After much deliberation...I had to start this thread. Any other Mets fan out there? No comments from you Evil Empire folks (especially you Ryan :D).

The last few years have been rough for us. You gotta believe this year is gonna turn out better...but with no major off-season pitching acquisitions...we'll see. Santana cannot do it by himself. Time for Perez to start paying dividends on that $ 36 million contract...seeing that he has two years left.

Go Mets!!

Right on, Keith. Hey, Mac knows we love him . . . that's why we pick!

To be serious, I think that if Reyes, Wright, and Bey can produce the way they are capable of doing, and Beltran comes back quickly and positively too, the Metropolitans should have enough offense to compete at the plate. But whereas most teams worry about a reliable 4th or 5th starter, Mac's team has to worry about everyone but Santana . . . and with his injury last season, he's not a given either.

Sorry, my friend, but that's just the way I sees it. But still, :gl

Mets drop one to the Astros today 8-4. On a not to great note here is Santanas pitchuing line... 1.2 innings, 6 hits, 4 earned runs. On a positive note, David Wright his his second dinger of the spring. Here's to hoping he has that power back this year in spacious Citifield.

While I agree that Tejada is probably a year away...and I am a HUGE Reyes fan...he does seem injury prone the past few years. When he is good...he is good, but he still takes bad at bats to the field with him. Maybe sign a veteran SS to cover the year, but I don't agree with GIVING Reyes away. Mac.....CBS Sportsline prediction:

NL East

1. Phillies: Moving from the AL East to the NL for Doc Halladay would be like you or me moving from a job at the assembly line to lying on the beaches of Margaritaville all day. Halladay and Cole Hamels should spend much of this summer turning out the lights on opponents. And Jimmy Rollins, Chase Utley and Ryan Howard will be lighting those opponents back up. Placido Polanco might be the most underrated offensive acquisition of the year.

2. Braves: If Jason Heyward isn't the next Dave Parker, my name's not Danny Knobler. Or whatever. Meantime, please bring a rocking chair to the ballpark with you to present to retiring Braves manager Bobby Cox.

3. Marlins: Ricky Nolasco had such a good spring he became a trendy pick for NL Cy Young. Anybody for Hanley Ramirez for NL MVP this summer? And if Cameron plays more like Maybin than Diaz in center field, the Marlins will be there through September.

4. Mets: Dr. David Altchek, Mets medical director. Dr. Struan Coleman, team physician. Dr. Andrew Pearle, associate team physician. And Dr. Seth Miller, orthopedist. Because if you're gonna watch the Mets, you had better know the names of their doctors.

5. Nationals: What date you got in the "When will Stephen Strasburg be promoted to the majors" pool? I'm going with Saturday, May 29, in San Diego.

JP Ricciardi? Really? I think he did a terrible job in Toronto. He banged out one decent season winning season where they finished second, with a much expanded payroll than any of his predecessors. And this is the same guy who ripped on his fans for not wanting Adam Dunn, cause Dunn wasn't a gamer, and later totally mishandled Doc last year. He made a few decent free agent signings, but overall he was a flop in Toronto.

Mets should try to snare John Hart. Everywhere he goes he helps build a winning foundation.

New York Mets prospect Angel Calero and free agent Socrates Brito have each been suspended 50 games for testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug under the minor league program.

Calero, a pitcher for Class A St. Lucie of the Florida State League, tested positive for metabolites of Nandrolone.

Brito, who tested positive for metabolites of Stanozolol, will begin serving his suspension immediately upon signing with a major league organization.

There have been 18 suspensions this year under the minor league drug program.
