else. There's a newish book called Zombies Forever, and it looks like its going to be fun. It's supposed to be funny. :tu

I read Beyond Exile in two sittings.
It was okay. It got way too military-speak for my liking. It was short on zombie attack and long on filler. I'm sure I'll read the next entry in the series, but I'm not real excited about it.
It just never advanced the story to any length. The love story didn't develop, the Iraqi buddy didn't develop, and the bunker story barely developed. It was a lot like watching an hour long part of a twelve part season on HBO.

Been a while since i've posted. Might as well make my glorious return by posting here.

While I think that Beyond Exile was a fantastic read it did lean a little bit towards this guy being the saviour of the world.

I did enjoy the part of the book where he became alone again, until he started getting his special gifts... wasn't able to wrap my head around that part completely but meh... it might make sense in the next book.

All in all, a great book but I do agree with shilala on this: short on zombie attack and long on filler.

two zombie thumbs up from me for any zombie apocalypse fan.

I think Bourne could have really ran with the Zombie Hoarde thing. Stuff they did, how they evolved, got smarter, and how they were gonna outsmart the giant masses of Zombies.
The Iraqi guy could really pan out with his special skillz. His chick could get bitten, hide it, and try to eat him while they were sexing it up, and he'd be torn because he had to shoot her face off.
This second book really leaves a lot of potential for a third book to be insanely good. Hell,me and you could write it. :D
