Just curious, what do you guys consider ROTT? the second it gets to your house pull one out of the box and light up that day? Or let it acclimate for a couple of weeks and then sample? Since ive come to let most of my boxes sit a while my first tasting isnt until it atleast settles in my humid a week or 2.

Less than a month off the truck = ROTT to me.

I try to let new stuff rest for at least a few weeks, preferably a month or more. It's getting easier as I build up my collection. It's tough when I get a 5er of some new stick (to me) with a lot of buzz, but lately my routine is to check them for damage, label them with a date, and bury them in the cooler.

ROTT = 1 or 2 days after you recieve it.
That is what it means to me.

Within several days of receipt.
The day you get it would be ROTT for me. I used to smoke them that way when I first started even with fivers. Now I sometimes smoke one it it's a box pretty soon, but I put all the others in the vino for at least three weeks and usually a month.

ROTT = less than 10 days for me. However, I will usually wait at least a month before dipping in.

ROTT is a week within receiving them. I usually try to exercise some discipline in digging in to new sticks for about a month after getting them though (doesn't always work).

:tpd: I usually try and let smokes sit a minimum of two to three weeks but sometimes that's easier said than done. Especially if it's something I have really been itching or searching for than I'm lucky to give them 2-3 days.

This is what ROTT means to me too. I understand the logic of letting cigars aclimate for several weeks, and I usually do it as well, as it is wise...it just ain't "ROTT", ;)

Same here. Sometimes ROTT is as soon as I open the box, but usually a day or two.

I make the UPS guy wait in the driveway while I try a sample. I look at it like buying a bottle of wine in a restaraunt.... If I don't like the first little sip, I send em back for a different vintage. :r

I find it hard to let them sit around in my humidor, but the more I buy, the easier it has become. I have a box of Man O' War and CAO La Traviata's I still haven't gotten into. The cold weather doesn't help either.

I'll try one within the first day or two to get a feel for whether they're ready to smoke or need a rest. A cigar being good ROTT for me, means they are ready to smoke within the first few days flavorwise, and no later than the first week if it seems like a vendor humidity problem. Otherwise, I put them in the "needs some rest" category.

To me, ROTT is while I'm watching the big brown vehicle drive down my street. :r I've been guilty of this far too many times. :ss

At least you're not chasing the truck down the street! I about did that last week when he pulled up to my neighbors and then left, knowing I had a box of cigars on board.

Sorry i havent participated i was at work.. ROTT is "right off the truck" I guess i have to agree with most.. i feel right off the truck is the day the package comes in but i feel most smokes arent given a fair chance until after theyve had time to acclimate.
