In your opinion, what movie channel has the best lineup at this moment?

HBO in my opinion has been dominant for years, but Showtime is the clear winner right now with DEXTER, US of TARA, THE TUDORS, and NURSE JACKIE.

Starz has Spartacus: Blood and Sand
HBO was dominant with The Sopranos, Curb your Enthusiasm, and (as much as I hate it) Sex and the City.

Remember, the poll is right now, not best of all time. Current lineup only.

Not a premium per se, but FX has Sons od Anarchy, Rescue Me and Justified, among others. :)

I don't really understand how people can vote for today's HBO over Showtime. Don't get me wrong, True Blood is a good show; but I just think that Showtime has many more *quality* serial programs compared to HBO. That said, HBO probably has a better movie selection. Then again, it's also a lot more expensive in my market.

HBO and Showtime are the same price in my area, Dokk.

Here we get Showtime with Starz and The Movie Channel for $15. HBO *alone* is $16.

Showtime has some great entertainment, but I had to go with HBO. It seems to me they have a better selection of movies, and IMHO their "shows" are better, with The Pacific, Treme, Entourage and True Blood current or awaiting the next season. On Showtime the only show I really enjoy is Kalifornication. I caught a few episodes of Nurse Jackie and thought it was good, not great. I don't care for Dexter and I've never seen US of Tara or The Tudors.

If this is a question for which to get, call the provider and see if they have a promotion available. Comcast always has some sort of premium channel package offering for me.

:tpd: Between the cost of the packages and the box requirement.... I'm a FX and TNT junkie. I don't watch too many serial shows to even make a bump in the market (2.5 men, House, Burn Notice, and teh Law and Order stuff). Most of the other stuff just isn't funny or appeals to me. If there was a true movie channel that had a VERY good monthly rotation I would be interested, but I don't know of any. Don't show me the same 5 movies each shown 10 times each in a month.

I already have both HBO and Showtime. Just wondering about what the Asylum thought.

DITT-freakin-O. Too much TV makes you retarded. I have MAYBE three hours
of TV time on weeknights, and that includes the Newshour nightly. That leaves
two measly hours to watch TV. Outside of that I am at work or asleep. Who
has time for TV, and if you do, how do you make time? Sleep is the most
important factor in a healty existence.
Too bad I don't do the rest, like excercise and eat right. :)

I would say Showtime for their series, but I still watch a fair amount of movies on HBO.

At this point it's a tossup between HBO and Showtime. For Showtime, Weeds used to be pretty good, but gone way downhill. Californication is funny as heck. Tudors is good, but not as good as the first two seasons. Secret Diary, I find strangely interesting for some reason. Dexter is pretty good, but I'm not watching current seasons, getting it on DVD from netflix. From HBO, True Blood is entertaining, as is Hung. not watched Treme. Entourage has always been mindless, but interesting. Not watched the Pacific, but thoroughly enjoyed The Sopranos and Rome. Big Love started off quite good and seems to have gone completely off the rails. Six Feet Under was OMFG incredible.

Definitely some excellent fare coming out from both channels. Starz is just starting to get into that game with Spartacus, watched one episode, lots of T&A and LOTS of blood & gore. Was pretty good. I'll probably go back and catch up once it's on netflix, but I'm not going to pay the extra $5 raplevision charges for on-demand from each premium channel.

Think there's enough good stuff from both the big two to justify the cost for me. FX is better than both together at this point though. :2

Besides NHL hockey, I might watch 3 hours a week, just TiVoing the shows I am currently following.

Does that make me less retarded than you, Brad? :) :r
