This past weekend, I had the honor of hosting the Florida High School Activites Association Girls(yes Girls) State Weightlifting Meet. This is the 4th year in a row we have hosted it at my school. Folks if you have lifted weights before and want to compare yourself to some High School girls here are some numbers for you:

My lifters placed 2nd in the 11olb weight class and 4th in the 199lb weight class.

How tall is the 287 lb girl?no matter how tall, that simply is not healthy for a HS girl.

I don't think I can even lift the 100.1 pound girl. She'd be handy to have around though, provided she can pull a plow in a straight line. :tu

Unless she's a female bodybuilder, and I've never seen a 270+ lbs female bodybuilder, it's never healthy to be that weight as a female.
Even for guys that's too much weight unless you're like 6'7"+ and it's muscle

Not to discredit her lifts, those are impressive, but she's going to have serious long term health issues.

Just my :2 , though my wife says I'm too harsh on people's weight

Guys didn't mean to start a health debate. Due to child privacy I cannot post pictures. But a few things.
1. Yes she is overweight(as probably most of us on CA)
2. I do not want to debate genetics and socioeconomic background of some of these heavier girls.
3. At least they are trying to do something healty.
4. Like the cigars we smoke and the drinks we have with them are good for us.( I said we so I am including me)
5. The heavier girl is an athlete on her schools basketball team( starting foward 5'11).
6. The point I was trying to make. With out testosterone in her body a 275lb bench is incredible she tried 290 and missed it. At my high school there is 6 boys that can bench over 275. The rookie linebacker from USC only benched 225 6x's last yr. And I would be willing to say 50% of the men in America cannot bench 275 and clean and jerk 235. And then the lighter girls doing a 1 and 1/2 times body weight in c&j is incredible.

The bashing these girls just took is part of the reason a lot of kids don't get involved. Encouragement gets a lot better results with kids then constantly harping on their negatives.

I wouldn't call what I have read "bashing", sounds like a genuine concern for young peoples' health to me. :2

Ok. Maybe bash was wrong choice. I'm Sorry. Just knowing how hard it is to get these girls to wear a singlet and go out infront of their peers and family( I had no heavyweight lifter at my school this year) I just took it as bashing. Most of them their self esteem is already shot and this is a great chance for them to make life changes.

If these girls have found something that they have passion for then that is great. :tu

Thanks Tom.

I wasn't bashing anyone's weight, I was concerned for their long term health.
The added stress of weight through youth and growth is known to have a detrimental effect on joint longevity, development of diabetes, and a host of other health issues.
Then again....power lifting or heavy weight training is rough on the joints as well ;)_
