Does anyone know of a cigar that has a Connecticut shade wrapper, like on a RP Connecticut, and Nicaraguan fillers (ligero possibly). I tend to enjoy Nicaraguan tobacco, but was wondering what it would taste like with a nice smooth and creamy wrapper. I tried a search and came up with Pepin's Tobacco Baez -does that fit the bill?

Had my first 601 Black the other day and was impressed. Definitely a must try plus the 601 lines are consistent.

Everybody has already said it, but hell why not say it again. The 601 Black, its a good smoke, my wife's favorite cigar. One that was not mentioned is the Nub Connecticut.

That 601 Black is a solid smoke. Have not had one in a while, but the few torpedos I have had were really enjoyable.

The Oliva G is a Cameroon wrapper and im pretty sure DT uses Nicaraguan and Honduran tobaccos.

I second the Oliva Connecticut and the Cabaiguan both tasty smokes.

Actually, the Oliva Serie G Maduro is a connecticut wrapper. Sorry, forgot to put the Maduro part of it. Also, DT uses connecticut wrappers and nicaraguan fillers but they use some Honduras filler. My mistake on the DT, however the Oliva G Maduro uses a Connecticut broadleaf wrapper. If your following Puff.com as your main source of information, I would switch to something more accurate. There are plenty of things on that website that are completely wrong.

The DPG Cuban Classic is a lot like the 601 Black, but it's a corojo wrapper with Nic binder and filler. It's a Nic puro.
Why I don't like either cigar is a mystery to me, and I've really tried to give them a good shot. I should be all over both of them. Just don't like the black pepper. Wish I did. Both are gorgeous, and they smell incredible.

Shilala, try a DPG Black with about 2+ years on it. Most of the initial pepper blast is gone, leaving just the creamy goodness.:)
I find them much more enjoyable at this stage.

In a month or two the new Man 'O War virtue will be available at some of the larger sights. You might want to give those a try.

It may be a Connecticut Maduro wrapper, but he said a Connecticut shade wrapper like "RP Connecticut" meaning a light color Connecticut shade wrapper not a maduro.

Most Nicaraguan tobacco in my opinion is strong and spicy..... Tabacos Baez are smooth, creamy, and toasty with little to no spice... .Not exactly the same.
That said they are wonderful sticks! U should buy a box!

These are both probably pipe-dreams at this point but the original Cuban Diplomat (Cigar King/Phatash) and the Rey Miguel (Black Cat Cigars) used Ecuadorian CT wrappers and Nicaraguan binder and filler. Both were Pepin creations but, unfortunately, neither are made any more.

The Rey Miguel is one blend that I am truly sorry I missed out on.

Tabacalara Tropical used to have the Condega Connecticuts. I still have about 5 boxes. I had one this AM. Poor man's "Cabaiguan", in fact I like it better than he Cabaiguan - but not by much. 601 black is pretty much the standard for the breed we are discussing IMO.
