This past weekend I went to a "Test Batch Bourbon Release Party" at Great Lakes Distillery in Milwaukee. GLD is a small batch distillery and had bourbon ready for release that has been aging since Oct. 2007 that was ready for bottling and sales. The test batch bottles are 375 ml. sized and the bourbon itself is friggin amazing!! I was the first in line because I wanted to make sure I was able to get my 2 bottles. GLD will not have bourbon for sale again until 2013 at the earliest.

Here's my dilemma...crack the seal and drink or save. Right now, I'm weary of opening either of my bottles. The bourbon is absolutely amazing and is 90 proof. I just can't seem to get myself to crack it open. There were only 263 bottles hand signed and numbered.

So, keep it sealed for a special event or open it?

Open and drink. The bourbon itself can make the occassion special.

I stopped saving cigars for "special occassions" long ago. Anytime I can get together with a friend, or have an hour to myself with no distractions, is special enough. And what if I get hit by a bus on Friday? Then I saved all those special things for nuttin'. :2

You have two bottles. Open one now and put the other away for later.

I imagine that since they released it, they're saying it is ready for consumption.

Down the hatch!
Save the second for The Shack Herf. :tu

Drink it, but don't be cavalier.

Use it as a first drink and then move on to more pedestrian stuff so you don't blow through it.

Drink them now. Don't just guzzle them down, but enjoy them while you can. If you save things for something special, you miss out on a lot of stuff.

Here is what you do:

Open first bottle. Consume exactly 31.25ml per month.
Next year this time open bottle number 2 - Consume exactly 31.25ml per month.
The following year - stand in line and repeat.
