I work in the corporate headquarters of a Fortune 500 company. We own a good-sized 5 story building in the Minneapolis suburbs. Today our building was on "limited lock down." Evidently an employee had been let go, and threatened violence. He had also struck someone, drawing blood, when he was escorted from the building. The two main hallways on the first floor are roughly "T" shaped, with the main doorway at the base of the "T", and two smaller key-card activated doorways at each end of the top of the "T". The company security locked the two smaller doors and inactivated the key-card readers, and had a guard at the main door verifying people before they could enter.

I suppose, sadly, this is the world we live in these days, but it seemed odd that there was evidently enough risk to take these measures. Thankfully nothing happened, and the company will be taking more permanent measures in the future to improve access to the building.

Glad to hear things worked out for the day, it shows how desprate and confused some people can become due to stress

Wow, that is crazy. Better safe than sorry. For the cost of security for a couple of days is nothing compared to the cost of harm a person like that could do. You’re lucky that your employer is serious about workplace safety.

Are you able to carry a firearm at work? If so, you might want to do so.

I'm glad everything turned out fine.

we have a similar situation at my work. we have an employee with mental problems on admin leave but was sneaking back in during their 30 day leave. For 1 week nobody could use their access cards and had to be let in by someone personally. now we can only access the main door and not the other 2 doors. The person hasnt commited violence but their work notes exhibited deranged thoughts. Kinda scary considering all the work place shootings etc in the past 20 years.

I doubt any employer is going to allow guns into work.

Probably not, but it can be kept in your car. Didn't that exact scenario happen and someone stopped a college campus shooting spree by going to their car and getting a gun and holding the shooter at gunpoint until the police came?

(btw, glad to hear all is well at your place of work!)

Keep your guard up. Three or six months from now (after the company lets its guard down)when the dude's unemployment checks cease, he may be back.

A member on a gun board that I am on (AR15.com) had a madwoman come into his work and shoot a guy in the chest with a bow and arrow. He went out to the parking lot, got his gun, and ended the confrontation. The BG (bad girl) survived but is now charged with murder IIRC.

If that happened in MA, that guy would've been at fault. Unless the gun is pointed at you, you can't "end the confrontation".

There's a case of a guy who had a carry license and went into a conveinence store and someone was robbing it. He shot and killed and the bad guy and is now at fault. Granted most of the nation does not have stupid laws like the Commonwealth.

My employer prefers not for me too carry, so I don't...but, this is Nevada, it is legal too walk around with a gun out in the open....only the casinos really don't like seeing that....

After this knucklehead hit the person you mentioned and drew blood did anyone call the police and report this incident? If not, this should be done ASAP! I'm glad no one was hurt seriously. Keep your guard up!

I guess I don't know for certain, but I can't imagine that a police report has not been filed. Both battery and making terroristic threats are pretty serious.

[QUOTE=Eleven;807695]Probably not, but it can be kept in your car.

BEWARE: Many if not most companies have a policy against possessing a weapon on company property (with or without a CHL) and the parking lots are frequently company property thus a weapon in your vehicle can be a serious issue. Don't at all agree but that is the way it is.:td
